Ashland County Snowmobile Report January 31, 2019
Trails in AC are open and in good condition, except the trail from Marengo north to the East end of Ashland, that section is closed.  Trails are being groomed from Marengo South.  North of Marengo has been groomed. We did get fresh snow so the groomers have been out there on the trails.

The Tri-County Corridor is OPEN and has been groomed!

As always please follow the snowmobile trail rules and regulations. Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open. As always operate with everyone’s safety in mind and report any hazardous trail issues that are observed to the Ashland County Sheriff’s Department (715-682-7023 opt 1) so that it can be forwarded to the appropriate service.

Area Report:

The bitter cold holds on for another day or 2 here & temps will then begin to moderate into Saturday with temps back up into the 30’s above zero. Groomers will be back out now with the cold leaving. Trails are in good shape with low traffic this past week & the couple inches of snow we got Monday did wonders for filling in some rough swampy areas & other problem areas will make for some good riding conditions this weekend. Corners & hills are very icy & lakes may be rough & drifted in areas so maintain reasonable speeds while crossing the lakes & stay close to the orange barrels while crossing. Remember all road crossings& intersections are marked with 3 digit emergency numbers for your safety & to pinpoint your exact location. Their was another snowmobile fatality this past week in Oneida County. This was the 4th in our county out of the 9 so far this season so please slow down & obey nighttime speed limits of 55 m.p.h & limit drinking & driving. We want everyone to come back to enjoy the great trails! United we trail divided we fail!!

SNO-EAGLES TRAILS OPEN!
Trails Good

January 31 2019 7:20am – 27 below zero – High of 5 below

It continues for one more day.  Then the freezer door closes.  18 below tonight but Friday there will be a high of 12! And it is forecast not to go below zero Friday night! Riding looks great for Friday & Saturday.  Could get a bit warm on Sunday & Monday.  But hey there is SNOW in the forecast for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday!!!

This afternoon the groomer drivers will fire up the equipment & head out to groom.

All in all trails are GOOD but very icy under the Snow.  Pays to slow down.  Straight away. Curves.  Everywhere.  Otherwise trails are in Great Shape!

Sled traffic has been low.  A few really brave riders out there.  Yesterday saw a group of 6 sleds parked at Lucy’s Lunch Box.  Riders having lunch.

Might want to reconsider riding today.  If you do wait until mid afternoon.  Here are some cold weather tips:

Do not ride alone
Download the “MapItVilasCo.” app See link below
Tell someone where you are going
Make sure your gas tank stays full. Stop for gas as you ride
Stop more often & drink warm drinks
Be sure you phone is fully charged.  Store in the inside pocket of your jacket.
Dress in layers

Worth repeating is that:

Sno-Eagles Country has 2 areas that have one-way trails.  10E is a one-way trail from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Clearly marked with DO NOT ENTER signs.  Plus trail signs are backwards if you are going the wrong way.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. Stay by the reflective orange barrels.

THINK SNOW!!!

See ya on the trails when it warms up!!!

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 3 to 12 inches

Date of Report: January 30, 2019

Area Report:

General Countywide Report:
Most of the county received a few inches of additional new snow this past week. However, grooming operations have been on hold due to the bitterly cold temperatures. Most grooming operations will resume on Thursday or Friday, depending on the weather. Even with the new snow, trail conditions remain variable, with hard bases and icy conditions still being reported throughout the county. Use extra caution when out on the trails. Also, please be aware of maintenance equipment on the trail, as grooming can occur at any time, day or night. Approach all wet areas with extra caution and be prepared to turn around if the crossing appears suspicious. Be wary of low hanging branches, wet areas, downed trees and/or limbs, and other similar hazards that may compromise the trail. Use extra caution, be prepared to turn around or find an alternate route and stay on the trails!

See below for area specific reports. For the most up to date report of trail conditions, please contact the local snowmobile club.

Drummond Snojacks: All trails have a good base with some new snow and are in very good condition. Trail 63 S was groomed Monday night. Trail 63 N to Mason and Trail 4 to Sanborn has also been groomed. Trails 6 and 7 are also in good condition. There will be no grooming mid weed due to cold temps but may resume before the weekend. Reminder to users…trails in the Mason area are entirely on private property. Stay on the trail, don’t cut corners or look for shortcuts.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: 3 to 5” base, with 2 to 3” of new snow. Trails in the area are in good condition. Please expect grooming operations at any time, day or night.

Valhalla Area: Trails in the Valhalla area are in excellent condition. Grooming will resume on Thursday.

Iron River Area: Iron River area trails are in very good condition. Grooming will resume on Thursday, weather dependent.

Frosty’s Vintage Riders (Mason/Delta Area): Trail 4 in the Mason/Delta area has a nice base, but still some icy spots, especially on sharp corners and hills.

South Shore Trail Club (Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia Areas): Grooming will resume on January 31. With the fresh snow and daily lake effect, Trails 1, 40 and 41 are in very good to excellent condition. Trails from Oriental Road to Touve Road are in good to excellent condition and will be groomed by the end of the week.

A portion of Trail 40 (Wally Polk) was recently plowed, but is still open. If riding this section of trail be aware of logging activity, including haul trucks. To get to Port Wing, an alternate route would be Trail 43 to Trail 66 to Trail 3.

Barnestormers (Barnes Area): Trails are in very good condition. Town Trails 7 and 17 were groomed Sunday, while Trail 31 North was groomed on Monday. Grooming has been suspended for a couple days due to the extreme cold, but will resume on Thursday. It looks like a beautiful weekend and the trails should be awesome. Trail 31 south of Mulligan Creek Road remains closed until a few repairs are completed and conditions improve (more snow).

Waino Riders (Northwest Corner of the County): Trail 1 from the Tri-County Corridor to Highway 13 is in good condition, but won’t be groomed until Friday.

Washburn Valhallers: With the cold weather, Trail 13 South from Washburn to the Tri-County Corridor will be groomed Thursday and Trail 13 North from Washburn to Valhalla will be groomed Friday. With this new snow, its expected both trails will be in good to excellent condition for the warm riding weekend ahead!!

News and Reports:

Closures:
Trail 31S – South of Mulligan Creek Road is still closed due to culverts out and downed trees.

Trail 63 in the Cable Area: Trail 63 just south of the intersection with Trail 70 south of the town of Cable is closed until further notice.

Re-Routes:
Trail 4 just east of Mason: Trail is closed at Yderstad Rd. Take Yderstad north to Brown Rd. then back South on Roy Anderson Rd where you can pick up the trail again. Follow signs.

Trail 63 and 70 into Cable: To get into the Town of Cable from the East take Randysek Rd. North into town.

Trail 40 just South of Port Wing: Flag Rd. is closed. Use East White Birch Rd. to get into Port Wing.

Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – January 30, 2019

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12 inches

Date of Report: January 30, 2019

Area Report:

Snowmobile Trail report for January 30, 2019 – Trails are good. The snow we received on Monday was a dusting and did not amount to much. The groomers Monday night and Tuesday morning did lay out a very nice trail. The corners and other areas remain icy so use caution. With the bitter cold (-23 below zero and wind chills of -44 below zero) and very low traffic we are not grooming Wednesday night/Thursday morning for safety of our drivers and equipment. It is expected to get even colder tonight. This can lead to mechanical breakdowns and bad things can happen. Being on a snowmobile at those temps can also dramatically increase the wind chills and mechanical breakdowns. PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION. If you do go out riding please do not ride alone! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.
