Rain, mist & sleet over the last 12 hours.  Depending where you are in the Eagle River area.  Out east more sleet, mist & fog. West side more rain, sleet & mist.  Right now it is cloudy.  Precip will kick in again after lunch a 30-40% chance.  Followed by 80-100% of rain until tomorrow morning.  When winds are going to pick up from the north causing temps to drop turning rain into SNOW.  Weather Channel calling for 5-8 inches. But that total keeps changing.  So stay tuned.

No grooming overnight to protect what is on the trails.

Would not recommend riding as conditions are very icy.  If you are please avoid the following area:

*Wisconsin River Trail aka 10W/13N – frozen but shiny slippery ice – approaches not groomed
*Manske Swamp aka Trail3N – no recent grooming
*Loon Lk & Bloom Rds section of 10E(use City/Trig’s Trl to Bloom Rd) – not groomed
*Trail 17S from Trail 7 aka Paintball Field heading south to the Sugar Camp trails – not
groomed

Catfish & Eagle Lake Trails are NOT MARKED.  So I’d wait before crossing.

Time to sit tight.. Get through this wet stuff.  Wait for the temps to drop & get us back to SNOW.

Very important!  THINK COLD & start DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

Most Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time with a base of 8 to 15 inches providing good riding conditions. Trails are fair to good right now, warm temps and rain is in the forecast for Sunday and then turn back to snow on Monday, they are saying 3-5 right now but could be more

Reminder! The Lakes are not Cruiser Trails and are marked by private business owners. Right now it is not advisable to cross the lakes as Ice is deteriorating fast. You are doing so at your own risk.

CROSS COUNTRY CRUISERS TRAIL REPORT FOR 12/28/2019
The opening weekend was a great start to the season! Could not have asked for better snow conditions except for the lake issues.
For now the trails are so-so because of the current warm up and lack of new snow.
We are seeing soft to slushy trails and bare spots.
LAKES SHOULD NOT BE RIDDEN ON UNLESS THEY ARE CLEARLY MARKED!
Please pay attention to our signage on Trail 51, Vandercook Rd, as it is still closed due to logging.
Again Trilby Lake Rd on East side of Highway 51 is a shared logging road! Watch out for trucks!
Watch the signs on Bearskin Trail, 51S with the detour at Lakewood Road (Pinewood Trestle is closed). Hopefully mother nature will start cooperating soon.
Until then use your discretion for riding on the trails!

All Phelps trail were groomed last night. Trails are in good to fair conditions.  A few rough spots are out there and more snow is needed to improve trail conditions.  The swamp are rough due to the fact that we haven’t been able to run our groomers through them yet.  1″-2″ are expected this afternoon and this evening.  Rising temps overnight will change the precipitation over to rain. Highs Sunday in the upper 40″s.  Snow is in the forecast for Monday, but they are uncertain of the accumulation.  Grooming is planned for tonight as long as the temperatures get below freezing.  Enjoy yourselves on the trail. Please think safety first.

Hurley Area Snow Report Saturday December 28, 2019

White Thunder Riders report that trails are in GOOD condition —- the groomers have been going steady to keep things in tip top condition.  Groomers have been running two shifts daily with riders reporting overall good conditions.  The area has received over 100” of snow this season, Saturday’s forecast is for snow daily through Tuesday, temps are expected to be in the low 30s.

**Stay on the trails or STAY HOME.  There have been numerous reports from the area and surrounding clubs of riders NOT staying on marked trails.  When this happens, easements are at risk. It’s simple, stay on the marked trails. RESPECT our landowners.

Trail 6 between County E in the Whitecap area has an active logging operation going on.  We recommend finding an alternative route at this time.

Saxon Harbor is accessible from Frontier Bar via Trail 3.
Trail 160 from Wisconsin to Michigan is now open

**Pick up a 2019-20 Iron County Trail Map for an accurate guide while riding.**

Early season conditions exist even with all the snow. ICE IS NOT SAFE. Please stay off of the lakes and flowages.

Ride RIGHT.  Ride SAFE. STAY together.

Whitecap Mountain Resort is OPEN, with 29 runs and 4 chair lifts in operation.
