Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 2 to 12 inches

Date of Report: January 10, 2019

Area Report:

General County Report:
Some recent light snowfall was preceded by warmer temperatures and light rain. Combine that with the current cold temperatures and trail conditions are highly variable, with hard bases and icy conditions being reported throughout the county. Use extra caution when out on the trails. Some swamp crossings may still not be frozen and there are some trails that have only received minimal amounts of grooming. Approach all wet areas with extra caution and be prepared to turn around if the crossing appears suspicious. Be wary of low hanging branches, wet areas, downed trees and/or limbs, and other similar hazards that may compromise the trail. Use extra caution, be prepared to turn around or find an alternate route and stay on the trails!

See below for area specific reports. For the most up to date report of trail conditions, please contact the local snowmobile club.

Drummond Snojacks: all trails will be groomed before the weekend. In general, the trails are snow and ice covered and in good to fair condition. Very little snow cover on sections of trail in the Mason area. Very little snow cover on portion of Trail 63 north of Grand View through the Bibon Swamp. There will not be any grooming through the Bibon until conditions improve. Trial 63 South is rerouted on to Lake Owen Station road for 3 miles.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: 2 to 4 inch base. All trails are groomed (with exception of bigger marshes). Trails are in fair to good condition.

Valhalla Area: All the trails in the Valhalla area are groomed and in good to very good condition.

Iron River Area: Trails in Iron River area are in the process of being groomed until noon Friday, January 11th, including the Tri-County Corridor. Even after the warmer weather and rain they are turning out very nice. The base is hard and icy, so, as always, please use caution.

Frosty’s Vintage Riders (Mason/Delta Area): trails in the Mason/Delta area are thin but rideable, with an icy base. Trails in this area need more snow. Grooming will resume when conditions improve. Be extra cautious when approaching icy corners.

South Shore Trail Club (Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia Areas): Trail 1 from Herbster east to 41, 40, have been groomed and are in good to excellent condition. Trail 1 east of 41 has only been groomed once and requires more brushing. All trails are rideable, but please use extra caution.

Barnestormers (Barnes Area): trails were all groomed last week and held up well, even with the previous warm weather. However, a day of rain has turned them all to ice, so conditions are highly variable. We won’t be grooming until there is more snow. Trail 31 just north of Mulligan Creek Road has a water crossing. Trail 31 south of Mulligan Creek Road remains closed until a few repairs are completed and conditions improve (more snow).
Waino Riders (Northwest Corner of the County): Trail 1 from Brule to Highway 13 has been groomed and will be groomed again for the weekend. Trails are in good condition.

Washburn Valhallers: Trail 13 North from Washburn to Valhalla is hard snow covered with a few icy areas. We will regroom this Friday and expect that, even after the slight warm up, the trails will still be in good riding condition for the weekend. Trail 13 South from Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor is hard and icy, with a few bare spots. We will regroom this trail today (January 9th), and expect it to be rideable, but thin with a few bare spots, for the weekend.

News and Reports:

Closures:
Trail 31S – South of Mulligan Creek Road is closed due to culverts out and trees downed.

Trail 63 in the Cable Area: Trail 63 just south of the intersection with Trail 70 south of the town of Cable is closed until further notice.

Snowmobile Trail Report 1/10/2019

Fifield Sno Drovers
The Sno Drovers’ trails in the Pike Lake area are in better shape than the thin snow cover would suggest. I would rate them as fair to good. We have been grooming and the trails are generally smooth and hard. That being said, RIDE CAUTIOUSLY! There are rocks, dips and other hazards that normally would be covered with snow on the trails. I suspect the snow will not hold up well to heavy traffic so there is no telling how they will be after the weekend. We will continue grooming as we’re making the trails better, but at some point , if we don’t get snow, we’re better off not grooming since we’ll be pulling up rocks and shaving off what snow there is.

Logging continues on trail 120 south of the big swamp and Fould’s Creek Rd and on Trail 108 between Trail 101 and highway 70. Take these slowly and expect icy conditions and logging equipment. There is a small creek running across Trail 101 west of Northernaire/FR144. It is marked with a barrel and will not be a problem as long as you take it slow. We hear there is open water in Iron County on corridor 19 just off our Trail 106.

