Land O Lakes was -26 degrees this morning…the coldest spot in the lower 48. Keeps the traffic down some and the trails in great shape. The forecast for the weekend looks great and with the snow south maybe traffic will be a little lighter. Groomers are running nightly and I guarantee that Frosty Club trails can’t be beat.

Trails in sugar camp are in good/ fair riding conditions. Use caution in sharp corners and hills as they are very icy so maintain reasonable speeds while approaching these areas. The sharp corners are getting high burms on them from the high volumes of traffic the past few weekends along with some snirty areas in them. Lake crossings are getting rough in areas from drifting so maintain reasonable speeds while crossing & stay close to the orange barrels. Remember to stay on marked designated trails while riding. Without the generous use of landowners letting trails go through their property we would have no trail systems in the northwoods. Remember to purchase your annual trail pass and maintain nighttime speed limits of 55mph. Support local club’s and businesses as you ride & enjoy our great trail systems. They can use your help. United we trail divided we fail!!

Area Report:
The continued cold has helped us hold onto our base and keep our trails in good condition. We haven’t had any large snow storms recently but some areas are getting little bits of snow here and there and every bit helps. For those riding forest roads on National Forest Service land, please use caution and stay alert! Especially in areas where you see activity i.e. plowed roads. We can’t monitor all the forest roads throughout the county so unsafe conditions may exist. We’ve had reports of large plowed snowbanks on the roads which can be hard to see, so slow down and stay safe. Detailed reports from the local snowmobile clubs are posted below. Stay safe and stay on the trails!
Namakagon Trail Groomers: Namakagon Trail Groomer operators are doing a Great job! Trails have a good base of 3-6 in. Trails are fair in areas to very good in others. The heaviest used areas have some brown mixed in however are grooming well. Riders can expect some icy corners and a few bare spots. Areas of concern are still trail 90 east between old grade and federal Rd! Follow reroute signs and watch for logging TRUCKS! Another area is Trail 15 between Club Lake Rd and Camp Eight Rd at the Great Divide. Heavy ICE over the Trail due to a spring that continues to spread water across and down the trail! SLOW Down!!!
Drummond Snojacks: Groomers are out and will continue with night grooming on the weekend. Trails are in very good condition with some (2″) new snow and below freezing temps that are allowing the trail to hold their base even with heavy weekend use. Do watch for icy spots on steep grades on Trail 63 south to Lake Owen. Road routes north of Grand View now have improved snow coverage but not 100%. Regardless, please use them not private property.
Barnes Barnestormers: Trails 7, 17, 18, 31N & 31S (even 1/3 mile of Iron River trail ha ha! ) are groomed and in great shape, grooming operations will be in progress on Trail 31N, in the evening, please use caution.
Washburn Valhallers: Trail 13 North and Trail 13 South from Washburn will be groomed Friday, 2/9. They remain in good to very-good shape but watch for icy corners and a just a very few bare spots.
South shore Trail Club – Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Trail 1 to 41 and Trail 40 were groomed Wednesday 2/7 and is in very good condition. Wally Polk Trail was done today also and is very good. Trail 1 to Corny will be done Thursday 2/8 and is good but with icy corners.
WAINO Riders- Northwest corner of the County: Trail 1 from Brule to highway 13 was groomed Monday and is smooth as frog hair.

The trails have a 4″ to 6″ base and are in good to excellent condition.
We cannot stress enough to RIDE SAFELY and RESPONSIBLY. Trail conditions will vary greatly throughout the County. Always use caution when riding on lakes and frozen water as ice conditions will vary.
The clubs that maintain the Forest County Trail System are made up of volunteers who work very hard to provide the best trails possible. Please respect them while on the trail. When approaching a groomer or member doing trail maintenance, please slow down and move over so they can do their job.
