Trail Report: Crivitz, Wisconsin – January 3, 2017

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 6 to 9 inches

Date of Report: January 3, 2017

Area Report:

We received about three inches of good, wet, packy snow last night.  That does not sound like much, but all these little bits are definitely helping out.  The base is flat and frozen.  All three groomers are going out tomorrow morning to pack the trail.  You will be updated after I hear back from them.

This has been a very busy summer and fall, working on permits to improve our trail system.  The Twin Bridge Park area has some huge changes thanks to the Marinette County Parks Department and Wisconsin DNR.  We have been able to take care of a culvert extension along Parkway Road north of County X.  We also, just finished the largest problem area in the park.  The swamp hole coming off the bridge has been rerouted slightly for a much safer trail.  We put in a culvert there allowing our groomers to get through, even early in the season!  Also, north of Twin Bridge Campground, were we had a wetland issue,  thanks to the new landowner, we were able to reroute with few problems to improve that area.  Landowners are such a big part of our trail system.  When you see them, thank them, wave and give them thumbs up!  Remember, use of their property is a privilege, not a right!

The Oconto county area of the trail has had our loyal excavator very busy.  He has bulldozed from Holtz Ranch Road north and over to LaFave Road, then…from Chickadee Road west to Boat Landing 11 Road.  He was even out there on a Sunday, trying to stay ahead of the cold weather.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH…

In addition to the new John Deere tractor that we purchased last year, we have now purchased another New Holland tractor for even better trail grooming.

If you do venture out on the trails…please be careful.  There is a swamp hole north of Bucks Ranch Road on the pipeline.  Snowmobiles can make it through.  There is caution tape there.   Please be aware.    OUR WATERWAYS ARE NOT SAFE.  Stay on marked trails.  We need snow and colder temps.

Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 3, 2017

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 3-4

Date of Report: January 3, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club – We picked up about 1 1/2″ of snow last night, it will add some lubrication and an added cushion to your ride today. I rode 107 miles yesterday and had a real nice time with some of our members. I would rate our trails as FAIR to GOOD! Most areas are pretty darn nice. Some are mid season form. Be alert for icy corners today, with the fresh snow over the ice of earlier this week.

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – The Lakewood area received about a inch and a half of fluffy snow. It will provide much needed lubrication for the slides. Watch for icey corners and rocks and ruts. We rate the trails as fair to good.

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails – The trails are open but the rain and 45 degree temps hurt the trails. There is water in low areas that needs to freeze up again. No groomers will go out until we receive 3 or more inches of new snow.   Remain off the lakes due to unsafe conditions.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – No update since last report.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open and in “early season” condition, with possible icy areas, occasional exposed rocks, and some thin or rutted areas. There are some wet low spots that have not frozen up yet- or that have frozen up and have not been groomed smooth yet.

We got 2″ of packy snow last night, and it’s just what we needed to make our trails rideable again. Most of our trails have a solid ice base with 2-4″ of snow cover on top of that base. We are grooming when possible. After this week’s deep freeze we should be able to groom all low and swampy areas.

Areas we recommend you avoid or use extreme caution in until they freeze up completely and can be groomed properly: pipeline trail- rough with broken water holes, trail from Junction to pipeline- rough with broken water holes, Twin Pine road trail- rutted from vehicle tracks, 18 Corridor from Neligan Rd to Crooked Lake- rough swampy area. These areas have substantial wet & muddy areas which may or may not have frozen yet- either way they could possibly cause issues for you and your sled.

Our trails are ride-able, but they are still in early season condition- please use extra caution, especially in the areas listed above.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails –  Trails are CLOSED.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are CLOSED.
Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report: Superior – Douglas County, Wisconsin – January 3, 2017

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 3″ – 6″ in various places

Date of Report: January 3, 2017

Area Report:

As is typical for this time of year, certain trail segments can be opened and others are not ready yet due to wetland crossings and/or have restrictions due to private land easements.  It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to use their property. Please review the information below carefully before trail riding and confirm that you are using open trails.

Please note that on certain trails only segments of that trail may be open at this time. We anticipate frequent updates as the clubs report in with trails they have checked. In all areas where the winter recreational trails are closed the clubs are actively working on the getting the trails open.

Trail Report: Mercer, Wisconsin – January 2, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 5

Date of Report: January 2, 2017

Area Report:

Trails overall are in fair condition, 8 inches of wet snow we jump up to excellent. not quite that easy, some of the swamps are sill too wet to groom, but sleds can get through . TRAIL 12 west of Lake of The Falls heading to swamp creek rd. should be avoided unless you know what you are doing [WET]. The forecast looks to be cold the next couple of weeks, throw in some snow and we be looking good. the flowage is all marked from Murrays landing to Gateway Lodge & Resort. Stay by the markers & you will be fine, just remember the flowage goes down about 5/8 ” plus a day in the winter so down the rd. we will have some ice heaves and stumps to watch for. BE SAFE
