SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER & ALL OF VILAS COUNTY ARE NOT OPEN.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday 19 inches of wet packy SNOW arrived. All clubs in Vilas county are panning & packing the swamps & wet areas. If this snow hold the trails are going to be fantabulous when they open.
Sunday the temps will pop up & bring SNOW both Sunday & Monday. Then all of next week the temps will keep dropping with next Wednesday bringing 1 below for a high & 8 below overnight. Might even be some SNOW today!
Trail inspections began at the beginning of this week. It takes 10-11 days to get all of the 11 clubs trails inspected.

Frosty Club trails are being brushed and signed…swamps are being packed…..opening date has yet to be determined but it will be after all deer seasons are completed.

Washburn County Snowmobile Trails remain closed at this time. We received more than 16 inches of snow during the recent storms, so the club volunteers are busy checking the trails, freezing down swamps and grooming in anticipation for trail opener. If favorable weather conditions continue, some snowmobile trails are anticipated to open on Thursday, December 12th, following the muzzle-load gun deer season. Check back for updates.

Western U.P. Snowmobile Report 12/4/19
Welcome to our 2019-20 snowmobile season. Looks like we are starting out with a bang. With our blast of 40″ of snow this past week all our clubs are busy trying to get the trails in shape. Temps for Friday will be in the 20’s Saturday & Sunday will be around 30. Remember it is early season riding so please use caution.
Gogebic Range Trail Authority
11S closed for season. 160 has not been inspected/groomed since fall brushing, we hope to open it this weekend. Hurley to Ramsay and Wakefield to Marenisco has been rolled twice and groomed once. The mud hole on trail 2 has been fixed. Trail 8 has not been rolled or groomed. Current suggested rides are from Ironwood to Marenisco, but you will have to deal with those wet spots. Otherwise trailer to Indianhead or Blackjack and ride east from there without issue. Tons of snow, very slow grooming due to it.
Lake Gogebic-Gogebic Area Groomer
It is EARLY SEASON which translates into rough terrain, wet spots and groomers still working on trails. It is “ride at your own risk” at this stage of the game and our groomers are doing a great job of not only maintaining – but keeping us informed.
Please take note to the changes to our following trails – some of which are temporary changes and some of which are permanent.
Trail 102: there is a new reroute about 4 miles before trail 11. The trail is marked well and the reroute was a very nice turn out. (Temporary Re-Route)
Trail 13 North: Trail will start on Trail 13 towards Rockland from Trail 8 just East of Bergland. (Permanent Re-Ro
Trail 13 South has logging. The first part of December, you will have to run East Shore road all the way past the Root Cellar. When the logging is done, we can open it back up, which may take us into the New Year. (Temporary Re-Route)
Past the Root Cellar, there is more logging. You will have to travel on East Shore Rd approximately 2 mile further then before to get back onto trail 13. A new reroute will take place. Please follow the signs marked 13. (Permanent Re-Route for the 2019-2020 Season).
Trail 100: Logging is happening between Stagecouch Rd and the Slate River (very end of Lake Gogebic) Marshall Creek Bridge has been fixed so you can get to Marenisco from trail 100. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)
Trail 1 from Trail 100 to Trail 8: Closed until further notice as logging is taking place until the end of December. You still can access the Gogebic Lodge and we plan to maintain it up to the Lodge, so we can get up and running to open Trail 1.
Gogebic Area Groomers are in the process of doing a reroute to the Ethelwood Grade and up to M-28 onto Trail 8. (Temporary)
Currently, the only way to get from Bergland to Marenisco is take Trail 13 to 100 to Marenisco or 13 to Trail 2.
Marenisco area is in good shape far as where the trails are going to stay from the past years.
We will keep you updated after opening and as conditions/re-routes changes. If you see anyting out there that the Groomers need to be aware of – please let us know.

Watersmeet-U.P. Thunder Riders
Trail 3 from the Wisconsin border through Watersmeet and north of Bond Falls Rd. was groomed 12-2 along with Trail 2 east of Watersmeet to trail 107. There will be an area of of logging on Trail 3 north of Bond Falls Rd. Caution is needed is this area. Trail 2 west to Marenisco and trail 13 south to Cisco Chain will be groomed today. There is plenty of snow!! 12-15 inch base

It’s Snow Time for Michigan Snowmobilers. Michigan ranks among the top eight snowmobiling states in the nation. It’s first in sheer beauty, with thousands of miles of groomed and ungroomed public trails. They span whole regions of countryside, winding across rolling fields, then plunging down woodland ravines up into deep pine forests, from town to town in Michigan.
If wintry trails beckon you, Michigan has it all. In fact, a growing number of hotels, motels and resorts offer door-to-trail proximity.
No agency has been more active in transforming Michigan into a haven for snowmobile enthusiasts than the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR). They are the creators and guardians of Michigan’s major trail network through the state park system.
Snowmobiling is becoming more and more a family sport. Safety is paramount. Most accidents occur when drivers override their headlights at high speeds on remote trails. Alcohol is frequently a factor. When you snowmobile in Michigan, observe state laws. Protect the environment and your own safety by sticking to established trails. Use common sense and courtesy. And enjoy!

Snowfalls from the past week have left our area with up to 24″ of snow in many places, however, many trails remain CLOSED to snowmobile traffic at this time until the clubs can get out there and properly groom and prepare the trails for use. The clubs and the Douglas County Forestry Department are actively working on preparing and inspecting trails for safe frozen conditions in wet areas, removal of any deadfalls, and proper signing before opening. PLEASE do not use the trails and do not trespass on private property. It just takes one owner to deny the use of their land for a trail to be permanently shut down, so please be courteous and wait for the trails to officially open.
The following all-season trails are currently open to ATV, UTV, and Snowmobiles:

* Please note – The Saunders is still closed from County Road C to the Minnesota state line. The Douglas County Forestry Department is working to get these sections repaired and opened as soon as possible.

Cross Country Trails (As of 12/4/2019)
All trails under Douglas County Forestry management, City of Superior management, State Parks, and Brule River State Forest are closed at this time. Crews are currently working on packing, grooming and tracking trails after the major snow event. We will let you know as soon as the trails begin opening.

Deep SNOW on all the trails from the 2 snow storms. The next SNOW is forecast for tomorrow, Thursday. About 1 inch in the forecast. Temps will steadily drop through the week. Single digits during the day & below zero at night moving in early next week. Looks like the SNOW isn’t going anywhere.
