Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 6-10 inches

Date of Report: January 28, 2019

Area Report:

Trail report for January 28, 2019 – Trails are good. Over the weekend we had bitter cold and not much snow. The traffic for the weekend was moderate. The trails remained flat for the most part. With the lack of snow, it is still very hard to fill holes and ruts in the trail. The corners and other areas are very icy. Please use caution. Snow is expected tonight thru tomorrow morning. The groomers will be out, and any significant amount of snow will improve the trail conditions. With the very cold temps cold weather injuries can increase. Be careful of any exposed skin. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Trails Good

January 28 2019 7:08am – 4 below zero – High of 5

Snow showers this morning.  Right now it looks to be less than an inch.  Today into tomorrow looks like maybe 2 inches according to the weather guys forecast.  That added to the 5+- inches at the end of last week all add up.  TRAILS ARE GOOD.  Hard ice base with Snow on top.  New fresh Snow on top.

Grooming continues.  Saw the groomer go by heading back in 7-8pm last night.  With the cold temps drivers are going out earlier to get back in earlier.  Hard on the equipment when it’s cold & can be dangerous for the drivers.

A little heat wave today with a high of 5.  Then back into the freezer.  Highs of 1 below Tuesday.  6 below Wednesday. 2 below Thursday.  Then a balmy 12 above zero on Friday!  Looks like the best shot of Snow is next weekend.  Stay tuned.

Riding this past weekend was heavier than expected.  Women on Snow group was in the area plus a lot of other large groups of riders.  Early last night most trails were hard Snow covered needing some fresh Snow.  With the cold Snow gets crusty.  There are some blow out areas on the northside of trails running along the roads.  Sections of 10E, 70W are a couple. Sun was out & think that is the cause. In town “the grade” Trails 13/3 is SNOW covered through town & going north & south. The main thing to remember is that under the Snow is pure ice in many places.  Please slow down.  Straight aways.  In corners.  Everywhere.

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.

THINK SNOW!!!

See ya on the trails!!!

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-6′ of hard pack.

Date of Report: January 28, 2019

Area Report:

Wow, the trails are in better shape than originally identified.  Combined riding the trails in the area and grooming last night, my observations are putting them at “good” ( with some very good areas).  The majority of the trails are flat and have good cover.  The fields still could use some snow, because they are wind blown.  The Enterprise trail (15 south of hwy 8) has some sections of logging.

The fresh snow last night and today will just help build the base.

The traffic flow has been fairly light in the area.  As a result, the trails are really staying in good shape.  The regular grooming schedule is smoothing them out nightly.

Please stay on all marked trails and ride safe.  We have had way too many serious accidents this season in the northwoods.

Trails Good

January 27 2019 8:06am – 14 below zero – High of 0

Not much new this morning.  5-6 inches of a mix of real SNOW & Lake Effect SNOW have improved the trails.  On average all trails are GOOD.  Plenty of white out on all the trails.  With the base from 2-6 inches and frozen hard no moguls. Staying smooth.  Few spots that have some chop on them.

Due to sub zero temps & for the safety of the groomer drivers grooming is 5pm to 10pm.  Way too cold to be out late with the frigid temps.

SNOW moving in later tonight into tomorrow morning.  Forecast for 1-4 inches.

Here are some cold weather tips.

  • Don’t ride alone
  • Tell someone where you will be riding
  • Dress in layers
  • Stop more often & drink warm drinks
  • Make sure you keep the gas tank full
  • Be sure your phone is fully charged & you have a map
  • Download the “MapIt Vilas Co” app.  It is a gps app that also includes the 3 digit
safety number system.  Get in trouble you can pin point where you are at for EMT’s

Plan was to ride to SNO(Saturday Night Out) at White Stag in Sugar Camp.  Took the car.

Didn’t ride yesterday.  Waiting for an above zero day!

All our trails in the Cedarville Snow Travelers area have been groomed. The Jane Addams was groomed yesterday and is in excellent shape with a 4 to 5 inch base, the trail to Rt 20 was also groomed yesterday along with the trail out to Big Os and Rt 75. There is a ton of snow in the fields and the trails in our area are as good as I have seen them in years so now is the time to get out there and RIDE.  PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS as we do have some winter wheat out there. Remember to feed the trail boxes as the fuel for the groomer cost. More snow in the forecast

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8 to 10 inches in the woods

Date of Report: January 26, 2019

Area Report:

Even before the snow we received this week, riders had been reporting that they (trails) were way better than they expected – even without much new snow. Since I heard these rider reports, we have received about 3 to 4 inches of fresh white gold over the week. That may not sound like a lot but add that to trails that were already good and it makes them even better. Corners continue to be very icy. We expect heavy traffic this weekend so please be cautious. The temps are dangerously cold, so please dress extra warm and plan more frequent stops.
