Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – February 3, 2020

Area Report:

Trail report for February 3, 2020 – Trails are fair to good. With the very heavy traffic and the very mild temps the flat trails did not last long and got bumpy very quickly. The forecast for the next few days is expected to get cooler. If this happens the trails could stiffen up and stay smoother longer after we get done grooming them. There is no snow expected soon and it could get sunny by the middle of the week. We have had some riders going off trails on private lands without permission. Please do not do this. These trails could be shut down and everyone will suffer. Stay on marked trails! If meeting a groomer take all direction from the groomer. They are out there any time of the day or night to make your ride more enjoyable. Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

Hello Riders!

Trail conditions are excellent! We have great snow on the trails and lakes! Groomers are out running,

***Lake Hayward by the bridge is opening up. The trail behind the big musky at the landing to Market Place is still good and open to riders. The trail from the intersection on the lake to Hayward Marine is closed until further notice.

Just a friendly reminder to always stay on the marked lake trails. We have good ice on all the other main lakes but it’s always best to stay on the trails. If you are leaving the trails to get to lodging and food make sure your aim is to get from point A to point B. Fast traveling water areas such as channels and dams can be unpredictable. Another concern we can find is plowed lake roads. We are a fishing mecca as well and we share the lakes with the fisherman. For these fisherman to get their fishing shacks out on the ice many times they have to plow a path from the landing to their spot, so this can create a berm in the snow and going across a lake off of the trail you could encounter this path unexpectedly and hit that berm. Also be aware of fishing shacks themselves and of course, those tip ups! We want them to be able to have a fish fry, it is Wisconsin after all! Again, we share the lakes with all sportsman, and we all need to stay safe and be aware of our surroundings.

SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER

Extremely heavy traffic

Holy moly! Thought last weekend was really busy but this past weekend beat it by a mile. Very large groups of as much as 20’s. Sunday there still were groups out early but by late afternoon saw more trucks with trailers heading south.

Plenty of SNOW on the trails even with the warm up this past weekend. Early morning the SNOW was soft & by dinner time it was very soft. Rode yesterday. Check out my report at the end of this mornings report.

The warms temps are now over. Finally. High today of 28 which we have already reached. 10 degrees for a low tonight. Rest of the week mostly low 20’s for high during the day. Overnight very low teens or single digits. Tomorrow the low will be 2 below.

Due to the temps no grooming overnight.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked. There is surface slush on top of the ice. Remember if you hit slush “steady as you go”. Maintain speed. Please stay by the orange reflective barrels.

Rode yesterday from home on 10E to Land o’ Lakes. Plenty SNOW everywhere. Here’s how the trip went. Left at 9:30am heading east to Nobbe’s North Cenex to fuel up. Then west toward town. 10E heading west was groomed in good to very good shape. After crossing the Hwy 70 bridge & back onto the trail could tell there was more traffic a bit “rolley polley”. Took 10E from Bloom Rd to Loon Lk Rd & found it the best it has been all season. Nightly grooming has made a difference. Picked up “the grade” into town. Through town everything was SNOW covered except road crossings.

West of town took 17N all the way to Manske Swamp aka 3N. 17N has deep deep SNOW. It was pretty soft & fill with rolling conditions. Left on Manske Swamp trail to 13N. The east side of Manske was pretty good. Near the island there was a bit of open slushy water on the south side. No problems getting through. The west side of Manske was a little rougher. 13N had rough sections too.

13N to connect with Conover 3N. 3N in good to very good condition. 3N all the way to 8W along Cty K to 13N. Very good riding. 6 down Big Portage Lk Rd which in the am was SNOW/Ice covered. Back onto 13/6 to town & The Black Oak for a meat raffle.

Late afternoon headed home from The Black Oak using 6E to Land o’ Lakes. 6E on Crystal Lk Rd & into the woods. 6 all the way to 8 & then to 45 to 13 heading back to Eagle River. By then the SNOW was mushy with puddles at all the street crossings. Saw some icy corners on 6 east of Land o’ Lakes. Conover trails were in pretty good shape. All SNOW covered with some chop.

Took 13 all the way to Eagle River. Nightly grooming has really improved that entire trail. SNOW covered all the way to “the grade” & beyond. There was plenty of SNOW but it was very soft. Like riding on pudding. 10E heading home had roughed up a bit. Could tell there was a lot of traffic during the day. Lots of moguls. But again SNOW covered.

So I’m hear to tell you with the temps dropping & the guys out grooming tonight trails will be back in good shape.

So…..THINK COLD & KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!! P.S. No evil sun either!!

Boy oh boy! Thought last weekend was really busy but this past weekend beat it by a mile! Very large groups of as much as 20’s. Riding today so will report what it’s like today.

