Area Report:

Taconite/David Dill State Trail
Snow: 14-22”
Base: 1-4”
Groomed: Yes
Condition: Fair to Good
The entire Taconite is groomed and in fair to good condition. A few miles toward Ely from the Wolftrack GIA trail is a small area of open water on one side of the trail. Caution signs are up. Use caution in general in swamps and areas with moving water as ice is still thin in spots. Also, the trailbase between Tower and Ely is relatively thin, and logging is happening just west of Hwy 1, south of Ely.
The spur trail leading from the Taconite to the Oasis Bar and Grill in Britt has been rerouted due to landowner issues. The reroute goes from the Taconite east of Hwy 53 (opposite side from the Oasis) to Peppard Rd, crosses Hwy 53 at the Peppard Rd Jct, and follows the ditch south to Peel Rd and to the Oasis.
Putnam/Fishing Lakes Trail
is groomed and in fair condition. These trails will be groomed again before the Fun Run snowmobile ride this weekend.
Lake Vermilion- Soudan Underground Mine State Park Trail
are groomed and in fair condition.
Tomahawk Trail – From Ely to Knotted Pine is partially groomed and groomers are hoping to have the trails completely groomed before the weekend. Burntside to Mud Lake is groomed but Mud Lake to Vermilion is not. Teams hope to have everything groomed within the next week.
Arrowhead State Trail
Snow: 14-22”
Base: 2-5”
Groomed: Yes
Condition: Fair to Good
The entire Arrowhead is groomed and in fair to good condition. Use caution in the vicinity of the Elephant Creek trail bridge because of thin ice. There is also a small section of open water/thin ice on the side of the trail in the Lost Lake swamp area (just north of Hwy 1).

Trail Report – : Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin – January 16, 2019

Reporter:Manitowish Waters Chamber

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 6″ – 10″

Date of Report: January 16, 2019

Area Report:

Manitowish Waters trails are in good condition. The trails have a good, solid base. Chance of snow flurries this week. Watch the corners as they may be icy from the heavier traffic this week.

Had a great ride on Mani trails: 6 and 8. Rode North across the Turtle Flambeau Flowage to Camp 1 (Murrays landing, trail 21, had good snow coverage) rode up to Bear chasers on trail 9A it was plowed but enough white stuff to keep cool. Trail 15 up to Iron Belt was awesome as well as trail 8 back to The Yukon. The Grade was better than I thought it would be considering the weekend traffic. It’s holding up good. REMEMBER TO RIDE RIGHT, USE YOUR HAND SIGNALS, BEWARE OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC, RESPECT OUR LANDOWNERS AND STAY ON THE MARKED TRAILS.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-8 inches

Date of Report: January 16, 2019

Area Report:

Trail report for January 16, 2019 – Trails good to fair. On the trails last night, the snow was very soft and mushy. We had warmer temps and freezing rain. With the colder temps today and hopefully for the rest of the week the trails should stiffen up and stay flat for a longer time. We expect heavier traffic towards the weekend. If we would get a few inches of lake effect snow every few days and colder temps that would help improve our conditions but there is no snow in the forecast throughout the weekend. With the low amount of snow on the trails the corners and other areas it can be bare and icy. Please use extreme caution. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

TRAIL REPORT 2018-2019 SEASON

Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 1-15-19

Wow a busy weekend it was! It was great seeing all the riders this past weekend and we certainly appreciate all of you that stopped by the Cruisers Winterfest and said Hi.   We had a great turnout and a very successful event! For sure it was some of the best riding so far this season.

The Cruisers and their great groomer volunteers have been busy and happy to report our trails held up very well. There are some thin areas and some icy corners but overall trails remain in good to very good condition.

Trail 3 is good to very good, trail 5 is fair to good, trails 6,10,11,17,47,51 and the Bear Skin are all good to very good. Trail 70 in town is fair to good. Please use caution in the corners and stay to the right.

Lake Minocqua remains unmarked at this time but conditions continue to improve near the Hwy 51 Bridge. With the colder temperatures forecasted for the end of this week and into the weekend there is hope that this area will improve to a safe condition.

Please avoid the south west side of the Hwy 51 Bridge a little longer. All other lakes in the Cross Country Cruisers area are marked please stay by the markers!

Again use some caution in the corners and stay to the right!

Ride Right Ride Safe!! There is a good possibility that lake Minocqua will be marked this weekend so I will update as soon as possible, stay tuned

Trail Report – : Eagle River, Wisconsin – January 16, 2019

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: Pretty much everything SNOW covered.

Date of Report: January 16, 2019

Area Report:

EAGLE RIVER SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Still Early Season Riding & FAIR to GOOD
Let’s Help The Groomers out it’s SNOW DANCIN TIME!

January 16, 2019 6:55am – 9 degrees – High of 14

Well the temps dropped.  Near 30 yesterday.  High of 14 today.  Groomers were out last night panning the mushy snow that was on the trails yesterday from the warmer temps & sleet over the last couple of days.  Should be smooth & frozen this morning.

Some SNOW showers early this morning.  Snow off & on for the next week.  Looks like maybe 1 inch or so every few days.

Yesterday the trails were pretty mushy everywhere.  Riding especially in the woods wasn’t half bad.  There is SNOW pretty much everywhere.

Heading out east the snow cover was harder & rough in spots.  Need new fresh SNOW for the groomers to work with. Section between Bloom Rd to Loon Rd is icy & snirty in many areas.

South from town there is good SNOW cover on “the grade” and a pretty far distance down.  From the area where you come out of the woods & ride Bloom Rd for a short distance to back in the woods was mostly SNOW covered but choppy.  The frozen swampy section was frozen early but rough.  Need fresh SNOW.

West the section from the road crossing by the Lincoln Town Hall is icy & snirty until you get out farther.  When you cross over to the north side of the road by Eagle River Inn it gets better.  Riding not bad after that with the exception of the high hill on the north side across from the Wisconsin River.  Dropping down onto 7/17S to the “Paintball field” to go west was good.

Coming back on 10/13 it was snirty, icy, choppy & thin in spots.  Other sections were SNOW covered. The Wisconsin River bridge area was icy & a little mushy.

Road crossings are snirty from road sand & where there are icy inclines.

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Also there is a dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

Continue DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE & THINK COLD!

See ya on the trails again soon!

The area experienced unseasonably warm temperatures and rain over the weekend which reduced the trail base in areas and caused icy conditions now that the temperatures have dropped once again. The clubs continue to work on hanging limbs and bent saplings from the winter strom two weeks ago.  Please use caution on all trails.
