Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 16, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 5-9

Date of Report: January 16, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club – It’s 6:00 AM and -11 degrees this morning and I just got home from grooming. Yes they sure took a beating yesterday those trails, but we whipped them back in shape overnight. They still are in VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT condition and the early risers will be rewarded with hard and fast trails again today! As the day progresses and the temps rise the snow is sure to soften. 1/15/2017

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – The groomers were out Sunday night smoothing out the trails before the expected coating of ice later today and into Tuesday. Trail boss Jack Bailey said they groomed out very good. We are asking if the temperatures go into the mid to upper 30’s you stay off the trails to save the base for the future. Hopefully the rain stays south of Green Bay. Congratulations to the Packers on a awesome win. I will update what and how much precipitation we receive. Ride Safe !!!

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails – 9 inches of new snow, the trails will be groomed Wednesday and Thursday all but some marshes still need to freeze up. The groomer drivers said the trails are still very good in many areas after the weekend and before the new snow. Can you help us out when you ride in the areas not groomed pack down the outside of the trails not just stay in the middle of it, this will help freeze them up.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Grooming now and trails will open at noon today 1/10/2017.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open, being groomed, and in good condition. Our groomers will be out for the next several days working on the 7-9 inches of fresh snow we got today, with more on the way tomorrow. Overall trail conditions will improve once the groomers are able to cover the entire trail system.

Use caution and watch for the groomers, who could be out on the trails at any hour of the day or night.

Once the groomers catch up with all the fresh snow, we’ll update with any possible problem areas. Until then, enjoy your ride and please ride sober and safe out there.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails – Trails are open.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are open.

Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are open.

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 16, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12-15

Date of Report: January 16, 2017

Area Report:

Trail report for January 16, 2017-Our trails are very good. With all the snow we received last week it made very nice conditions for the snowmobilers over the long weekend. There were many snowmobiles and with the amount of traffic the smooth trails did not last very long. Our groomers were out at all hours over the weekend to smooth out the trails. We are expecting some warmer temps for the rest of the week and some rain/snow mix but we are right on the line of the freezing point so hopefully it won’t degrade our trails that bad. Our groomers will be out to do what they can to give you a nice trail. There are some active logging operations on our trail system so use caution in these areas. Please be careful out there! Remember be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Report: Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – January 16, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 16 inches give or take

Date of Report: January 16, 2017

Area Report:

Good News—-Lots of people around and most trails held up well over the busy weekend. Rode Watersmeet, Conover, Phelps, 3 Lakes the most and met lots of groomers. There is lots of snow and plentiful sunshine for excellent scenery.

Bad News—Trail 6 by Land O Lakes was extremely mogully last night after the Packer game. Either the groomers were waiting to go out after the game ( I hope) or they will be out today.

Weather forecast is calling for the January thaw coming up. We have a little snow to play with but we will see what temps next weekend brings.

News and Reports:

Radar Run and Pig Skin Poker Run coming up soon—Contact Bents Camp for more info.

Snowmobile Information:

There is going to be some slush appearing on the lakes with the warmer weather so I would advise to stay near the barrels.

Way to go Packers!

Area Report:

All Washburn County snowmobile trails are now open. Significant new snow was received January 9th – 11th. Groomers are currently out packing down the snow we received to form a good base. Trail conditions are fair to good with a 4 to 8 inch snow base.  As always, please ride with caution; Some minor trail segments may be rough, due to thin snow coverage.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 15+inches

Date of Report: January 16, 2017

Area Report:

What a great weekend we all had.  There were so many out there enjoying those gorgeous trails and the fantastic weather.

Due to the heavy traffic, there are some areas somewhat thin on snow now.  All three groomers are out there today freshening up the trail.  The groomer that takes care of the River Trail did break down this weekend, but he is back up and running today. I cannot say these trails are in excellent shape anymore, but they are definitely in GOOD to VERY GOOD condition!

I am watching that weather forecast.  Looks like warm temps coming…hopefully, that will stay south of us.  Watch this trail report for an update on that.

So, I am heading out with some great friends for a snowmobile ride.  Maybe I’ll see YOU out there??

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – January 16, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 17″ – 18″ in the woods

Date of Report: January 16, 2017

Area Report:

Both groomers were out last night. Traffic was heavy Friday night & Saturday with the Vintage Derby weekend in ER & then a constant stream of trailers heading south Sunday. Temps have moderated from the sub-zero lows Friday. Trails should be very good to excellent in the Conover network this morning. How they hold up will depend how high temps climb but I think today will be OK.

Unfortunately, temps are forecast above freezing every day thru Saturday with low 40’s possible by Thursday.

Twin Haven via the new trail; Trail is nice except for the last 3/4 mile where it turns off the grade. This section has now been groomed & is much better but still has new trail bumps.. For those running along the power lines N from North Twin boat ramp, you now have a stop sign at the grade, E/W traffic has the right of way.

The lakes are marked and have lots of snow. Watch for drifting, North Twin has lots of drifts especially as you head farther east.

News and Reports:

It crossed my mind that for those of you that have never snowmobiled in Vilas or surrounding, it is unlike areas further south. We really have nearly zero farm field crossings. Most riding is in the woods, some trails are on old rail grades & there are lots of lake crossings. But, be prepared to travel a distance to the next stop, especially along the northern portions of the county. Please stay on the trails; Trespassing is the fastest way to loose trails.

Don’t forget you need a WI trail permit to ride the state’s groomed trail system. Aggressive riding causes more trail damage than slower, less aggressive riding. Ride right & be safe.

Trail Report: Eagle River, Wisconsin – January 16, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8 inch + – hard base with deep snow cover

Date of Report: January 16, 2017

Area Report:

Trails Good to Excellent Condition

Heavy traffic over the past weekend but all in all trails are still in Good to Excellent condition after last nights grooming. However we are headed into a warm for the better part of this week.  At 8am it is 5 degrees with a high of 36 and overnight temperature of 21.  Cross your fingers that the evil sun stays undercover.

Right now there is an 8+ hard base with total snow at about 22-23 inches.

Trail Boss reports groomers out last night grooming.  All main trails were groomed.  Do not have report for some of the Club Spurs.  Will try to have information on those by tomorrows report.

Rode a short 50 miles yesterday to be home for the Packer Game.  Started east of Eagle River on Trail 10E which was groomed but already had heavy traffic. Watch at driveways as large moguls just as you cross.  All the way to 10E/Alt 13 intersection.  Left down Alt 13 all the way to downtown Three Lakes.  All groomed to Three Lakes but again lots of traffic. Road crossings & several corners icy. Back to Eagle River on Alt 13 & in Town & all the way through to Trail 17N. Groomed both on east & west side of Hwy 45.  Some bumps in the swampy area on the west side which would be expected. All the way to Trail 1 heading to Eagle Lake.  Good riding with the trail along side Townline Rd bumpy. Crossed Eagle Lake & no surface slush.  Connecting back to Trail 10E & home.  All in all Good to Very Good.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are OPEN & safe by the orange reflective barrels.

As you ride keep the Emergency 3 Digit Numbers in mind.  If you need assistance with an emergency call 911 & give them the most recent number you saw.  This helps dispatch pin point your location.

Nothing really new to update; our system averages in very good condition where there is no logging taking place and only fair to good where there IS logging going on.

Please continue to keep an eye out for logging ahead signs. Heed their warning and obey the posted speed limits. Do not get in the loggers way and especially DO NOT hassle them. They will shut the trail down and they have the legal right to do so.
