As everyone is aware, Vilas county snowmobile trails still remain closed due to lack of snow. We did receive 4″ over the weekend, but it was pretty dry & fluffy. The Barnstormers have been out panning this down to help with our base. The base is in pretty good shape, so the only thing we need is MORE SNOW!
FYI, it really matters what kind of snow we get. We need moisture! If we get 4″ of wet snow, it is far more helpful than 12″ of dry fluff. At this point, of course, we’ll take anything we can get.
Do your snow dances & whatever rituals work for you! Bring on the snow!!!
At the time of this posting, it’s 2:am, 8 below zero (January 14th) and another 10-hour mostly night shift for this operator. We have had groomers out all day, making our trails something we can be proud of, but it’s currently tough! As you can see, conditions vary dramatically across our area, and the ground is not frozen near Lake Superior. The snow cover is melting from underneath, losing much of the 5″ gained there yesterday. Please use caution on Thursday when our trails open and through the weekend. Traffic and temperatures will cause our trail conditions to change rapidly. We’re still trying round the clock to make things out of less-than-perfect conditions.
Snowmobile Information:
All snowmobile trails are closed. Trails will open on Thursday, January 16. at 7:00 am
Ashland County Snowmobile Report – January 13, 2025
Even though we received a little snow…it’s not enough to open the trails. The Ashland County snowmobile Trials are CLOSED. At this time not enough snow on the trails.
We anticipate adding 2 to 4 inches today through Tuesday at 5 pm, with an additional inch Wednesday evening. Every little bit helps!
Snowmobile Information:
The Iron County snowmobile trail system will open for the season on Thursday, January 16th, at 7:00 a.m. Riders can expect very early season conditions with many rough areas and thin spots. We definitely can use more snow, but we got a solid base earlier in the year. Please watch for trail condition updates from the clubs as they continue to work with what we have.
Iron County Trails will open to snowmobiles on Thursday, January 16th at 7am.
Trails will be early season riding conditions.
The Turtle Flambeau Flowage has been marked 100%. Please stay on the marked trail as it has been rerouted this year due to massive ice heaves.
Throughout the week our volunteers will be out grooming and checking trails to give you the best riding experience possible.
Please support our business sponsors and be extra gracious this year as the weather has been so unpredictable. Our 18th Annual Winter Blast is on Saturday from 8am-10pm, please check out our facebook page for more details.
