Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 12-14 inches

Date of Report: January 17, 2018

Area Report:

Conditions Good to Very Good

The conditions are the best we’ve seen all year. We have a solid base with a good amount of snow on top. Groomers have been out on all trails over the course of the week and we are classifying the entire trail system as good, but the further north you go the more snow you will find; the northern half of our trail system is considered very good. We are monitoring the temperatures for this weekend as currently Friday and Saturday are above freezing, we hope that with our base and minimal direct sun the trails will hold up. This Saturday we have a fundraiser at Eunica’s Beaver Lodge with an Italian buffet from 5 to 8pm, please come out and support our club as the money raised at these events assist with trail grooming. Be sure to check out trail 182 which has been groomed for the 1st time in 4 years and is in very good shape right now. Also, please remember to drive safe and at a controllable speed.

If you would like more information on the Mercer Area, please give us a call at 715-476-2389 or visit our website at mercercc.com. Think snow!

Area Report:

Trail report for January 17, 2018, GOOD to VERY GOOD condition. With the added snow there is enough snow to lay out a nice flat trail. I was out snowmobiling the last couple of days and experienced great conditions on our trail system. Our groomers have been out and doing a great job making sure your ride is very enjoyable. Thanks Groomers. Corners can be bare and icy. Use caution! The active logging operations have very little snow and trucks and large logging equipment can be on the trail. Be careful! Traffic will increase towards the weekend so always look out for other sleds on the trail. Use caution at intersections and road crossings. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Please note, certain trails or only segments of trails may be open at this time.  We anticipate frequent updates as the clubs begin grooming and report on trails they’ve checked. In all areas where winter recreation trails are closed, our clubs are actively working to get the trails open.

Date of Report: January 16, 2018

Area Report:

Braaaaap!

The Cable Area received a nice little surprise overnight… 6-8” of lake effect snow! Groomers were out yesterday hitting areas that needed it after weekend riding, and they plan to have the entire system groomed again by this weekend.

Trail bases are reported to be between 5-7” area-wide and trails are in good to very good condition.

Temperatures will be rising to mid-20-30s this week with more snow in the forecast for Sunday night into Monday. The Cable Area could see an additional 4-8” of snow with this system!

We have been informed the area lakes have high snow drifts if you venture off the stick trail. Please use caution and ride safely if you stray from the marked areas.

There is a detour on trail 90 between Old Grade and Federal Rd. due to logging. Please follow the signs.

We also have a trail closure at Trail 70 and Trail 73 due to trespass issues. Trail 70 East is closed at Randysek Rd. To get in and out of the downtown Cable area, please use Randysek Road from south of town to Spruce Street (cross Hwy M and go 1 block north), head West on Spruce to access the alleyway between Rondeau’s and Triple G; Hwy M is open from the alleyway to Rocky’s. This is a new reroute and will not be on your maps.

February, 1 help us break the Guinness Record for longest snowmobile parade.

We have a newly-plowed parking area at the beginning of Trail #8 under the International Bridge, which now has an all-season porta-john.

If you are staying in the Sault, please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business. Please do that in all the towns you visit. The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!

Remember, trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below, not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods. 10 inches of snow compresses to less than an inch on the trail.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 1 – 4 inches -Trail is in Good to excellent condition.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 1 – 4 inches -Trail is in excellent Condition. Watch for drifts in open areas.

When going across the bridge in Brimley, make sure you go with the flow of traffic!  Blowing and drifting occurs when you first leave Brimley.

Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 2 – 4 inches – Trail is in excellent to outstanding condition.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail is in good condition. Watch for wet areas going to Antlers. Trail is now groomed past the Casino down to the Antlers.

We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors.  It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449.  It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember, most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right-hand side of street not on sidewalks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 1 – 3 inches – Trail is in fair condition. No wet areas.

Make sure you follow the reroute once you cross bridge going south at 7 Mile Road.

