Trails are still in good shape . Trail 12 on the high line is still rough due to lack of snow.  Corners are getting burned out throughout the day so be careful for icing corners.  Trail 12 that runs behind the cemetery is still closed as the swamp is still not frozen completely.  I have been packing it will continue with the cold weather coming so hopefully I can open it soon for snowmobile traffic. Busy, busy weekend….lots of traffic out on the trails and lot of visitors in town.    We’ll start out this post by saying that we’ve had reports of snowmobilers blowing through some of the stop signs on the railroad grade and in Bergland.   Not good.  Don’t be careless.  Not even once.

That said – we can talk about our trails – which are pretty dang good right about now.

  • Corridor trail (1&8) North of Bergland was groomed overnight as was Trail 1 North and Trail 8 West all reported as good with the exception of a water hole about 2 miles out of Merriweather..

  • Trail 8 East – very good until close to Ewen where there’s less snow and small rocks showing.
  • Trail 102 also groomed during the night – reported to be very good.
  • Trail 13N was groomed yesterday – good to excellent
  • Trail 13S from Root Cellar to trail 2 – good to excellent.
  • Trail 1North:       Trail 1 N from Bergland and the North Shore of Lake Gogebic reported to be in very good condition.
  • Trail 1 South:   to Presque) recently groomed.  Good condition, however, gets thin South of Marenisco.  Groomed from Marenisco North to West Side Resort where the trail ends for now.  Option is to hop on lake and continue North about 4 mi north, then get off the lake and follow signs to where you can pick up trail system again.

It’s going to be a cold weekend, so make sure you are packing your base layer and face masks!

Trail Report – : Crivitz, Wisconsin – January 14, 2019

Reporter:ironsnowshoe

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4 to 5 inches in most areas

Date of Report: January 14, 2019

Area Report:

We had a great weekend.  Lot of people riding.  Great to see you all out there.  Most people were surprised at how good the trails actually were.  Its that good flat ice base that is basically keeping everything smooth.  We were able to put on over 250 miles throughout the weekend…leaving from Crooked Lake.  Conditions really have not changed.  Trails north of Hwy C and western part of the system and down toward Crooked Lake seem to have the most snow on them.  The mid section in the Twin Bridge Area, still has a hard snow base also.  There is less snow, but it is rideable.  The Newton Lake area remains the same with good riding there.  The southeastern corner has the least amount of snow.  There is a plowed field there, so not much can be done with it.  The groomers were all out yesterday again throughout the entire trail system.  Just an effort to make the trails nice with almost nothing to work with.

WE NEED SNOW!!!

The Manitowish Waters trail system is a unique hub network directly linking into 5 other trail systems. With Minocqua/Woodruff to our south, St. Germain/Eagle River to our southeast, Lake Gogebic to our north, Presque Isle/Winchester to our northeast, Mercer and Hurley to our northwest and Lac du Flambeau/Price County to our west, our area residents and guests can choose from a variety of daily or overnight destinations for scenic riding with excellent pit stops along the way.

The Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters maintain an active grooming schedule for the area’s trail system. Coordinated efforts with the surrounding communities provide continuous smoothly-groomed trails in this northwest sector. The Sno-Skeeters own and operate some of the newest grooming equipment on the market today.
