Red Arrow Snowmobile Trails (Townsend) – 3/15/2019

It’s 44 degrees in beautiful downtown Townsend this morning, with fog and rain last night and this morning. We lost a lot of snow overnight. Please stay off the trails for now to minimize any damage from sleds. Grooming operations have ceased at least until further notice!! More rain is in the forecast for all day today and into tomorrow morning. If it were to turn cold again, we have a very thick base on the trails. The long range forecast doesn’t look good though.

Paul Bunyan (Lakewood) – 3/15/2019

The rain and warm temperatures are taking a toll on what were the best tails we had in years. There is a good base yet if the temperature drops this weekend. If at all possible stay off the trails until it cools down to extend the season a little longer.

Chute Pond Snowmobile Trails (Suring/Mountain) -3/15/2019

Chute Pond Trails are open, in late season condition. There may be some bare spots, some standing water, and some icy areas. There is no grooming scheduled at this time- we’re waiting to see how things freeze back up. Please stay on the trails, and ride with extra caution.

Bagley and Brazeau Joyriders Snowmobile Trails – 3/13/2019

B &B Joyriders trails are in good to excellent condition, but we will be getting rain and also 50 degrees temps this week. We did groom Monday and Tuesday and for the rest of the week we will not be grooming. We would like to keep the trails open for at least 1 more week if we don’t lose the snow.

Gillett – 3/15/19

Trails are CLOSED.

Oconto Falls Sno Jokers – 3/12/2019

Trails are Closed.

Lena Snowdrifters- 3/12/19

Lena Snowdrifters will close all trails Wed Morning 3/13/19. Please stay off until you see a post that they are open. Trying to save the base with the rain and warm temps forcasted.

Chase Sno Chasers Trails – 3/12/2019

Snowmobile report

We are expecting 1-3 inches of snow today. Temps for the weekend will be in the low 30’s with the lows in the teens. What an awesome time to come up and enjoy some of the greatest trails we have had in years. DON’T MISS OUT!!!!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Tuesday 3/12 2:00pm CST: Grooming has ceased as of 3/12/19 2:00am. Grooming is planned to resume this weekend with one groomer while the second groomer will be out in the distant reaches of our system brushing for next season. Many spots we only have access to in the winter so it is go-time for brushing! We have about an inch of rain forecast for the weekend. We can survive rain, even a lot of rain, but we can’t groom an ice block. No the rain will not bring us dirt trails. However there could be water flowing hazards across trails and things can get real icy real quick. We do not have a tiller so grooming becomes a very time sensitive task. Riding this weekend is encouraged, just need to ride cautiously as running water could appear on the trails. If you see a groomer please pull over and let them pass. Overall our trails are excellent!

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is excellent was last groomed 3/10/19. Please do not ride on sidewalks near Holiday and try to keep the noise down in town.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is very good was last groomed 3/10/19. PLEASE REMEBER TO CROSS US HWY 2 IN THE CORRECT LANE OF TRAVEL, DO NOT BLOCK HWY TURN LANES!

Wakefield to Marenisco is excellent was lasted groomed 3/10/19. This trail is a mix of twisty but wide forest roads (13mi) and 12mi of rail bed to Marenisco. This beautiful trail is 12 miles of unplowed wide logging roads that wind their way through the Gogebic Range Hills before running 10 miles of rail-trail to Marenisco. PLEASE STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS ON THE RAIL TRAIL! There is a significant logging presence on FR-8100 with dozens of log trucks hauling out daily. Last week an accident occurred with a log truck. Stop at the stop signs!!

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is excellent and was last groomed 3/10/19. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI) is excellent last groomed 3/7/19. This is their most scenic trail and a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly.

Trail 11S is in excellent condition it was last groomed 3/10/19. It is groomed all the way to the WI line. This 17 mile long trail has 2 stop signs and is a wilderness tour. The southern 3 miles get thinner, but remains in good condition.

Trail 11 N is closed indefinitely.

THE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS-
Tuesday, March 13th
Gogebic area trails are in excellent condition. Temps warm up Tuesday through Thursday and there’s a potential for rain that seems to diminish slightly as we head more into the week. Friday will bring about a drop in temperature with a forecast for snow. Groomers will be parked during this mid-week warm up and they will be back out as soon as the temperatures allow. We’ve got a great base and we certainly have enough snow – so we hope to have good riding through the end of March.

