Trail Report: Lake Gogebic, Michigan – February 9, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 8″ of new snow

Date of Report: February 9, 2017

Area Report:

This is the winter that everyone has been waiting for – MID FEBRUARY IN THE UP!    We have had a lot of snow – more than 8” over the last few days.      With that good snow brings a lot of traffic to the area, however, the groomers have been out and doing a good job of keeping the trails in order.      As we head into the weekend, we will see a warmup into the mid 30’s for a couple of days, but then temps will drop back down by Tuesday and we have another 8-12” forecasted between Feb 13-18th.

Casey from Lake Gogebic Motel has been out grooming and has reported that he’s been out on 102 and 1 and they are in great shape.   Trail 13 N to Rockland has been reported as very good – traffic is steady which will affect the conditions over the next few days. The south portion has some bumps and is thin but that is true with most trails on the South of the lake as they have not received the snow that the North side received.  Trail 8 to Ewen is good – but gets bad after Ewen.   Trail 1 South on the West Shore is in good to excellent condition.

There’s going to be a lot of traffic – so best to hit it early.    Be safe and be courteous to other riders and our groomers who are working hard to make sure we all have a good time on the trails!

Enjoy the snow!!

Trail Report: Crivitz, Wisconsin – February 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10 inches

Date of Report: February 8, 2017

Area Report:

As most of you know, the BIG storm that was supposed to come went from 12 inches to 5 inches to NO inches!  However, all the groomers were out today…here is what they are reporting back to me.  Most of our trail is in very good condition.  The exception is the southeast section known as the River Trail being good riding, but expect some bare corners and top of hills and some short stretches.  Newton Lake area is reported to be good.  The high traffic area in Twin Bridge is in good condition with the exception of the areas where the logging was done earlier in the season.  These areas are hard ice base and limited on snow cover, but very passable.  (Just blink a couple times and you will be through it!)  Now the best news of all, the trails west of Parkway Road and North of Highway C are GOOD and VERY GOOD riding!  Just be careful out there, corners are icy.   With cold temps today and tomorrow, the trails should last very well for the weekend.  Hopefully, it will not get as warm as they have predicted.

I talked to some snowmobilers who are staying in the Twin Bridge Area.  They rode from there to Crooked Lake today and told me they could not believe how good these trails are.  They also commented on what a great job our groomer guys are doing pulling snow in from each side of the trail to make our little bit of snow last even longer.

We also rode about 300 miles this week on our trail system and adjoining trail systems both west and north.  It was awesome!!!

Trail Report: Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – February 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8 fresh inches

Date of Report: February 8, 2017

Area Report:

Fresh snow and temps in the single digits were just what the Dr. ordered. Received 6-8 inches of snow yesterday and this morning–more north and west. Trails are all groomed and ready to ride. Going to be a BUSY weekend so try to get up before or after if possible.

News and Reports:

Bloody Manny, The Mexican Missile and I rode yesterday. Conover Excellent, Sayner flat but they did not get the new snow, Boulder excellent, and Land O trails good except near from Black Oak to town were bumpy. Plenty of snow.

Lakes offer great riding but Know Before You Go!

Trail Report: Oconto County, Wisconsin – February 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5-7

Date of Report: February 8, 2017

Area Report:

Townsend – Red Arrow Snowmobile – ATV Club –  There is freezing rain coming down as I give you this report. The trails are still in GOOD TO VERY GOOD riding condition, with icy corners and stretches. We were out grooming yesterday on the busier trails and they groomed out great.

Lakewood – Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club – All trails were groomed on Monday anticipating the upcoming storm. The Lakewood area received freezing rain and a dusting of snow late Tuesday evening. Our temperatures will be very cold the next two days and will warm up Friday. The weekend as of now looks like above normal temperatures. Trail boss Jack Bailey said there are ice covered stretches and a lot of ice on the corners. There is still plenty of loose snow for lubrication. Ride Safe.

Bagley and Brazeau – Joyriders Trails -Trails are back open on Feb 1st at 7:00am.  They are in good condition but there is a problem on the Butler Springs trail.  Logging has been taking place on Butler Springs Rd and will continue for  the next few weeks.  The loggers removed most of the snow on the trail.   Since it has snowed the groomer drivers have been out on this trail trying to re-groom it.  We don’t know if the loggers will come back and take off the new snow that has recently fallen.  If you are familiar with the ATV trail that runs next to the snowmobile trail, through Butler Springs, you, can use this trail.  If we continue to have a problem with keeping it groomed, we plan to start grooming the ATV trail.  Also we have problems grooming  in other areas with thin ice.  On the Pipeline and a few other areas the ice is to thin for the groomer to groom but safe for snowmobiles to ride.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Trails are in very good condition. Groomers were out Tuesday and groomed again today.  2-3 inches of snow expected for Saturday.  Should be great trail riding for a while.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Chute Pond trails are open, and we are grooming on a regular basis. Our trails are in good condition, with an icy base- which with normal traffic gets exposed in and around the corners.

Please be aware that the groomers may be out day and night as needed to keep the trails in shape. Please watch out for the groomers, and give them space when you see them.

Expect a few rough and bare spots, possibly some standing water and slushy spots, and probable icy areas, especially near the corners. Please ride with caution- and stay on the marked trails. Enjoy your ride.

Oconto Falls – Sno Jokers Trails – Trails will be closing tomorrow 2/9/17 at 7:00 am. With the warm weather coming, we do not have enough snow to keep them open without risk of damaging the crop land our landowners graciously allow us to cross.

Lena Snow Drifters – Trails are open and in fair to poor condition.  Won’t be grooming until we receive more snow.

Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report: Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – February 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 30″40″

Date of Report: February 8, 2017

Area Report:

We have been getting snow all week, and you would never even know that we had a thaw a little over a week ago!  All trails from Copper Harbor to Twin Lakes are open and being groomed daily.  Trail 122 from Lake Linden to Gay is closed because of logging.  You can take the trail to get to the Dreamland trail, but no farther.  This week has been busy in town and on the trails, lots of riders hitting up the new snow.

Remember to respect private property and others on the trail, stay off the water, slow down, and save the drinking for after the driving.

Happy Trails!  Trail Goddess!

Trail Report: Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – February 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10-12

Date of Report: February 8, 2017

Area Report:

Trail report for February 8 2017-Trails are very good. With the few inches of snow we received Tuesday it freshened up our trails nicely. They are flat and smooth. Our groomers have been out and the icy corners and bare spots are getting better. The logging areas still have very little snow so use caution. There is a warm up expected towards the weekend and hopefully that won’t degrade our trails too bad if the temps get above freezing. We can always use more snow and cold weather!!!   Please be careful out there! Remember be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trail Report: Sayner, Wisconsin – February 8, 2017

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 3 to 5 inches – on the trail

Date of Report: February 8, 2017

Area Report:

With 3 inches (+/-) of fresh white gold; our trails are in good to excellent condition!!! As always close to town or heavily traveled intersections, will be pretty rough and snirty. Lakes are rough. Sections where we have logging going on are going to be poor to fair. To see where there is logging going on; click on the link below. Trail 7, north and south of Star Lake, is still on the list. However currently there is little to no logging activity. The reason it stays on the list is because it can start back up at anytime.

This past weekend was a bad one for snowmobile fatalities. There were 4 bringing the total within the state to 11. Please ride safe folks! Lets not add to that total! Slow down and ride another day!!!
