Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – January 18, 2019

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 3-8”

Date of Report: January 18, 2019

Area Report:

Here are your current conditions:
With a dusty of new snow of the past few days it did whiten things up and add some lubrication for the slides that is much needed. This will be a very busy weekend. Our groomers will be out nightly. All trails are now open and groomed. Trails are holding up well with the snow that we have. Lots of icy corners, so make sure your carbides are fresh. More snow in the woods with a few bare spots closer to town. We will be out nightly working with the snow that we have.

Lakes are all marked. Remember, stay as close to the barrels as possible. If you don’t see barrels, assume they are not safe.

Please respect our private landowners and stay on the trail. We have had a couple issues this year already and it always puts our trails in danger.

Use caution at all road crossing as they are icy.

Check our Facebook page for information about the poker run this weekend.

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: Hard base & snow covered – Plenty of Lake Effect yesterday in the afternoon

VILAS COUNTY TRAILS TO INCLUDE SNO-EAGLES TRAILS ARE OPEN!
Still Early Season Riding Trails Good to Fair

January 18, 2019 6:38am – 5 below – High of 10

Another day of cold.  This will continues through Monday.  Single digits or teens during the day.  Below zero or single digits at night.  Groomers out last on trails east, north & south. Some grooming. More panning.  Met the groomer on 10E last night about 8:45pm when returning from a Club meeting.

Lake Effect SNOW off & on all day yesterday.  Snowed most of the late afternoon out east & northeast.  Takes a lot of Lake Effect to amount to any totals.  Out east about 1- 1 1/2 inches.  Northeast much more.  In town looked to be less than an inch.  Never know about the Lake Effect start DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE to bring that SNOW down from over Lake Superior.

All in all the trails need more SNOW.  Best riding is heading east, northeast, north, far northwest, south & southeast.  All are SNOW covered. From Eagle River 10E is very snirty & rough from Loon Lake Rd through the woods to Bloom Rd.  It improves in the 1 way section at the Sports Arena all the way out to Phelps & Three Lakes trail connects.  That is both ways. Out & back.

Heading south 3/13S aka “the grade” it good until the sections where you come out onto Bloom Rd. Icy, snirty & rough areas.  No word or report on the trails into Three Lakes.

Heading north with all the traffic 3/13N aka “the grade” is SNOW covered but the section after you cross Adams Rd is rough.  Needs more SNOW to fix that.  West on 10/13 aka Wisconsin River Bridge there are good & rough areas.  Icy at the bridge. 17N has is a mixed bags of riding.  Same with 1 that heads to Eagle Lake from the north.

The trails heading west are thin.  That starts at the Town of Lincoln Town Hall to close to the Eagle River Inn.  When you cross over to the north side of the road to cross the Rec Bridge.  Improves there.  Heading south on 7/17S it’s pretty good to the turn onto 7 aka the Paint Ball Field. In the woods on 7S good. Heading south on 17S was very mushy.  Cold last night should have changed that.  Heading west on 70 thin until after you cross Hwy 70W neat Zeman Rd.  Snow covered on the south side of the road.  Thins out when you cross over to the north side of the road.  The high hill on the north side across from the Wisconsin river is icy & snirty.

Going to see snirt at the road crossings. Plenty of sanding was done on the roads. Same for many road trails.  It is icy underneath everywhere so slow down.

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.  Do not drift away from the barrels as it is not safe to do so.  Remember not all lakes have trails so if you don’t see marker do not ride on it to be safe.  These are the only 2 lakes that are marked in Sno-Eagles Country.  No other lake trails.

Also there is a dusk to dawn speed limit of 55 MPH.

Continue DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE & THINK COLD!

See ya on the trails tonight!

Trail Report – : Ashland County, Wisconsin – January 17, 2019

Reporter:info@visitashland.com

Trail Conditions: Poor

Snow Cover: 2-8 inch base

Date of Report: January 17, 2019

Snowmobile Information:

Trails in Ashland County are open, except the trail from Marengo north to the East end of Ashland, that section is closed.  Trails are being groomed from Marengo South.  North of Marengo is not being groomed at this time.  There is a detour on 77 by Cayuga.  Detour is posted.  Conditions at this time are rough.  Watch out for open water in spots. Ride at your own risk.
As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations. Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open. As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.

