Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – February 12, 2018

Reporter:tpeters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 34″ to 43″

Date of Report: February 12, 2018

Area Report:

It’s a chilly, sunny day here in the Keweenaw.  All the trails are open from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor.  The groomers are out and the trails are in great shape.  The trails were a busy place this weekend, as always.  This week is letting up a bit, but the whole week and into the weekend is going to stay busy.  The weather will warm up a bit for the next couple of days, but the nights are still going to be cold.  A few inches of snow are predicted here and there, but no big storms.  You better plan your trip up north to ride, before you know it, the season will be over and the grass will be green!

While out on the trails, respect private property and others on the trail, stay off all water, its not safe, slow down, and save the drinking for after the riding!

Happy Trails!

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 24 inches (+/-) in the Woods

Date of Report: February 12, 2018

Area Report:

Our trails remain good on average. Close to town and heavily traveled sections are poor to fair while further in the woods they are good to very good. Most corners are VERY icy. We could REALLY use some new snow to work with.

News and Reports:

There are logging operations in the following locations: Trail 9 between Hwy 70 (TIN 364) and Ross Lake Rd (TIN 225). There is also logging in the Jean Lake Rd area of Trail 7 North, between TINS 227 & 800. The logging, in this area, should be in the woods away from the trail.

(TIN = Trail Intersection Numbers)

Please watch out forlogging areas. Slow down and stay out of the way of the loggers. DO NOT hassle the loggers. They have the right to close down sections of any trail they are logging near or using. If they get hassled too much, that is exactly what they will do – shut that trail down. The logging operations can run at anytime of the day or night. Loggers use some of the trails to drive in and out. So please be watchful in logging areas for trucks on the trail. Logging operations in any of these areas can start and/or stop without warning. So even if you ride in an area and there was nothing going on one day – it can start back up the next day.

Snow Cover: Trials in Cedarville Open

Date of Report: February 12, 2018

Area Report:

In the last week we have had about 12″ of snow and we were able to open our trails and they are in fair to good condition. Jimmy did start at 4am this morning with the groomer on the Cedarville trails and they should be in good shape (THANK YOU JIM)  We did ride yesterday and ran about 100 miles  we started at the Jane Addams trail head in Freeport and went to Dakota and then on to Rock City and than to Durand for our first stop of the day, after leaving Durand we headed to Pecatonica for our second stop, from Pec. it was over to Ridott for a burger ( a must try if you our in our area) than on back to Freeport. The trails were good and some of the clubs were grooming. To ALL clubs who work so hard on your trails THANK YOU SO MUCH they are marked great and easy to use.

NOW Iam going to get on my soap box and say if we find the dumb a** that cut across the winter wheat field up next to Freeport Honda we WILL press charges as you were trespassing when you went off the marked trail. The land owner let us across that field and you might have just lost us another trail. If you cant read signs that say STAY ON TRAIL WINTER WHEAT stay home. I would say you do not belong to a club and know how hard it is to get these trails and to have someone as stupid as you out there hurting it for all of us just stay off the trails

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – February 12, 2018

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 10-12 inches

Date of Report: February 12, 2018

Area Report:

Trail report for February 12, 2018, Good condition. Last night and early this morning we have groomed our entire trail system. It turned out very smooth, but we are down to very little snow left on the trail. There are bare and icy corners. There is very little snow in the active logging areas. There was heavy traffic over the weekend but is down to a minimum now. We are expected to have a warm up over the next few days and no snow in the forecast. This could degrade out trails rapidly. We will just have to wait to see how warm it will get. Please pray for snow! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.
