Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 9, 2019

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-10

Date of Report: January 9, 2019

Area Report:

Trail report for January 9, 2019 – Overall Fair for early season riding. With the additional much needed snow we got Monday really helped our groomers smooth out the trails. There has been minimum traffic during the early to mid-week and the colder temps has stiffened up our base. The base is still very thin. We can always use some more snow. I’m expecting more traffic starting on Thursday so we will be out grooming trying to do the best we can do with what we have got. If we keep getting more snow and the colder temps remain, we will be fine. Please use caution in all areas. The corners and many other spots are bare and icy. Pray for Colder temps and more snow. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Reporter:Matt Winters

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-6″

Date of Report: January 9, 2019

News and Reports:

Trails in Sugar Camp have improved this week with a few inches of snow Monday. Groomers have been back out panning and getting things back in shape. Most swampy areas have been gone through although there is a few areas that have not been gone through yet letting them freeze up well. These are short sections that will have to be tolerated for the time being. These areas will be rough so maintain slow speeds in these areas. All lakes are marked & safe to cross with orange barrels & stay close to the barrels while crossing. Remember all intersections are marked with 3 digit numbers  for your safety & in case of emergency to pinpoint your exact location. Nightime speed limits of 55 mph are required. Remember to purchase your annual trail passes & support a club. United we trail divided we fail!!

SW Quadrant

We have a lot of slush on the trails, got rain rather than snow in most areas over the past few days.

Trail 5 remains in fair condition, we need cold and snow. We have had several guys out on 9 clearing many trees, the trail has a lot of water, trying to pack, but we need cold weather to freeze down the swamps, we do not feel comfortable opening 9 at this point.

All other trails closed at this time

SE Quadrant

All trails are open with the exception of Trail 41N from the Wild Rivers Trail north to the warming shack. The club is working on a re-route around an unfrozen portion of swamp which will utilize the Tom Green Road. The re-route is anticipated to be completed before the weekend, look for updates.

All open trails were groomed last week and are extremely icy at this time. Additional grooming is scheduled for this week watch for updates.

Trail 217 – Poor Condition but mostly smooth, Icy base, not grooming until we get snow
Trail 17N – from Cabin Lane to Fowler Circle, Poor Condition but mostly smooth, Icy base, not grooming until we get snow
Trail 17S – south of Fowler Circle to Highway 27, OPEN, Poor Condition rough, Icy base, not grooming until we get snow – Snowmobile only. Hopefully opening to ATV once we get colder conditions to freeze up some slushy areas
Trail 3 was groomed last week but is currently very icy

Area Report:

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Early Season Riding with FAIR-GOOD conditions

January 9, 2019 7:10 – 10 degrees – High of 14

Trails have really improved.  Lake Effect Snow yesterday & this will continue off & on all week.  This with cold days & nights is terrific!  Building SNOW makes for great trail conditions.  Most trails are in GOOD CONDITION.

Groomers headed out to groom last night around 6pm.  Saw a groomer on Trail 10E.  Looked like one had headed north as well.

Ice under the SNOW makes for slippery conditions.  So might want to slow down if you feel your track slipping.

Reminder that in Sno-Eagles Country there are 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  So heading out east you are on the south side of the road.  Heading back into town heading west you are on the north side of the road.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  This can be dangerous.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 4 to 5 inches in most areas

Date of Report: January 8, 2019

Area Report:

TRAILS ARE OPEN!

Contrary to popular belief, the Iron Snowshoe is west of Crivitz and our trails are snow covered and OPEN!  We received 6 plus inches of snow yesterday in most areas.  Then it did turn to rain, but we are NOT washed out!  We survived the rain and still have 4 to 5 inches of snow here.  In fact, it is snowing again right now!  The low tonight is supposed to be 15 degrees, so all three groomers will be out early tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.  We expect heavy traffic this weekend…Our groomers have the right of way…expect early season riding…icy corners and icy conditions in general…

Ride Safe…