The Tri-County Corridor is OPEN but conditions are poor at this time for riding.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 17, 2019

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 2 to 12 inches

Date of Report: January 17, 2019

Area Report:

General Countywide Report:
Trail conditions remain highly variable, with hard bases and icy conditions being reported throughout the county. Use extra caution when out on the trails. Some swamp crossings may still not be frozen and there are some trails that have only received minimal amounts of grooming. Approach all wet areas with extra caution and be prepared to turn around if the crossing appears suspicious. Be wary of low hanging branches, wet areas, downed trees and/or limbs, and other similar hazards that may compromise the trail. Use extra caution, be prepared to turn around or find an alternate route and stay on the trails!

See below for area specific reports. For the most up to date report of trail conditions, please contact the local snowmobile club.

Drummond Snojacks: all trails will be groomed before the weekend, with the exception of 63 north of Grand View. Trails are in fair to good condition, with hard packed snow and ice. Trail 63 and Trail 4, north of Grand View in the Mason area, continue to be rideable, however, snow cover is very light. There are some bare areas in the Bibon Swamp. As a reminder to trail users, most of the trails in the Mason area are on private property. Please stay on the trail. Don’t cut corners or look for shortcuts.

Namakagon Trail Groomers:  2 to 4 inch base. All trails are groomed (with exception of bigger marshes). Trails are in fair to good condition.

Valhalla Area: Trails in the Valhalla area remain in good to very good condition. Trail 63 spur trail from USFS to Corridor to Trail 31 is no longer being groomed until we receive more snow. Trail 1 North of Valley Road in Bayfield has open water but you can get around it to get to the casino.

Iron River Area: Iron River area trails are in good condition with the exception of Trail 4 from the Tri-County Corridor to the Mason area. Trail 4 has been groomed, but has very thin base. It is rideable, but expect some icy or bare spots. All other trails have a hard base with some icing on the corners and hills.

Frosty’s Vintage Riders (Mason/Delta Area): trails in the Mason/Delta area are thin, with some bare spots, but rideable, with a hard and icy base. Be extra cautious when approaching icy corners and hills.

South Shore Trail Club (Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia Areas): Trail 1 west of 41 is in good condition. Trail 1 east of 41 is currently in fairly rough shape, but is scheduled to be groomed on 1/17 and will be in good condition. All trails are rideable, but please use extra caution.

A portion of Trail 40 (Wally Polk) was recently plowed, but is still open. If riding this section of trail be aware of logging activity, including haul trucks. To get to Port Wing, an alternate route would be Trail 43 to Trail 66 to Trail 3.

Barnestormers (Barnes Area):  all trails in the Barnes area have been groomed and are holding up well despite the general lack of new snow. The trail conditions improve when heading further north. Trail 31 south of Mulligan Creek Road remains closed until a few repairs are completed and conditions improve (more snow).

Waino Riders (Northwest Corner of the County): Trail 1 from Brule to Highway 13 remains in good shape, with some icy stretches.

Washburn Valhallers: Trail #13 North from Washburn to Valhalla area was groomed 1/15 and remains in good shape. The base is much thinner when closer to Washburn, but rideable. Expect a few icy corners and only a few bare spots.

Trail #63 (Moquah Spur) was groomed 1/15 and is in decent condition; the base is very thin in spots closer to the Tri-County Corridor, but still rideable.

Trail #33 from Valhalla to the Spur was also groomed 1/15 and remains in good shape. Trail #31 North from the Spur to the top of Valhalla is being groomed on 1/16 and will be in good to very good condition.

Trail #13 South from Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor will be touched up on 1/17. It is thin with a few bare spots, but has a mostly solid, flat base.

News and Reports:

Cross Country Cruisers Trail Report 1-17-19

The trails are holding up pretty well considering the lack of new snow fall.  The riders are enjoying them.

Got out and rode some myself this week, enjoyed the ride, and appreciated all the surrounding clubs efforts to keep the trails in good to very good shape.

Yes there are some areas that are thin on snow and there is definitely some icy corners but overall some pretty nice riding.

