Overall Story:

Monday 12/16 9:00 am CST:   What a busy weekend!  We saw tremendous traffic and trails got whooped up fast Saturday afternoon.  Why?  Well, if you have followed these updates you’ll know we’ve said we’ve been packing trails for weeks.  With 100″ of snow for the season, bumps get formed and new snow keeps us from reaching down and cutting them.  Our groomers have been working for weeks to not introduce more snow from the sides of the trails and to focus on cutting and relaying the base.  Groomers were out all night Friday, all day Saturday, throughout Saturday night and all day Sunday.  Trails are INCREDIBLE!  Nearly all of the wet spots have froze in and we’ve even froze in some of swamps that we normally don’t get access to until January already!  We do have a few trail closures noted below, but we hope to open one of them this coming weekend if everything comes together.

WARNINGS AND NOTICES:   TRAIL 160 IS CLOSED DUE TO BRUSHING ISSUES.  If you get caught riding the trail you better be brushing or you’ll receive a ticket.

BASE SNOW FALL:  This is current ground snow depth.

Lake Gogebic Area Groomers

121/12/19

We’ve received at least another  foot and a half of snow in the last week, and it looks like we are forecasted for more on the way.     Cold temps have done a nice job to firm up our wet spots.   Gogebic Area Groomers will be working on trail 1 south on the West Shore this Thursday working to open it up.   Volunteers are welcome and both the Gogebic and AJ’s Walleye Lodge are offering complimentary rooms for volunteers for that effort

Gogebic Area Groomers were out last night and report that all trails are in good to excellent condition.

Trail 1 N:   Good condition

Trails 13 North and South  Groomer went South on 13 breaking trails once more. Past the Root Cellar, there is logging and you will have to travel on East Shore Rd approximately 2 mile further then before to get back onto trail 13.  A new reroute will take place.  Please follow the signs marked 13.   (Permanent Re-Route for the 2019-2020 Season).

Trail 8W Trail 8 between Bergland and Wakefield. Groomers filled the wet spots in, but predicting that they will open back up with the amount of water running through them. Once they open back up we’ll be putting a culvert in and placing snow back over them. EVEN THOUGH, the trail looks ok, DON’T ride fast. Use caution when riding this incase something emerges.

Trail 8E:   is open and in good condition

Trail 102: there is a new reroute about 4 miles before trail 11.  The trail is marked well and the reroute was a very nice turn out.     (Temporary Re-Route)

Trail 100: Logging is happening between Stagecouch Rd and the Slate River (very end of Lake Gogebic)   Marshall Creek Bridge has been fixed so you can get to Marenisco from trail 100. (Permanent for 2019-2020 season)

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – December 16, 2019

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 9 to 15 inches of snow

Date of Report: December 16, 2019

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

As you know the Sawyer County trails are OPEN but right now until more freeze each trail varies in how rideable they are depending on where they lead. The county land (Seeley Hills Area) and forest trails as well as the Tuscobia are where you’ll find the best riding. We have approximately a 16″ base. Our lakes and swamps are not frozen enough to be safe yet so those trails leading to swamps and lakes are NOT OPEN yet with the exception of Moose Lake, that lake has been staked. We have received heavy snow fall this month and it’s a wonderful sight! However with the snow fall that hinders the freezing process a bit as it provides a layer of insulation. Last week we had several very cold days and nights so our ice is making progress with many lakes having about 4″ plus on them, so we are getting close. This next week’s forecast looks to continue with below freezing temps, with -15 on Tues night and a high of 8 on Wed and no substantial snow this week which is a good thing so we can continue to concentrate on making ice.

The trails in the Seeley Hills area and 3/5 towards Lost Land Lake and Moose Lake have been groomed several times. The Tuscobia in the Winter area has been groomed. Also the Tuscobia from Birchwood to Couderay has been groomed as well as to the Rusk, Washburn and Barron County lines has. The Wild River Trail from the Rice Lake area up is open. Trail 8 on the Sawyer County and Washburn County side will be groomed on Wed. Trail 3 gates in the Birchwood area are open. Like any other private property trails that you find the gates to be open ride at your own risk as they are not groomed yet and there may be down debris from the recent snow storms this month, if the gates are not open please absolutely do not go around them. The Chequamegon Forest is not open yet, the US Forestry will reach out when they have an open date. So to recap you will find the best riding on the county land trails.

Surrounding areas: The Clam Lake area is open, Rusk Co is closed, Bayfield Co is scheduled to open today, Ashland Co is open but not yet groomed, Washburn is partially opened and Barron is partially opened. The note from Barron Co is they are having a little set back as many of their trail cross fields and there is still standing corn as farmers are trying to get their corn cut but have had a setback due to weather so they are working on some reroutes.

It has been a long time since we have had this great snow and this much so early in December, we have a great start to the season

Ashland County Snowmobile Report December 16, 2019
The Ashland County snowmobile trails opened December 12.  Even though we have received a lot of snow, trails are reported at this time in poor condition.  We have 3 groomers out trying to get through the trails.  Down trees and deep snow is making this difficult.  Be cautious in the swampy areas for standing water.  Please bear with us and STAY ON THE TRAILS.  Be respectful of the farmers land! Stay on trail, as much of the Ashland County snowmobile trail system uses private property and could be lost if the property owners experiences issues. The most common complaints are snowmobiles not staying on trails or going off into fields that are not part of the trail, and loud noise from non-stock muffler systems. Respect the trail system so that it remains open.

Bayfield County trails anticipate to be open on December 16th.

The Tri-county corridor is open.