Temps have popped way up into the 30’s & will be the same today. So SNOW while deep is soft & mushy in open areas. Again riding today will let you all know how the SNOW depth is holding up. Temps will begin to drop late tomorrow with 10 for a low tomorrow, Monday night. From there are is will be much colder. Teens & low 20’s during the day & single digits or low teens at night. THINK COLD! Start DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

Big night of grooming again. Groomer Tracking System shows most trails were groomed in the last 24 hours. So today here are the trails NOT GROOMED

17N from intersection of Manske Swamp aka 3N heading east to Columbus Rd

Not much change & in general found trails sections especially in swamps have rough areas. Covered with plenty of snow but the bumps have set in the base & it is hard to correct.

Plenty of SNOW with Varying conditions

February 1st. Winter continues. You been riding? Temps are popping up this weekend. High of 33 today & 39 tomorrow. Lows 26 tonight & 21 tomorrow night. Please THINK COLD!! Starting Tuesday cold moving in. 17 high for Tuesday & 0 overnight. 19 on Wednesday & 8 at night. With the warm up & then the drop expect trails to ice up a bit. The cold at night will continue in the very low teens for the near future.

SNOW will be of the Lake Effect type. Yesterday morning had about an inch of fluffy stuff on my car. Start DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

Big night of grooming again. Groomer Tracking System shows most trails were groomed in the last 24 hours. So today here are the trails NOT GROOMED

Ride yesterday 10E was groomed & pretty good except Bloom Rd to Loon Lk Rd section. Into town plenty of snow but mushy in some areas. 70W still rough from Sundstein Rd to Synergy Salon. Then it cleared up all the way to Sportsman’s Chalet for lunch. Headed north on St. Germain trails & Sayner trails which were groomed & good. Then headed east to 10/13 through town & home. Plenty of SNOW on the trails. Also a lot of big groups riding already on Friday after lunch. Be safe & ride right. Straight aways, hills & curves.

Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – February 1, 2020

Area Report:

Official Trail Report: All Washburn County Snowmobile Trails are open at this time. Trail conditions are excellent with a 9 to 16 inch compacted snow base.

Groomer Notes:

1/29/20 – Trails 4, 6 & Rummel’s spur were groomed today and are now in very good condition! (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

1/28/20 – 35s was groomed today and is in very good condition. (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

1/24/20 – Trail 39s/235 were groomed today and are in very good condition. (Submitted by Rolling Hills Snowmobile & ATV Club)

1/11/20 – Long Lake was staked as of Monday, January 6th with ice depths coming in anywhere from 6″ to 10.5″ on the marked trail. (Off the trail ice depths ranged anywhere from 4″ to 10.5″) The Lake Trail was groomed for the 1st time ever on Wednesday, January 8th. Please note there is a large ice heave that cuts across the trail just North of The Pioneer. As always use caution on ice! Additionally, Spider Lake & Chetac lakes are now also marked. Ashland County trails are open, groomed and in excellent CONDITION. There is a temporarily closed trail in Marengo but there is a detour there which is well posted!! And trail 77 in Cayuga is detoured and very well posted.

Mellen/Glidden: 1/29/2020: Trails were groomed yesterday and are in great condition. There is one area on Trail 13 where there is a small section of open water. Hello Riders!

Trail conditions are excellent! We have great snow on the trails and lakes! Groomers are out running, a bit of fresh snow is due tonight to freshen everything up for the weekend. The temp on Sunday predicts warm but just one day and it drops back down so we will fair through it just fine. We have been working groomers hard straight for over a month now so there does come a time where some maintenance has to be done, if we have anything down for maintenance rest assure crews are working hard to get them back on the trail asap and in between that time they will share a groomer from another club so these crews don’t miss a beat! Thank you to all those amazing crews who are out maintaining trails, maintaining equipment, running/traveling for parts and others that pick up the slack! We can’t thank them enough!

❄️❄️Hurley Area Snow Report Friday, January 31 , 2020

The White Thunder Riders and Iron County Forestry Department have the North Iron County Trails ready for the weekend. Groomers have been out, we are anticipating mid 30’s for the weekend which will cause the trails to soften up. Exercise extreme caution. We continue to hear good things about Mercer, Manitowish Waters, Vilas County and our neighbors to the east.

Trail 15 south of the Cary Mine Market has an open spot — watch for safety cones.
Trail 13 just west of 13B has an open spot also — watch for signs.
We will update as needed if any other problem areas arise.

USE CAUTION ON THE LAKES AND FLOWAGES.

We have received multiple reports of “off trail riding”.

LISTEN — it’s pretty simple. Stay. On. The. Marked. Trail.

Those of you who continue to ride off trail are jeopardizing the trails for EVERYONE. We welcome each of you to enjoy our area and scenic trails. RESPECT our local landowners.

If you come upon a groomer WAIT for the groomer driver to come to a complete stop and signal for you to continue.

Show your appreciation by attending club events, not just ours but neighboring clubs as well. Remember “United we Trail, Divided we Fail”
