VILAS COUNTY TRAILS ARE OPEN
Snowmobile Trails Can Remain Open Until Midnight March 31st
Conditions permitting

Trail on average are FAIR. In town trails are POOR. What was very mushy & water is frozen at this point this morning. So conditions are really icy. Will softened up later as that evil sun will be out today. Many of the road trails for the most part have no snow on them. Especially those running north & south. Moving out of town conditions improve but it is a struggle to get to them without a bit of adventure sledding. In woods trails particularly way out east, north & southwest are FAIR with even some areas of GOOD but this is getting far & few between. Trailering & dropping off to ride might be good.

22 degrees already 6 miles east of Eagle River. Temps will be 40 for a high today with a low of 22 again tonight. Next chance for SNOW is Monday. An inch during the day with 1-3 over night is forecast. Stay tuned. Potential for a little more on Tuesday.

The section of the Chanticleer Inn Trail off of Trail 10E that takes riders to Eagle is mushy & wet at the entrance heading to the lake but is passable. Trail Boss is monitoring that area and will close if conditions continue.

Trail 1N logging operation continues in the section between the Town of Washington Town Hall & Eagle Lake. With the log piles and icy grainy conditions in that section it would be good to slow down. Minimal grooming due to the logging operation.

Catfish Lake Loop & Eagle Lake Trails are marked with orange easy to see reflective barrels. Please stay by the barrels to be safe. Reminder that the Catfish Lake Trail that ran from Braywood to Lumpy’s is not open. Please do not trespass on private land.

Trail Report – : Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice, Wisconsin – March 2, 2018

Price County snowmobile trails range from very good to poor condition. Trails in the woods have a good base and they are in good condition for spring riding, however, some corners may be icy, there may be bare spots in open areas, approaches at road crossing are becoming bare, and road routes are bare. Trails near towns are poor. With warm temps predicted, conditions can deteriorate quickly. Detailed trail condition reports can be view on our website at pricecountywi.net.

Some Price County trails are on private land. The use of the private land is a PRIVILEGE, not a right. Please stay on marked trails, especially across fields. There have been many complaints from landowners due to snowmobilers not staying on the trail and riding all over their fields. To avoid having these trails closed, PLEASE respect the private land that is open to snowmobiling.

Several miles of trail are open for winter ATV and UTV riding including the Flambeau Trail System, Solberg Trail, and Georgetown Trail. The Price County portion of the Pine Line Rail Trail (Prentice to Ogema), Snowmobile Trail 189 (Ogema to Timm’s Hill), and Snowmobile Trails 116, 181 and 118 (Prentice area loop) are also open to winter ATV and UTV riding when the trail is officially open to snowmobile use and the temperature is 28 degrees or colder.

All of the Washburn County snowmobile trails are OPEN! Trails are in great condition with a 7 to 10 inch base even after a few days of warmer weather. Please be aware that the base might be a little slim at road crossings with a snowy dirt mixture. Always use caution on the trails as volunteers are out grooming daily to keep them in the great condition they are already in. Enjoy the trails!

Area Report:

Groomers out overnight and trails in fair to good shape yet. They are icy and road shoulders are bare. Less snow base around Kinross area, without new snow they will not last much longer. With the high winds watch for newly fallen branches or trees!

We have a newly-plowed parking area at the beginning of Trail #8 under the International Bridge, which now has an all-season porta-john. Make sure you lock your vehicles and trailers.

If you are staying in the Sault, please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business. Please do that in all towns you visit. The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!

Remember, trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below, not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods. 10 inches of snow compresses to less than an inch on the trail.

Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

Base 1 – 4 inches -Trail is in fair to good condition.

Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 –

Base 2 – 4 inches -Trail is in good condition.

When going across the bridge in Brimley, make sure you go with the flow of traffic! Blowing and drifting occurs when you first leave Brimley.

Raco to Naomikong Trail #8 [where Paradise meets us], Trail #8 –

Base 2 – 5 inches – Trail is in good condition.

Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49 –

Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail is in fair to good condition. Trail is groomed past the casino down to the Antlers.

We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors. It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449. It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember, most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right-hand side of street not on sidewalks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

Sault Ste. Marie to Kinross, Trail #49 –

Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail is in fair to good condition.

Make sure you follow the reroute once you cross the bridge going south at 7 Mile Road.

When the trail is running along roads, make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494 –

Base 1- 2 inches – Trail is in poor to fair condition. Watch for trucks on trail.

Kinross to Raco & Rudyard, Parts of trail #472 & #480 –

Base 1 – 4 inches – Trail is in fair to good Condition. Watch for reroute signs just west of Kinross. Trail to Rudyard has been groomed, but logging going on, too.

The Downtown Trail is signed, and snow and barrels are on the Portage Ave. Bridge.

All public snowmobile trails in Langlade County are open.

With the warmer temperatures, expect early spring riding. The trials are generally fair to good. The trail conditions do vary across Langlade County, from poor to good. Bare spots are present in areas, particularly in the fields and exposed slopes in the wooded areas, along with some corners.

All public snowmobile trails in Langlade County are open to ATV’s, but ATV’s are not allowed on snowmobile trails when the temperature is above 28° F. UTV’s are not allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile trail system.

