Snowmobile Trail Report by Cross Country Cruisers 1/29/19

Sadly there has been yet another snowmobile fatality in Oneida Co and our neighboring town of Lake Tomahawk. A 44 year old man from the Green Bay area left a marked snowmobile trail and struck some trees around 9:00 pm Saturday night. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and everyone this terrible loss affects. Please folks let`s try and be safe out there!

It has also been brought to my attention that I may have been reporting conditions on trail 10 improperly. We do have a section of unfunded trail 10 that adjoins with trial 70 in town. From here on I will refer to this section as trail 70/10 in town.

Cruisers trails held up very well through the weekend and remain in good to very good condition with the exception of trail 70/10 in town. This trail is fair to good.

We did receive a couple inches of fresh snow Sunday night and into Monday and with the cold temperatures that are forecasted for the next couple days the Cruisers trails will remain mostly good to very good. Watch for icy corners and if you are riding in a group the snow dust for the riders in the middle or towards the back is very intense! Please use some extra caution.

I will do a bit more detailed report again on Thursday. So I will say this again, the clubs put a lot of work into brushing, signing and grooming theses trails for your safety and enjoyment. So please let`s all take the time to ride so that we can see these information signs warning us of changing conditions ahead and ride at the ability that we can control our snowmobiles and have an enjoyable ride for your safety and others! We love seeing all the riders enjoying the trails and patronizing all of our great sponsors. We want nothing more than for you to have
a great experience, return home safely and plan your next visit!

Please!! Ride Right Ride Safe!!

SNO-EAGLES TRAILS OPEN!
Trails Good

January 29 2019 7:50am – 4 below zero – High of 0

The total of SNOW yesterday was 2 maybe 3 inches 6 miles east of Eagle River.  A little less heading west in town.  That added to the 5+- inches total last week all add up.  TRAILS ARE GOOD.  Hard ice base with SNOW on top.  Next SNOW later this afternoon.  No totals available.

Grooming continues.  Earlier grooming because of the cold temps.  Hard on the equipment when it’s cold & can be dangerous for the drivers.  Thumbs up to those drivers.

Cold is back.  Highs over the next few days:  6 below Wednesday. 2 below Thursday.  Then a balmy 11 above zero on Friday!  After that temps above zero during the day & even at night.  Looks like the best shot of Snow after today is next Monday  Stay tuned.

All in all trails are GOOD but very icy under the Snow.  Pays to slow down.  Straight away. Curves.  Everywhere.

Not much in the line of problem areas to report.  High hill section on Trail 70W.  A few spots on the north side of 10E. Road crossings. North part of 13N heading out of town is choppy. With the cold 10/13 aka Wisconsin River bridge & 3 aka Manske Swamp are frozen tight.

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.

If you are riding

  • Dress in layer
  • Tell someone where you are riding
  • Stop more often
  • Be sure you phone is charge & tuck into the inside pocket of your jacket
  • Be sure tank if full

THINK SNOW!!!

See ya on the trails!!!

Area Report:

BRRRRRRRRR!!!

We received about 4 inches of snow.  Groomers have been out every day.  Trail is reported to be awesome.  That plowed field area south of the river trail is still a little rough.  The windy conditions blew the snow off this area.  It is still very passable.   With the cold temperatures coming in the next few days, trails will freeze up and hold up very well for the upcoming weekend, when temps are predicted to be in the 20’s.

Groomers will be out all weekend.  Drive safe.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 5-12”

Date of Report: January 28, 2019

Area Report:

Here are your current conditions:
Couple inches of fresh snow overnight and still snowing. All trails are being groomed 4-5 times a week. Trails have a great hard base. A few icy corners ans a few snirty spots, but overall trails in great condition.

Please, slow down and limit your drinking. Way too many fatalities in northern Wisconsin, and they all can be prevented.

Lakes are all marked. Remember, stay as close to the barrels as possible. If you don’t see barrels, assume they are not safe.

Please respect our private landowners and stay on the trail. We have had a couple issues this year already and it always puts our trails in danger.

Use caution at all road crossing as they are icy.
