Trail Report: Bergland, Michigan – January 18, 2017

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: Ok – for now

Date of Report: January 18, 2017

Area Report:

Our forecast is not very favorable and there is nothing we can do except wait it out.   Temps are expected to warm up to possibly 40 – however –keep in mind it only stays that high for a couple of hours and then drops.    Even still – we are going to have challenging conditions for several days.    Temps next week are expected to drop and there is snow in the forecast for 10 days beginning on Tuesday.   Daytime grooming will not be possible during the warmup but depending upon the temperature groomers may be out at night.   Watch for wet areas to possibly reopen and stay off of streams.

Please remember that you are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticked.    You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant.  If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.    Also, there is no trail access through the parking lot of the Walleye Lodge as that access is limited for their guest use.

I wish we had better news to report – but for the moment that’s all we got.    We’ve still got a lot of winter left so don’t lose hope!

The Walleye Lodge Ice Fishing Tournament is Jan 28-29 for all you fishermen!

Thanks much and be safe.

Trail Report: Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 18, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-12″

Date of Report: January 18, 2017

Area Report:

With warmer temperatures trail conditions are deteriorating throughout the county. All trails are still open but most clubs have suspended grooming for the time being. Riders should use caution and may experience trail segments with poor snow conditions.

Please keep in mind that some of these trails are on private land.  Private landowners give us permission to maintain portions of these trails on their property.  If a segment is in poor condition or if riding could result in damage, please refrain from use.  Any damage to the trail system, especially those that exist on private land, will jeopardize our future use privileges and potentially result in permanent trail closures.

A more detailed report will be posted Friday!

Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 18, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5-9

Date of Report: January 18, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club – It’s 32 degrees as I type this today. We also picked up 1 1/2″-2″ of snow last night while many of you are still fighting the ice. What a difference a couple of days make! The trails are in VERY GOOD condition YET! We groomed the bad spots yesterday so they can freeze down flat again when the cold decides to return. The rest of the trails are just fine with the exception of some of the potholes in the hills that just need a little more snow to fill them. During this warm spell please try and stay off the trails when the temperature is above freezing. It will only do damage to our wonderful base! Rule of thumb: If your driveway and yard are sloppy, so are the trails!!!

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – The groomers were out Sunday night smoothing out the trails before the expected coating of ice later today and into Tuesday. Trail boss Jack Bailey said they groomed out very good. We are asking if the temperatures go into the mid to upper 30’s you stay off the trails to save the base for the future. Hopefully the rain stays south of Green Bay. Congratulations to the Packers on a awesome win. I will update what and how much precipitation we receive. Ride Safe !!!

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails -We will be closing the trails Wednesday 1/18/2017 7:00AM. We are trying  to save the trails and get colder weather to open them back up.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Gillett Trails remain open with good to excellent riding conditions.  We are out grooming several times a week.  Just a reminder the Gillett Shell Station to the Chuck Wagon is closed. There is a marked trail along Highway 32 to get to the Wildfire Hotel and Bar that is it. Please stay on marked trails.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open, being groomed when possible, and in good condition.

Last night we got about 1/2″ of freezing rain. The next 7 days of weather don’t look very nice for our trails, either.

With forecasted temperatures approaching 40 with possible rain, we are asking that you use common sense- and stay off the trails until the temperatures drop back down. We believe the trails will withstand this January thaw- your cooperation will help make this happen.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails –  Trails are Closed.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are Closed.

Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are Closed.

Update from our Namakagon Trail Groomers: We have had some warm weather and sun the last few days, with warm temperatures and less sun forecasted through this coming weekend. Groomers were able to get out and did a portion of our trails last night but any future operations are going to be put on hold until temperatures and our base changes. We will keep you updated as to when we are able to get back out.

Trail Report: Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – January 18, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 11″-15″

Date of Report: January 18, 2017

Area Report:

As most of you know we are in a major warm up for this time of the year.  As of right now, our trails are in excellent condition.  We have a great base.  It all depends on what Mother Nature hands us in the next couple days that will determine how our trails hold up.  Lakes are getting a bit slushy, but stay by the barrels and you will be fine.  Some of the roads are becoming bare with the warm up.  We are still grooming daily.

Trail Report: Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – January 18, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 33″ to 50″

Date of Report: January 18, 2017

Area Report:

All trails are open except for #122 from Lake Linden to Gay, which is being logged.  You may take the trail in order to reach the trail to Dreamland, but no farther.  Trail #133 between Gay and Lac Labelle is a little rough, as usual.  It doesn’t seem to get all the snow that the other trails get and doesn’t get groomed as often.  All other trails are being groomed daily.  That being said, yes the weather up here has been beautiful this week; sunshine, and warmer temps.  The trails are holding up great and there is plenty of snow on the trails to make it thru this little warm spell.  The snow in the parking lots and back streets is still not melting.  I know its hard to picture this when you are sitting somewhere that it is 40 and all your snow has melted, but we had 5 feet of snow!  It takes more than this to melt that!  I will keep you updated on how the trails are holding up and I will be truthful.

Remember when out on the trails to respect others and private property, stay off all water- there are open holes out there, keep the speed in check-there are a lot of great sights to see out there on the trails, and save the drinking for after the riding.  Happy Trails!

Trail Report: Sugar Camp, Wisconsin – January 18, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-10″

Date of Report: January 18, 2017

Area Report:

Trail’s in Sugar Camp are in good riding conditions yet but with the upcoming warm up will start deteriorating. Some brown and snirrty areas are appearing in corners. In the woods they will hold up out of the sunlight but the forecast is not looking very promising for the next week here as temps predicted to go into the 40’s. Some corners in woods are getting icy out of the sun so use caution coming into them. Stay close to orange barrels while crossing lakes and they may be getting rough due to drifting. All we can do is hope they will hold up in this warm spell. Remember to purchase your annual trail pass before riding the trails and support a club. United we trail divided we fail!
