With new snow at the end of last week, conditions have greatly improved across most of the area. Our corridor trails have been groomed repeatedly over the weekend, marsh areas have been getting packed, and we can safely say we have early/late-season conditions. New snow and a brief warm-up will only help cement our current base. With any help from Mother Nature, we should get these trails open for you soon!
TRAILS ARE NOT CURRENTLY OPEN YET!

Snow seems to be an elusive creature in the northwoods this year. Still no significant snowfall, which means all Price County trails remain closed. Temps are gradually warming up into the high 30’s by the end of the week. Our crews continue to be diligent in pulling the drag to pan and harden the trails.
In the meantime, take the opportunity to visit one of your favorite bar/restaurant businesses on the trail. They would love to see you!

Land trails are open but in poor condition with marginal snow, exposed rocks, and ruts. A few groomers have been out to do some panning and lay the snow flat, other than that, groomers will not be out until we get more snow. You can follow the groomer operations on the GTS app for the most up to date information.
Private property gates, specifically ones that cross swamps and waterways, are not open yet.
The cold weather has been helpful with lakes. Those lakes that are staked are:

Spider Lake

Chippewa Flowage (including the River and dam area)

Hey everyone, We are still waiting on snow here in Iron County and the nearby areas. Currently we have 4 to 5 inches of snow on the ground. Our clubs are not able to groom at this time due to lack of snow. Seems to be the story in several areas this season so far. Such odd weather this year… let’s all hope February and March will give us lots of snow to finish up our snowmobile season. We may have given up the first (2) months of riding this year… but let’s not give up on the last 2/months. 😉
This report will be updated on a weekly bases unless our conditions change. Be sure to check in on the report periodically to see if conditions have changed. 🙂
News and Reports:
Lakes should be good for Ice Fishing – In February Michigan offers a “FREE” Fishing weekend. This year the dates are February 17th & 18th. No License needed.
“Free” Michigan Snowmobile Weekend – February 9th, 10th & 11th. – No Permit needed to ride our trails.
Don’t forget Iron County has a wonderful Ski Resort – OPEN 100% – (Thursdays – Sundays)
“Winter” Waterfall Tours are another activity to try this winter. With the low snowfall… most waterfalls have easy access. Perfect year to give it a try.
We sure hope to see everyone soon this winter season… after all it’s “Our Time” to play!! We have 2/months left, let’s make the best of it. 🙂

The Vilas County Snowmobile Alliance meeting Wednesday evening, January 18. All 11 Clubs discussed the potential of opening the trails. The vote was NOT to open the trails at this time. Below is the PSA forwarded by the Parks and Rec Supervisor following the meeting.
All trails in Sno-Eagles Country were panned over the last few days. The Manske Swamp – Trail 3 and Wisconsin River Trail – 10W/13N are not being panned both areas need to freeze up harder. Both areas have been packed by snowmobiles and are good to go.
There have been re routes and closures of trails. Here’s a 2023-2024 Sno-Eagles trail map. Right click to enlarge.
