Trail Report: Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – December 19, 2016

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10 inches–give or take

Date of Report: December 19, 2016

Area Report:

The groomers have been out and the cold temps have frozen everything up pretty well. The weather says a little warmer temps (20’s) this week and chance of snow. The lakes are not marked so smart people will stay off of them even though you will see some tracks going across them. Better safe than sorry. The Kiwi adventure team took their first ride of the season Saturday and they all returned in one piece and reported fair to excellent trails along their route.

Date of Report: December 19, 2016

Area Report:

Three lakes trails will be opening their Oneida county portion of trails Tuesday December 20th at noon. Trails will be early season conditions with some not groomed yet due to wet swamps.  Lakes are not safe yet therefore will not be marked. Once we have a date and time for Forest County trails we will announce that.

Snowmobile Information:

The Three Lakes – Brule River Trails are the destination that is sure to satisfy the most discerning snowmobiler. Our trail system encompasses 132 miles of state funded trails, plus 54 additional miles of locally funded trails.

The trail system traverses the most scenic country that Wisconsin has to offer. The Kimball Trail (upper and lower) will take you through the pristine Nicolet National Forest and provides your connection to Vilas and Forest County destinations. Our southern trails will lead you to the Rhinelander, Monico and Pelican Lake areas. Trails to the West and North will give you access to our neighbors in Sugar Camp, St. Germain and Eagle River.

Every day is sure to bring you a new and different snowmobiling experience!
Don’t forget to include downtown Three Lakes on your trail riding agenda. Our trail system will give you easy access to the many amenities that our downtown area has to offer. Once there, you’ll experience the old-fashioned charm of the Northwoods. Our main street is lit by antique lampposts and lined with very unique gift shops, restaurants, taverns and other small businesses.
The community’s greatest natural resource is the largest Chain of Lakes in the world, 28 interconnected lakes stretching northward to Eagle River, Wisconsin. Stay on the marked trails and you will be rewarded by the scenic beauty of the Three Lakes Chain.
Then, venture to the Northeast and discover the remote beauty of the Brule River Trails. Be sure to stop and sample the warmth and hospitality to be found at the local taverns and eating establishments.

Our trail system is professionally maintained and groomed by Three Lakes – Brule River Trails, primarily a volunteer organization. Grooming and trail maintenance is performed utilizing 2012 and 2010 New Holland Tracked Tractors, a 2004 Tucker Snowcat, a 2006 Fendt Tractor and a 2011 Polaris Tracked Ranger Utility Vehicle for light grooming and maintenance.
The Northern Lights Snowmobile Club provides extensive support to the Three Lakes snowmobiling experience. Throughout the season, club events include dinners, fundraisers, poker rides and several weekly rides. Those interested in joining our club may send a nominal fee (single – $20, family – $25, business – $25) along with your name and address to:

Trail Report: Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 18, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2-3 feet

Date of Report: December 18, 2016

Area Report:

The snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes up to Copper Harbor are open and being groomed.  The bridge is now down and sleds are able to cross.  Do not cross on the water!  It may look ice and snow covered, but the Coast Guard cutter went through only a few days ago.  The trails are in early season condition, so please ride with care, some areas will be wet and rocks and stumps may not be covered well.  Trail 122 is closed for logging, use Trail 124 to get to Gay.   Temps have been cold the last few days and there has been plenty of lake effect snow over the past week.  Beginning tomorrow, temps will rise into mid twenties and low thirties through the whole week, with only a few inches of snow expected.  This weather will be good to pack down the fluffy lake effect snow that has been pounding our area.  It will provide a good, hard base on the trails for the upcoming snows!  The trails are looking to be busy over the holidays.  Please remember when you are riding to respect private property, respect others on the trails, slow down and enjoy the beautiful sites, speed kills, don’t drink and ride-save it for the end of the night, and stay off all water–none is safe!  The Keweenaw is a beautiful area full of great trails for you and your friends and family to enjoy, come up , ride, and stop at the local businesses to eat, gas up and shop!  Happy Trails from the Trail Goddess!

Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – December 18, 2016

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5-8

Date of Report: December 18, 2016

Area Report:

Townsend – Well your Snow Dances worked, We received about 8?-10? of snow from the big storm depending which area you were in because it varied yesterday throughout the system I noticed while grooming. Enough of the small talk, because this is what you want to hear.
THE TRAILS OPEN TODAY! Be careful as I said Friday, this is early season riding, it is far from perfect but it is riding. Be careful for an occasional rock and some ruts. They filled in pretty well while grooming but be on guard. The east side of Townsend trails are nicer right now mainly because of the lack of big rocks. The west side is decent but be alert for rocks and ruts. Things looked very beautiful with the new fallen snow on things yesterday while grooming. It got cold last night so hopefully the base on the trails should have frozen good and hard for riding today.
Lakewood – The trails were groomed on Saturday and will open for the 2016-2017 season at 8 am Sunday December 18th. The trails are in very early season condition. Watch for ruts and rocks until we get more snow to work with. Ride safe !!!
Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open. Trails are in “very early season” condition, with some exposed rocks and some thin and wet low spots that have not frozen up yet. Most trails are panned- the main exception being the pipeline trail. Areas we recommend you avoid until they freeze up: pipeline trail, trail from Junction to pipeline, 18 Corridor from Neligan Rd to Crooked Lake, trail from Old 64 north to Bowman air strip, north of Hwy W near the old Pine Grove. These areas have substantial wet & muddy areas which could cause issues for you and your sled. Please use extra caution and courtesy as you enjoy our early season trails.

Oconto Falls – Please read entire post!!!! As of 1 pm today, Oconto Falls trails will be open with the exception of the trail from Hazelnut lane to the river. We strongly advise against any river travel until ice conditions are safer. Also, we have not groomed yet so be aware of dangers that may be hidden under the snow. We hope to groom this coming week but as of now, there are swamps not frozen enough to support the groomer. Please tread lightly and stay on the trail.

Lena – The Lena Snow drifters trail system is open! Only exception is where the trail crosses county J and Logtown road due to standing corn. Groomers are out but expect early season trail conditions. Wet areas and thin snow on plowed fields.

Trail Report: Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – December 17, 2016

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 3-5 inches

Date of Report: December 17, 2016

Area Report:

All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are closed at this time. Lower temperatures have arrived and have been a big help with freezing the lakes and swamps. We are forecasted to receive 5-7 inches of snow in the next 24 hours. If that happens, the clubs will work to get out on the trails to groom and check them over the weekend. We do not anticipate an opening until early next week and that is very dependent on if everything has frozen and the amount of snow we receive. Keep checking back for updates and think snow!