Eisenstein Bushwackers and The Sno Gypsies
Yesterday groomed 80 from Boyer road to Lake shore drive Today we groomed 89-90-91 all swamps are packed and frozen There are a couple wet areas that are very sort Like less than 10 feet. There really were only 2 spots out of all our trails. Trails are pretty good for the snow we have received so far. The Toscobia getting groomed this evening. Enjoy our trail system Thank you from the gypsies

I rode the rails last night and the trails are in decent shape. Still would like to see some additional snow to make them great but still fun. The groomers are doing a fantastic job with what they have to work with.

Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 1-10-19

Well for those of you that are thinking about a possible trip to the Northwood’s it is time to pack those bags and load them sleds! We are without a doubt heading into the best riding so far this season this upcoming weekend!

With the wet 4 to 5 inches of snow last Sunday night and into Monday, theCruisers have taken full advantage and groomed our trails into their best condition this season. Along with some colder temperatures and some light lake affect this week Cruisers trails are looking very good!

Trail 3 very good, trail 5 is fair to good, trail’s 10, 11,17,47,51, and the Bear Skin are all very good! We hope to get through the one small swampy area remaining on trail 17 with the groomer tonight. Trail 70 in town received some love yesterday morning and was groomed the best it could be for the conditions. Hopefully we can continue to improve this trail weekly with more snow.

Lake Minocqua remains unmarked and considered very dangerous near the south west side of the Hwy 51 Bridge! Please avoid this area! This area is being monitored by many and does look to be improving but as of this writing it is still deemed unsafe for snowmobile traffic. Let`s all be safe out there and hope this area improves to a safe condition soon! All of the other Lakes in the Cruisers area are marked, please stay by the markers!

Don`t forget about the Cruisers Winterfest fundraiser this weekend, we are located just off of trail 17, 51 by Big Arbor Vitae Drive. Stop and say HI, we will have plenty of food drink and raffles! Also the WKSRA Kitty Kat Races will be going on all day! These young boy`s and girl`s really get into this amazing sport and are a ton of fun to watch!

We look forward to seeing all of you out enjoying our trails and please Ride Right Ride Safe!!

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Early Season Riding with GOOD to FAIR conditions

January 10, 2019 6:24am – 10 degrees – High of 19

More light SNOW yesterday along with more Lake Effect Snow. This with cold days & nights is terrific!  Building SNOW makes for great trail conditions.  Most trails are in GOOD CONDITION.  It’s Thursday & traffic is light.  Good time to ride. New to the area? Contact Sno-Eagles President, Howard Wolf.  Club has Wednesday & Thursday rides.  262.442.4876.

There is ice under the SNOW on the trails not just in the corners.  At road crossings saw some areas with snirt.  The roads are sanded & sleds carry that sand up onto the trail for a short distance. Have reports of a few bumpy areas.  Groomers are working on those areas.

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  So heading out east you are on the south side of the road.  Heading back into town heading west you are on the north side of the road.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  This can be dangerous.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Also there is a dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

***FOREST COUNTY TRAILS OPEN AT NOON TODAY.
THURSDAY JANUARY 10, 2019***

Continue DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE & THINK COLD!

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4 to 5 inches in most areas

Date of Report: January 9, 2019

Area Report:

TRAIL IS OPEN…EARLY SEASON RIDING:

Groomers were all out today.  They covered the entire trail system.  Rating the conditions of the trail varies throughout …from one section to another.  The rain hurt more areas than others.  We will try to break the trail down in sections so you may be able to choose where and what you ride on.

From Crooked Lake to Silver Cliff:  This is mostly good, but there are some areas that are fair due to ruts from vehicle traffic in the soft slushy snow.

Our Central Section which follows Parkway Road:  This is mostly in fair condition.

Newton Lake Area:  This is in fair condition

River Trail:  The River Trail itself is in good to fair condition, however, the area from the landfill to Buschman Farms is the least amount of snow in the trail system.  So reaching the River Trail from the south end will be tough.  There is a plowed field there that basically is poor.

Throughout the trail system you will find areas that are just ice…so use extreme caution when riding.

The trail is basically flat.  All we need is a little more snow.  The groomers will continue going out this week/weekend as needed.

Ride Safe and Do the Snow Dance…