When the trail is running along roads, make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –

Base 1- 3 inches – Trail in fair condition.  New snow did wonders.  Watch for trucks on trail.

Kinross to Raco & Rudyard, Parts of trail #472 & #480 –

  1. Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail in fair Condition. Watch for reroute signs just west of Kinross.  Trail to Rudyard has been groomed, but logging is going on, too.

Trail Report – : Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 16, 2018

Reporter:Oconto County Tourism

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 4-6

Date of Report: January 16, 2018

Area Report:

Snowmobile Trails
Red Arrow Townsend – Trails are OPEN. The Snow Dance Saturday night seems to have worked, but maybe we should have danced a while longer? It’s 3:42 PM as I type this and we have received 3″ of snow so far today. It’s a blessing though and definitely a step in the right direction. The groomers will be out tonight to work their magic on the newly fallen snow. Check back tomorrow to find out how they did.

Paul Bunyan Riders – Trails are open. The trails are in poor condition due to the warm weather and with rain today they will get worse. The railroad grade is mostly gravel and travel is not recommended. We wish we had better news. I will update conditions if anything changes. The weather is getting back below freezing tonight and very cold for the weekend.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club – Our trails are currently OPEN and in poor “Early Season Condition”. We got an inch or two of fluffy snow last night and today. Our trails are thin, hard, and icy in most areas now, with a couple inches of loose snow on top. Our groomers are out working to pack the new couple inches of snow down onto the trails, but they’re reporting it’s still pretty rough out there. The rain last week deteriorated our thin trail base and there are many sections with exposed gravel and/or rocks.

Riding is not recommended until we get more snow. We need snow to make the trails rideable again.

Ride at your own risk, and use extra caution- especially in these areas:

The section of trail north of Hwy W up to Mountain Lakes Rd near the Big Y (INT 320).

Watch for logging on the 18 Corridor trail west of Hwy 32.

The wooded trail from INT 455 to INT 472 (Old 64).

The pipeline trail from Jack Pine north to INT 447 is rough, but the pipeline trail from INT 447 north to Crooked Lake should be avoided- it is ungroomed and extremely rough.

The wooded trail between INT 453 behind the Junction east to Jack Pine Rd.

The 18 Corridor trail near Crooked Lake.

Expect some dips, rocks, branches, ruts, and bare spots. Low areas that froze may be icy under a thin layer of snow- and also may have rough broken up ice/dirt in the area. We are not grooming at this time- we desperately need more snow for conditions to improve . Slow down and use extra caution if you choose to ride. Always use caution riding on any lake or river. Ice conditions can be unpredictable and can vary greatly from lake to lake- or from one end of a lake to the other.

Bagley & Brazeau – The trails are from fair to poor condition. The trails in the woods are the best area to ride. The groomers have been out two days and will be out Friday also. Be sure to watch for the groomers on the trails. The marshes and wet areas need to freeze up more before they can get groomed. We do not know the condition of the Lakes so I would not ride on them at all.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – Trails are OPEN. Trails are in fair to poor condition and groomed. Corridor 7 heading south out of Gillett to Shawano will be closed until we get more snow. Remember early season conditions exist.

Oconto Falls Sno Jokers – Trails are CLOSED.
Lena – Trails are CLOSED.
Chase Sno-Chasers – Trails are CLOSED.

Trail Report – : Forest County, Wisconsin – January 16, 2018

Reporter:forestco

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2″ to 4″ base

Date of Report: January 16, 2018

Area Report:

With the recent snowfall there is a 2″ to 4″ base on the trails and they are in fair to good condition.

We cannot stress enough to RIDE SAFELY and RESPONSIBLY.  Trail conditions will vary greatly throughout the County.  Always use caution when riding on lakes and frozen water as ice conditions will vary.

The clubs that maintain the Forest County Trail System are made up of volunteers who work very hard to provide the best trails possible. Please respect them while on the trail. When approaching a groomer or member doing trail maintenance, please slow down and move over so they can do their job.