Trail report for March 2, 2018 Poor to Fair condition. The weather sure has not been good to us lately. We did receive a couple of inches of snow yesterday, but it won’t help all that much. It is expected to be in the 40’s over the weekend and it’s going to melt a lot of snow. We will have to see how bad it will get. The trails seem to be pretty good out in the woods but around town they are very bare and poor. We have our biggest fundraiser this Saturday at Gooch’s Bar- Cabin Fever Party. Please come out and join us for a lot of fun. We have a great dinner and a lot of prizes to win. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

All Lincoln County snowmobile trails are OPEN. The trails are being reported in POOR –GOOD condition. There still may be icy corners. Wooded trails are much better.

Please be aware of trail closed signs, stay on marked trails ONLY and respect private land. Use extreme caution and expect early season riding conditions throughout the trail system.

Trails designated as winter ATV trails in these areas are open for ATV use. All trails are closed for ATV use when the temperature is above 28 degrees F.

Oneida County Funded Snowmobile Trail System (as administered by the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department)are OPEN for the 2017-2018 winter season. The trails are in POOR-GOOD condition. There still may be icy corners. Wooded trails are much better.

As always, the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department recommends staying on clearly marked trails. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile. The trails can be in rough, early season condition. Snowmobilers are urged to stay on marked trails.

Temps for the next few days will be near 40 with lows in the 20’s. With our temp near 40 grooming will take place at night. Expect some rougher trails later in the day with traffic and grooming only at night. Use caution on corners they may be icy. Make sure you ride on your side of the trail, we want everyone to be safe.

PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS. WE HAVE BEEN GETTING COMPLAINTS THAT SOME HAVE NOT BEEN STAYING ON TRAILS, RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN LOSE EASEMENT FOR OUR TRAIL SYSTEM SO PLEASE STAY ON TRAILS!!!!!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY REPORTS:

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay US-2 Crossing is good. Watch for Icy corners as you head east out of Ironwood! As you depart Ironwood past Walmart heading east the horseshoe-turns around the Transfer Station are getting icy, please ride right & ride cautiously
The rail-bed trail ENDS on the east side of the Keystone Bridge. The club grooms the bridge to maintain it for local access. The “old” trail to Wakefield is closed east of Verona Road. Tickets will be issued if you ride on this closed trail.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is good. The trail has improved dramatically this week with all the fresh snow, but the corners are icy and by midday we expect the traffic to have swept the corners. There have been several near-miss accidents due to riders not riding on their side of the trail or blowing through icy corners. We need everyone to ride safely through there at a reasonable speed to keep everyone safe. The hill climbs to Indianhead Big Snow Resorts are snow packed and smooth.

Trail 2 from Wakefield to Marenisco is very good. There is active construction 5 miles east of Wakefield use caution. Watch for icy corners from Wakefield to US HWY. 2 trail crossing.

Trail 8 from Bingo’s to Tula Crossing is very good. The trail has lots of snow on it and is a wide seasonal county road that is not plowed and makes for a fun trail ride.

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River(WI) is good. This is a very scenic trail with spectacular views. ENJOY!! There is logging near the Lake Road area, please slow down, remember logging trucks have the right of way.

Trail 11S is good to good. The first 2 miles of the trail as it heads south towards Wisconsin from Trail 2 is plowed due to logging. Please yield to all commercial truck traffic. The trail is in great shape and is groomed from the Vilas County Wisconsin Line to Trail 2 completely, regularly. There are still a few thin areas and areas that need more brushing but the trail is fantastic.

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMER REPORT

Wednesday, February 28
Gogebic Area Groomers are reporting all trails right now to be in good to very good condition. Trails are very hard with all the thawing and freezing and there are some icy spots/corners. Groomers were out last night and every trail was groomed, and as long as temps drop below freezing – groomers will be able to get out. We’ve got a good base, our nights are cold. We are experiencing typical late season conditions – temps in the 30’s during the day and teens at night.

U.P. THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET GROOMERS REPORT:

Groomers ran the whole trail system Tuesday the 27, our trail conditions range from very good to poor. Poor areas are around town and on roadside trails
Trail 2 east of Watersmeet – to the 107 – poor – snirty/dirty as you leave watersmeet
Trail 3 south of Watersmeet to WI – good -this trail gets tons of traffic and it gets rough between groomings use caution over the bridges
Trail 3 north of trail 2 to bond falls – fair – with icy/dirty corners
Trail 3 north of Bond falls – good with icy corners
Trail 2 west of Watersmeet – good – there is a wet area about 20miles west of Watersmeet where water is on the trail there are signs so please use caution
Trail 13 south of trail 2 – good with icy corners

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RIDING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN THE CLUB LOSING EASEMENT OF THAT TRAIL AND YOU POSSIBLE GETTING A TICKET…..

With about 2-3 inches of new snow yesterday morning our trails
along with most other area trails are in good to very good condition.
Temps are forecast to be in the low 40’s for the next few days and in
the mid 20’s at nite.Trails in the woods should remain in good condition
those trails around towns are thin so be cautious.
