Trail Report: Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – January 9, 2017

Trail Conditions: Unknown

Snow Cover: 4-6″

Date of Report: January 9, 2017

Area Report:

All Washburn County snowmobile trails remain closed at this time. Additional snow is needed before the trails can be opened for safe riding. The forecast for early this week looks promising with a couple of snow events possible. Keep checking back for updates. Think snow!

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – January 9, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 3 inches average on the trail.

Date of Report: January 9, 2017

Area Report:

The area received about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of fluffy snow overnight. Every little bit helps on trails that already average good overall. Our trails where there is NO logging going on are Very Good to Excellent. The sections where there IS logging going on are only fair at best.

Other than the little bit of new snow – no real updates to report. We groomed last night – as always – doing the best we can with what there is to work with. We DO need some better snow to work with to improve a couple areas that need some help. One of those sections is Trail 9 between Sayner & Ross Lake Rd. The trail bed on that section has a few deep holes that need at least a 9 inch WET snowfall to fill them with where traffic won’t beat the snow right back out of the hole.

Logging is going to continue all season on a few areas of our system. Unfortunately, the trucks are going to start hauling more of the logs out. This means they will be sanding hills to help the truck’s.  We still groom these sections of trail to attempt to keep them at least as smooth as possible. Unfortunately, the trucks beat the snow down so hard – it leaves little snow for our grooming drags to work with. Again – we’re doing the best we can. Please do everything you can to stay out of the way of the logging trucks and equipment. Do not hinder them and especially – DO NOT hassle them. Always keep in mind they DO have the option to shut that section of trail down.

There is at least several inches in the forecast for today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. We’ll take every bit of white gold we can get right now!!!

Lets be careful out there!!!

To view detailed trail conditions, visit the Price County Tourism website at http://www.pricecountywi.net/843/Reports—Trail-and-Recreation. All trails are open and being groomed or panned except for some areas where swamps are not frozen enough to go through with the groomer.  The condition ranges from very good to poor due to the areas that can’t be groomed or where there isn’t enough snow cover. Forecasters are predicting 3-6 inches of snow for our area by late Tuesday. There are a few logging operations underway, so watch for equipment and workers on the trail in those areas. Lake ice is variable; for your safety, please do not travel on the lakes until the club members have marked the lake trails. To order travel guides, visit our website at www.pricecountywi.net.

Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 9, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 3-5

Date of Report: January 9, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club – It’s -6° this morning in beautiful downtown Townsend. The groomers were out last night and the trails are  back in GOOD to VERY GOOD riding condition. They froze down very hard and should hold up very well. There was heavy traffic in the area yesterday and I hope everyone had a good time. Get your riding in early today, I hear there’s a football game this afternoon!!

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – All trails were groomed today and groomed out very good. We rate them as good. Ride safe and stay warm!!!!

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails – The trails are getting better, we have a good base and the snow we received Friday night and Monday night helped. The marshes still need time to freeze up, before we can groom them. Club member reported in this weekend and said the trails were fair to good condition in many areas.  Snow is light on the east portion of the trail system, from Klondike north to White Potato Lake.  Pipeline is in fair condition due to lack of grooming.  Forest trails are fair to good.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Trails are CLOSED.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open and in “early season” condition, with possible icy areas, occasional exposed rocks, and some thin or rutted areas. There are some wet low spots that have not frozen up yet- or that have frozen up and have not been groomed smooth yet.

Our groomer broke through a water hole on the north end of the pipeline trail on Thursday, January 5th- use extra caution in this area.

Most of our trails have a smooth, flat, solid ice base with 1-2″” of snow cover on top of that base. We are grooming when possible. More snow will greatly improve our trail conditions.

Areas we recommend you use extreme caution in until they freeze up completely and can be groomed properly: pipeline trail- rough with broken water holes, trail from Junction to pipeline- rough with broken water holes, Twin Pine road trail- rutted from vehicle tracks, 18 Corridor from Neligan Rd to Crooked Lake- rough swampy area. These areas have substantial wet & muddy areas which may or may not have frozen yet- either way they could possibly cause issues for you and your sled.

Our trails are rideable, but they are still in early season condition- please use extra caution, especially in the areas listed above.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails –  Trails are CLOSED.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are CLOSED.

Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 9, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-10

Date of Report: January 9, 2017

Area Report:

Trail report for January 9, 2017- The trails are in fair to good condition. With the very cold temps and very little snow, the corners have become bare and icy. Please use caution. The traffic on the trails over the weekend was moderate and did not degrade our trails terribly. We have several snow systems heading our way over the next four days and are expecting a possible 3” to 5”. If we do get this snow it will help our groomers to smooth out and fill in the icy corners of the trails. We always want more snow. Stay on marked trails. Please be careful out there! Remember be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Report: Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – January 9, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12-16 INCHES

Date of Report: January 9, 2017

Area Report:

Bad News First:  There really isn’t any bad news to report.

Good News: Trails are in Good to possibly better condition. They are flat and hard with a couple of inches of fresh snow on top. The cold conditions and non existent traffic last weekend really helped. Traffic should pick up this week with warmer temps and the MLK Weekend but trails should hold up well. Snow in the forecast as well.

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – January 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8″-9″ in the woods

Date of Report: January 8, 2017

Area Report:

Groomers are out tonight as I type.

Today I rode Conover to Phelps via the lake, Land O via Lac Vieux Dessert then 6W to 13S. Trails were basically good with a few fair areas, especially considering the minimal new snow we have received. Traffic was nearly non-existent, I passed 6 sleds and 12 deer on the trails. I’m sure the cold had something to do with that. Forecast has 4 to 6 inches of new snow between tonight & Tuesday. Lets hope it isn’t another non-event weather system. Trails should hold up well with the cold & low traffic levels.

Until we get some new snow, expect to see a bit of gravel poking thru on forest road trails & some bare pavement on road routes. Watch your wear bars a bit more than usual.

Twin Haven via the new trail; Trail is nice except for the last 3/4 mile where it turns off the grade. This section has now been groomed & is much better but still has new trail bumps.. For those running along the power lines N from North Twin boat ramp, you now have a stop sign at the grade, E/W traffic has the right of way.

The lakes are marked and pretty smooth now..

News and Reports:

Don’t forget you need a WI trail permit to ride the state’s groomed trail system. Aggressive riding causes more trail damage than slower, less aggressive riding. Until the base gets built up & we get more snow to work with, groomers can only do so much to repair damage.
