Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – March 3, 2023

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4-8″

Date of Report: March 3, 2023

Snowmobile Information:

Yesterdays high was 29, but bright sun. Today it looks like partial sun and 34. Our lake still have plenty of snow, but caution is advised due to drifts from the other day. Parts of trails in the woods area good, but open areas have burn through spots. Trail boss George, and groomer Ken worked 17, F, and 5 yesterday. Caution areas are 17 from Woodruff to East Boundary, then Raven Lake area with all the tight corners ( although good overall, some ice in corners), then out in the open by Powell Marsh bridge. Trail 1, Stearns Lake Road, is showing a lot of asphalt from sun, but there is still snow on the edges, and the banks are soft enough to pull snow down. Weather and radar shows 36 today, 37 tomorrow, 41 Sunday with chances of snow starting Sunday, then a cool down to teens at night, and 20’s during the day. Right now the trails have one foot on ice, and the other foot on a banana peel. Tons of trailers coming up last night. Casino lot is full, and so is the Great Northern in Mercer, so trails will be busy today. Ride on the right, slow down in the corners, don’t blow by slower riders, and give groomers a wide berth. That’s all I have to say about that, Forrest. Mark

March came in like a lion as we welcomed about 5” of new snow yesterday, bringing out total for the 22-23 season to just under 200”!! Temperature is currently at 20 degrees with a forecasted high of 32 degrees today. We’ve got a bit of a warmup headed our way – and if we can get the temperature to cooperate – we will have an awesome month of riding. Groomers have indicated that they will continue to groom our trails until March 31st –so don’t put those sleds away just yet! Still good riding to be had.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – March 2, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 18-24″

Date of Report: March 2, 2023

Area Report:

Both groomers were out Wednesday night. I groomed the entire east side of town, and it was awesome. Cut out the moguls and pulled corners in to leave a nice ribbon of trail behind me. Cold temps last night should have froze it up nicely. But that evil sun is out this morning, so conditions can change quickly. Hopefully there is enough snow to last thru the weekend. Most areas have a nice hard ice base. But some that get the full sun hitting them don’t have that and may burn out quickly.

News and Reports:

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Be careful in corners as there is an ice layer under the snow. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – March 2, 2023

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-8 inches

Date of Report: March 2, 2023

Area Report:

Washburn County snowmobile trails still remain open at this time. Area Clubs & County Staff are reporting fair conditions after the weekend. The rainy weather received through most of the day on Monday has covered most of the trails in ice. There is snow in the forecast for Wednesday, and we hope that will help with the overall conditions of the trails.

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – March 2, 2023

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 2-3″ more inches of fresh snow

Date of Report: March 2, 2023

Area Report:

The snow has arrived again.    With 2-3” of fresh snow, our trails will be in good shape. USE CAUTION there is a lot of ice under this new snow. Corners wi-ll be very icy. Stay on your side of the trail.  We will be out grooming, day and night, so please give them the room they need.

I also need to add, we are at the edge of what I would consider “late season riding”.  The elevated temperatures in the forecast with sunny days, will have significant impacts on trail conditions this time of the year.  Exposed areas will become snirty and overall thin snow cover.  Conditions will change rapidily, and we will try to update as soon as possible.

Barrels have been removed from Boom Lake, so travel is on your own risk.  All other lakes are still marked.

There is a solid ice base under the snow.  We can’t stress enough to ride defensively out there.

Thank you

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Trails Good to Very Good

New SNOW yesterday afternoon   Looks to be about 3 maybe 4 inches of wet packy SNOW.  March is a month where the temps go up & down so get out & ride.  Going to be partly sunny & 31 today.  Conditions will change,

Going riding today.  Heading into town on 10E & taking Alt 13S to Three Lakes. Across on 13 to Sugar Camp trails.  13N to Eagle River trails to 10/13 connect & into Eagle River.  Back home on “the grade” & 10E.   Report tomorrow

Groomers headed out about 5:30pm last night & groomed:

  • 10/13 through town heading south on Alt13S
  • 70W/13/7 aka Paint Ball field west from behind the Dairy Queen
  • 10W13N from groomer barn heading north to Conover connect
  • 10/W13N portion that crosses the Wisconsin River Bridge
  • All of 10W/7 to include Uncle Kent trail that comes out on Hwy G, 13N to Bauer’s/Buckatabon area.  Note 3C closed for the season
  • 17N to Columbus Rd
  • 3N aka Manske Swamp

Please remember:
When you come upon a group of sleds in front of you on the trail.  Passing them can get you in trouble.   Last time out I saw several groups ride up to other groups.  The entire group passed the group they come upon.  Not a good idea.  By the time the last sled passes, a sled could be coming from the other direction.

Remember as you ride & meet a groomer the equipment is NOT able to leave the trail due to it’s weight.  Pull over & stop.  Wait for direction from the driver.  Give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!

Trail Report – : Phelps, Wisconsin – March 2, 2023

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 18″-24″

Date of Report: March 2, 2023

Area Report:

Welcome to March.  Afew weeks ago I thought it was going to be a shoet season.  We picked up 3″ of snow yesterday and grooming is being done on a regulas basis.  Most all of the clubs in Vilas County have maxed out on their alotted groonming funds.  Which means that the clubs are asorbing the extra cost to keep the trails up.  So please, if you see a map box or donation can, throw some cash in to help us operate.  Now that it is March, please understand that trail conditions can change fast.  Road routes are going to be thawing out leaving bear pavement, gravel and shoulders.  Bear spots on trails will also grow as the sun hits them.  That is in the future.  This weekend should be a great one to get out and ride.  Highs in the mid to upper 30’s.  Please use your heads out there and “Ride Right”
