Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: One to 5 inches

Date of Report: January 9, 2018

Area Report:

Hello Riders!!

It was a great weekend of riding! Sawyer County had the honor of hosting the AWSC banquet and ride and we loved to share our trails with others around the state who are the voice of our sport! Thank you to all who attended and rode and to all Alliance/club members and volunteers who worked hard hosting and guiding! And thank you to Flat Creek for the accommodations.

The trails held up nicely and are still in good condition with a 1-5″ base (1″ being in the open and near roads). All lakes are staked including Lake Hayward!

The next few days will be in the low to mid-thirties but by Wed we have white in the forecast! Wednesday night thru Thursday has a possibility of (depending on the forecast you need to believe) 5 to 8 to 12 inches of snow!!! Starting Friday temps will be back into the single digits with a high of 10 degrees. This will be fantastic for another great riding weekend! So get your sleds loaded up and gear on and be ready to ride!

Bayfield County is reported to be in good condition, Price in fair condition, Ashland, Douglas and Washburn counties are partially open and Barron and Rusk counties are currently closed.

Thank you to all club members and volunteers and thank you to all who choose Sawyer County as your riding destination!

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: Base in need of fresh snow

Date of Report: January 9, 2018

Area Report:

ALL SNOWMOBILE TRAILS ARE OPEN
FAIR TO POOR EARLY RIDING CONDITION
FRESH SNOW WANTED

Warm spell continues for a couple of more days.  Then back to the cold & below zero temps.  Looks like chance of SNOW on Wednesday evening & Thursday.  Sure hope it is measurable.  Trail could use it.

After a nearly full grooming on Sunday night.  No grooming last night.  With the warm up good choice.

Here are some updates on the trails:

  • Trail 1N has a logging operation in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake.
  • Wisconsin River Trail – 10W/13N is now being groomed off & on it is icy and rough in spots.
  • Same for Manske Swamp – 3N. Both were groomed last night.  No surface slush as of yesterday.  With this few day warm up slush may develop.  So be aware of that.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are now both marked and officially open.  Please stay by the barrels to be safe.  Reminder the Catfish Lake Loop to Lumpy’s is NO LONGER a trail.  No surface slush right now but the warm up could cause some slush.

If you are riding zip on over to the “grade” to check out the 2018 Eagle River Area Fire Department ICE CASTLE!!!!  Located adjacent to the downtown “grade” trail by the Historic Railroad Grade.  The lights installed change colors.  Check out this link Eagle River Ice Castle to check out more photos.  Darn pretty!

Keep Dancin Really Hard!  The trails really need more SNOW!

See ya on the trails!

Trail Report – : Crivitz, Wisconsin – January 8, 2018

Reporter:ironsnowshoe

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: about 6 inches

Date of Report: January 8, 2018

Area Report:

We did go out for a short ride on Saturday morning.  There are bare spots…ruts and holes that cannot be filled in yet.  We definitely need snow.  The gates are open, but the riding is not very good.

I will rate the trail as fair because it is passable.

All we need is about 3 or 4 inches of snow and we would be in good shape so, please send us some snow!

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 8, 2018

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 8 to 10 inches average (in the woods)

Date of Report: January 8, 2018

Area Report:

Our trails continue to be in the fair to good range. There is not a lot of base, but continued grooming at least has everything flat. Of course, the trails in the woods are better. The Sayner town trail is very snirty. We need snow is the bottom line.

Its bad news / good news that we are going to have a short warmup. The bad part is that we cannot afford to lose any snow. The good part is that hopefully the warm up will bring some snow in. Thursday looks to be our best chance with 3 to 5 inches in the forecast. Hopefully we’ll get it and hopefully its heavy/wet snow that we can finally build a better base with.

Continue to use caution on all lakes. Slushy spots can come and go.

News and Reports:

There are logging operations in the following locations: Trail 9 between Hwy 70 (TIN 364) and Ross Lake Rd (TIN 225), Trail 7 between Wharton Lake Rd (TIN 218) and Old K (Tin 217), and Trail 7 between Hwy K (TIN 216) and Lake Laura Rd (TIN 214). There is also logging in the Jean Lake Rd area of Trail 7 North, between TINS 227 & 800. That logging should be in the woods off the trail.

(TIN = Trail Intersection Numbers)

Please watch out for these logging areas. Slow down and stay out of the way of the loggers. DO NOT hassle the loggers. They have the right to close down sections of any trail they are logging near or using. If they get hassled too much, that is exactly what they will do – shut that trail down. The logging operations can run at anytime of the day or night. Loggers use some of the trails to drive in and out. So please be watchful in logging areas for trucks on the trail.

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 8, 2018

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 7-9 Inches

Date of Report: January 8, 2018

Area Report:

Trail report for January 8, 2018, Fair to good condition. Our groomers have been out and have been able to make a nice and flat trail. We sure do need some more snow because our base is very thin. There is very little snow in the active logging operations. Corners are getting bare and icy. Be careful and use caution! We are expecting warmer weather with a snow system coming in on Wednesday and Thursday. We could have some accumulation and we will see how much we get but, this could be very good to freshen up our trails. Cross your fingers and do the snow dance. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.
