Trail Report: Eagle River, Wisconsin – January 31, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Hard base – Snow covered

Date of Report: January 31, 2017

Area Report:

Trails Good to Fair Condition

Snow started late yesterday afternoon with fine heavy at times wet snow.  Too wet so it took time for it to accumulate. All said & done only about 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches of SNOW total. So yes it time to DO THE SNOW DANCE! Pushing the SNOW up north. Weather guys forecast a little more SNOW on Wednesday.

Trail Boss reports no grooming last night.  Groomers out again tonight.  Trails have a hard base with loose SNOW on top.  Traffic yesterday was very low.  Trail are in Good to Fair Condition.  In town snirt at the crossing.  This is caused by the sand & salt put on the roads being dragged onto the trails.

Not seeing much in the line of problem areas other than it is icy under the new SNOW so you might notice sled slipping or “squirrelly” as you ride.  Even on the straight aways.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trail are OPEN & safe by the orange reflective barrels.  No surface slush.

***ALERT***
The WI River Bridge portion of Trails 10W/13N is CLOSED. Due to high water from the dam.  It is FENCED/GATED.  DO NOT GO AROUND THE BARRIERS.
Extreme Danger beyond the barriers.

Time to start Doin’ The Snow Dance!

Trail Report: Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 1-5 inches

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

Hello Snowmobilers!

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

The forecast calls for about 4-6″ today and that is wonderful news for the Northwoods! The groomers will be out in full force when we get 4-6″!

Sawyer Co trails are OPEN and as of this morning (prior to this current  snow fall) the trails have anywhere from a 0-5″ base depending on whether you are on the wooded trails or in the open trails along the roads. The wooded trails are fair to poor. There are scattered bare spots along the roads but there has been dustings over the weekend which doesn’t account for much but does turn things white and the temps are colder so that white is staying. The lakes have at least foot of ice on them and are in fair conditions as they are smooth but slick.

There is one exception to the lakes, Lake Hayward has open water under the bridge along Hwy 77 and near the Market Place entrance, the entrance areas have been roped off so please for your safety, stay off of Lake Hayward.

The temps will continue to be in the teens as a high for the week and through the weekend, perfect riding weather!

Ashland and Bayfield County are partially open, Price Co is open, Washburn and Rusk Counties are closed. We will update on those counties with any change.

We will be updating trail conditions when this snow fall ends and we predict a good update!

Trail 36 from Flambeau to Price Co line  is rerouted back to the old trail along Hwy W.

Trail Closures:

Trail 63 north of Seeley from Bodecker Rd to Bayfield Co line is CLOSED

Trail 5/27 from Tuscobia south to Rusk Co line is CLOSED.

Trail 6 from Tuscobia by Ojibwa north to the Chippewa Flowage, also CLOSED.

As always… thank you to the club members and volunteers for their hard work and to you for visiting and enjoying Sawyer County!

Trail Report: Lake Gogebic, Michigan – January 30, 2017

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Fair

Date of Report: January 30, 2017

Area Report:

For the week of Jan 30 – Feb 6:

Colder temperatures (especially at night!)  and snow is in the forecast and just what we need to get our conditions back in shape.   We had about 7” of snow last night and there’s snow forecasted for almost every day this week.    Trail conditions continue to improve daily and we had riders in that said that the “were actually not bad at all” and they also said that they were a lot better than the expected.     Groomers have been out and are working hard to get this back in shape.     1 South is still plagued with wet spots and an impassable spot on trail 12 between Greenland and Ontonagon was reported, however, it was also reported that the “trail was groomed to perfection on the way up to it”.

As previously posted, please stay on the trails in Bergland. You are not allowed to ride the highway through town and may be ticketed. You can only access the gas station by following the trail through the park and crossing directly across from the gas station from Antonio’s Restaurant.  If riding the roads through Merriweather (down to the Hoop ‘N Holler Tavern or to the lake) please remember to ride at the posted speed limit of 25 mph and stay to the side and as always be aware that this is a residential area and watch for traffic.    Also, access through the Walleye Lodge to the Lake is limited to their guests and customers.

There’s a lot of winter and good riding to be had.   Just waiting for Mother Nature to turn her snow machine back on.    She likes to keep us on our toes with her “reality checks”.      We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and we look forward to seeing you very soon!!

Have a great week….