The Cruisers have been busy grooming their trails as well and have done a great job of pulling in the corners and trying to put snow back on the icy areas. The colder temperatures forecasted for this weekend I believe the trails will hold up to an anticipated very busy weekend.

Trail 3 is good to very good, trail 5 is fair to good, and trails 6, 10,11,17,51 and the Bear skin are good to very good. Trail 70 in town is fair to good.

We expect a lot of traffic this weekend so as the weekend goes on trails may show the wear and tear. Please use caution in the corners, many of them have become icy and stay to the right!

NOW LISTEN UP FOLKS, Lake Minocqua is being marked this morning. The lake trail will be marked slightly different than in the years past through the area near the Hwy 51 Bridge or down town area some may call it.

There will be some extra barrels used to mark this trail and we ask that you all STAY NEXT TO THE BARRELS AND MARKERS!!

This has been an ongoing concern this year and we certainly appreciate the businesses and individuals that have monitored this and have helped make this Lake trail available to us all!!

PLEASE folks ride smart and stay by the markers!!

All other Lakes in the Cruisers area are marked and please stay next to the markers!

It is going to be busy with the three day weekend for many and the World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River so please let’s all use some extra caution out there and ride safe!

Ride Right Ride Safe!

Trail Report – : Oconto County, Wisconsin – January 17, 2019

Reporter:Oconto County Tourism

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 3-7

Date of Report: January 17, 2019

Area Report:

Red Arrow Snowmobile Trails (Townsend) – It’s 16 degrees in beautiful downtown Townsend this evening. Sorry for the late report, but even I went for a ride today! Put on 106.7 miles and this is what we found. The trails east of Hwy 32 are in GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION. The Nicolet State Trail ( The Grade ) is very icy in spots so be careful! I would say that it is in GOOD TO VERY CONDITION. The trails west of town toward Hwy 64& T are in GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION on the level trails. In the hills it is still FAIR TO POOR. We still need more snow there for covering the rocks. The trails are starting to show wear with no new snow in the forecast, as long as there is material to work with, we will continue to groom.

Paul Bunyan (Lakewood) – Groomers are back after grooming the trails Sunday night. Trail Boss Bob Prasser rates them as good to very good. We have a good base and hopefully the next 2 days don’t get to warm. Starting Wednesday the temperatures are going to go below freezing so grooming will resume. The guys did a great job keeping the trails in great shape with the huge amount of traffic we had. Ride safe

Chute Pond Snowmobile Trails (Mountain) – Chute Pond trails are open. Trails are panned and in early season condition, meaning to watch for dips and ruts that will need more snow to fill in. There may also be some icy areas. Riding is not advised on the NST south of Hwy 32 to Suring and also the route through Suring to Golf Course Rd due to low snow cover. The pipeline trail may not be groomed until the low spots freeze up more- use extra caution if you ride in that area. Watch for groomers on the trail anytime of day or night, and always yield the right of way to them. Enjoy your ride!

Bagley and Brazeau Joyriders Snowmobile Trails –  Sections of the BB Joyriders trails are open. Trails south of Hwy Z are closed and east of Parkway Rd, up to Hwy 64 are closed. Intersections 408, 425 are closed to the south. This means Kelly Lake and Lee Lake areas are closed.  Trails are closed to Suring and Klondike. There is no snow on any of the lakes including White Potato Lake.  They are all bare ice.

Trails that are open surround White Potato Lake and to the north.  All these trails have not been groomed and have many icy areas.  Early season riding conditions are poor at this time.  Remember, there is no snow on any of the lakes.  The snow is very hard on the top surface of the trails, if the weather changes, they may improve.

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 3″ to 4″ base

Date of Report: January 17, 2019

Area Report:

The trails have a 3″ to 4″ base and are in fair to good condition.

We cannot stress enough to RIDE SAFELY and RESPONSIBLY. Trail conditions vary greatly throughout the County.  Always use caution when riding on lakes and frozen water as ice conditions will vary.

The clubs that maintain the Forest County trail system are made up of volunteers who work very hard to provide the best trails possible.  Please respect them while on the trail. When approaching a groomer or member doing trail maintenance, please slow down and move over so they can do their job.
