THE WORK TO PREP THE TRAILS CONTINUES – WHAT WE NEED IS COLD WEATHER

Sno-Eagles Club members are busy finishing up the signing, brushing, tree and branch cutting to prepare the trails for the upcoming Trail Inspections. Inspections will begin sometime in the first week of December. There are 11 Clubs so it takes time.

There is equipment readiness to get completed. Landowner easements have been completed.

Sno-Eagles Country is in need of some COLD weather to freeze up swamps and other wet trail areas. Then the snow can fly!

Weather and trail conditions permitting trails in Sno-Eagles Country and all of Vilas County could open December 12. After the deer hunts are completed. Remember we need COLD, frozen trails and SNOW. Right now it does not look like this will happen.

Keep THINKING COLD!!!

Trail Report: Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan – November 14, 2017

Reporter:SaultSteMarie

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 0″

Date of Report: November 14, 2017

Area Report:

Only 16 days until the trails open! It’s been a very wet fall, so we will have lots of wet areas once grooming starts.

Follow us on Twitter @sootrails.

We have a newly-plowed parking area at the beginning of Trail #8 under the International Bridge, which now has an all-season Porta-John.

If you are staying in the Sault, please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business. Please do that in all the towns you visit. The grooming entities are made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!

Remember, trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below, not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods.  10 inches of snow compresses to less than an inch on the trail.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 0 – 0 inches – Trail is in poor condition.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 0 – 1 inches -Trail is in poor condition.

When going across the bridge in Brimley, make sure you go with the flow of traffic! Blowing and drifting occurs when you first leave Brimley.

Raco to Naomikong, Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 0 – 1 inches – Trail is in poor condition.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 0 – 0 inches – Trail is in poor condition.

We now have a marked & groomed trail going to Chippewa Motors.  It starts once you come out of the woods east off M-129 off #449. It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

City curfew is from 1 AM – 6 AM. Remember, most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right-hand side of street, not on sidewalks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 0 – 0 inches – Trail is in poor condition. Make sure you follow the reroute once you cross the bridge going south at 7 Mile Road.

When the trail is running along, roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross Loop & South to Pickford, parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –

Base 0 – 0 inches – Trail is in poor condition.

Kinross to Raco & Rudyard, Parts of Trail #472 & #480 –

Base 0 – 1 inches – Trail is in poor condition. Watch for reroute signs just west of Kinross. Road shoulders are bare.

The Downtown Trail is signed, but snow and barrels on the Portage Ave. Bridge have been removed!

World Record Attempt

Snowmobiling season is still months away, but it is time to sign up for a world record attempt right now!

On February 1st, 2018, come to Sault Ste. Marie to help us try to break the world record for the largest snowmobile parade! We need at least 1,048 snowmobiles on February 1, 2018, the Thursday before the 50th Annual International 500 Snowmobile Race.

The $5.00 registration fee per sled is used to cover the costs incurred to break the record.

All snowmobile operators must have a valid driver’s license and a registered sled.

For more information – and to sign up – follow this link: http://www.saultstemarie.com/event-detail/guinness-world-record-snowmobile-parade/

Trail Report: Conover, Wisconsin – November 1, 2017

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: Trace

Date of Report: November 1, 2017

Area Report:

After a warm September & most of October, temps have fallen to below normal. Also, we had an inch or so of snow Tuesday Oct 31 and again tonight Nov 1st.

Conditions are wet now and we will need to get some frost into the ground and hopefully also freeze up the wet areas or it could be ugly, especially early season.

The trail (rail grade) to Twin Haven & the lake east from the power lines will be closed this season. Follow the trail south along the power lines to the boat ramp.

News and Reports:

Unfortunately, out of necessity, this will be my last trail report. Thanks for reading & be safe.

Trail Report: Lake Gogebic, Michigan – November 1, 2017

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: Bout 18″

Date of Report: November 1, 2017

Area Report:

We’ve received two good bouts of snow – and a total of about 18″ over the last 5 days.   What we really need now are some good strong cold temperatures for numerous consecutive days to firm up the ground before we start dancing for Mother Nature to turn on the snow machine.   Trails are not open till December 1st so get all your “to do” lists taken care of and your Christmas shopping done early – so when December 1st rolls around – you can roll to the U.P.!

We are taking reservations for the 2018 sled season -give us a call so that your group gets the room they want!.   We are located right on the North Shore of Lake Gogebic with access to seven major trails within 3 miles!

SEE YOU SOON!!