WATERSMEET WHITE THUNDER RIDERS reports 3/11/19:

EAGLE RIVERS  TRAILS
On average FAIR
GOOD conditions out farther

March 15 2019 7:23am  – 29  – High 29

Temps have dropped & a skiff of SNOW over night. Less than an inch.  Teens at night throughout this weekend.  30’s during the day.  Cloudy.

No grooming overnight.

Trail conditions are about the same.  SNOW is soft during the day when temps rise.  Crusty in the mornings with temps going down into the teens or low 20’s at night.   Plenty of SNOW to ride on with varying conditions to include icy.  In town SNOW is the softest.  Water at the edges of all road crossings & later today expect some on trail sections.  The crossing just past Friendship House that takes you to the rec bridge along Hwy 45N is the worst where there is snirt.  Trails in many areas are solid & snow filled with top SNOW crusty.  Out of town going east is pretty good with downgrade between Loon Lake Rd to Bloom Rd & crossing the bridge near Boat Sport.  Otherwise pretty GOOD riding.  North the same conditions.  West the area from the Town of Lincoln Townhall out a distance is downgraded as well.  Rest is pretty darn good.  On the high hill on Trail 70W icy & rough.  Take Trail 7 aka Paintball Field to Sugar Camp Trail 15 & on to the alternate 70’s to St. Germain OR head north on 13N taking 10W/13N toward Sayner.  As of this morning the Wisconsin River bridge is open.  Stay tuned for updates.  Note most road trails/routes are bare or low on snow. All in all what really surprised me was the lack of snirt at the crossings.  What is there is grey/brownish SNOW because of the softness & plenty of moisture.

These important updates continue:

There is 1 logging operations going on where there is a need to use parts of the trails. Trail 13N by Deep Lake Rd. Plus utility work on 7 near Sugar Camp on the high line.

Even with the warm up the snowbanks at driveway crossing & road crossings are still have snowbanks. Road crews are still out winging road banks.  There are some parts of trails that run along highways that could be have chunky snow on them from the road clearings.  10E is one.

EAGLE LAKE TRAIL & CATFISH LAKE TRAIL ARE MARKED & OPEN. There is surface slush on top & layered through the SNOW.  Hard ice under the SNOW.

The 2 one-way trail areas are 10E from the ERRA Sports Arena all the way out to Nicolet Mini Mart.  The other is the 13’s up near Buckatabon Bridge & Bauer’s Dam area.  Please be aware that for now signs will be buried in many locations.  PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK A MAP SO YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THESE TRAILS.

Trails can & will remain open until midnight March 31 snow & conditions permitting.

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

The Northwood’s has been receiving some rain and warmer temps the last two days and through today. The temps in the evenings will go back down tomorrow but continue to be at the line of freezing and above during the day. Many groomers were out last weekend and into this early week but with the warm temps and soft conditions groomers have not been out the last few days and there may be sporadic grooming done as it is late season. With that said however there is a lot of snow out there, especially in the woods. On the wooded trails there is much more protection from the conditions so the wooded trails are in good conditionOut in the open and on roads and routes you will find slush and bare spots. Also on the lakes off trail will find slush and with the temps cooling back down and things freezing back up you can expect some hard, icy patches.

Advice would be to stay on the marked trails, and after the warm up and then freezing on the lakes those lake trails may be very nice. Wooded trails and lakes staying on the packed trails will be your best find for riding.

The Chequamegon National Forest typically closes their trails March 15th, however with the late season they may delay that closing and feel those trails will be open this weekend, HOWEVER, they have not made that decision yet and don’t expect to until todays rain has ended. As mentioned, we will update that as soon as the forestry department has made their decision. ***Please note this closure is national forest only, not county forest and land, ALL county trails are open.

Surrounding counties, you will find Bayfield, Ashland, Rusk and Price to have very similar reports. If looking to Washburn you will need to check that area as their forestry is also deciding on closures. Barron County is closed.

As we near the end of the season we want to thank all the members and groomers for their amazing work and dedication! And we thank all the riders who chose Sawyer County as their riding destination! We have had a great season!! We look forward to ATV/UTV Season 2019!!
