Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – February 23, 2020

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 2 to 5 inches on the trail

Date of Report: February 23, 2020

Area Report:

I am still listing our trails in good condition overall, but due to warm temps and continued extremely heavy traffic – they will go down hill fast. So much of this heavy traffic is immediately after grooming. So not long after the groomer has gone through; there is no evidence that we groomed.  A large part of our grooming has been done in the evening this year, so there has been a lot of traffic on the trail right after the groomer. Most of our groomer drivers this year, due to jobs, cannot groom after midnight. Mostly – Only the President and VP have been going out after midnight on the weekends. On the weekends, however, we still have heavy traffic as late as 2am. So consequently, we have had a lot of people this year accusing us AT TIMES of not grooming at all. This is simply NOT true. We have done the best we can this year and are not about to demand to a volunteer to wait until midnight to go out. So its either most of the trails get groomed in the evening during the week – or not groom them at all.

There are a LOT of ARMCHAIR Trail Bosses out there. If you think you’re so smart – come take over the club.

PLEASE continue to stay close to the marked lake crossings. This year, due to the way lakes froze over with heavy snow cover, areas of the lake away from marked crossings ARE NOT SAFE!

Trail Report – : Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – February 23, 2020

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: White

Date of Report: February 23, 2020

Area Report:

It has been a blast furnace the past 2 days—40’s and sun. We were able to groom last night as it dipped into the low 20’s. Routes in the woods are still very good but some of the road routes really took a hit. Portage Lake road and Forest Lake Road especially. We have one more warm day and then winter like weather returns. If we can keep the sun away we should survive.

News and Reports:

Candlelight bowling next Sat at the Alley.

Snowmobile Information:

Please ride safe. We are up to 5 Vilas County fatalities which is 5 to many.

SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER
Good to Fair on average

The warm up continues yesterday with the same for today.  High in high 30’s & low tonight 21. Same for Monday.  Starting Tuesday temps will drop with a high of 28 & low of 12. From there on highs during the day will be in the high teens & lows in single digits or even below zero. Off & on SNOW.  No firm totals so stay tuned.

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS Trails) reports in the last 24 hours most of the Eagle River trails were groomed.  So here are the trails not groomed

  • 3N aka Manske Swamp – intersection of 17N to 13
  • Trig’s Shell section of the City trail to Bloom Rd
  • Trail 1 that turns off 10E next to Dollar Lk Rd on it way to Eagle Lake trail

ALL OTHER TRAILS ARE GROOMED

Promised more photos today from yesterday.  Got back from a ride & it was dark so more photos tomorrow.  Here is yesterday’s ride.

Took a short ride yesterday heading out at 11am on 10E heading west into town to Alt13 aka 3S.  Trail 10E was GOOD to VERY GOOD.  Trail Alt13 aka 3 were GOOD with a bit of fine chop.  At the intersection behind Dairy Queen we took Trail 70W. It was GOOD to the Sundstein Rd area.  In that area roads all burned through.  Once back onto the trail is was FAIR at the beginning & improved to GOOD with fine chop all the way to St. Germain connect.  From there trail 70W runs on some roads that are snow covered so from there trail was VERY GOOD.  Rode 70W all the way to trail 15 near Juve Rd.  Headed south on 15 & picked up a club trail to get to our son’s house on Half Mile Rd.  15 was VERY GOOD.

Headed home leaving at 3pm using St. Germain club trail to 15 all the way back to 70. Trails still snow covered but snow a lot softer.  All GOOD.  Rode 70 to the intersect with Trail 7 aka Ewald & Pincherry Rd. Trail 7 to the 10 intersection was snow covered but had deep moguls all the way to Trail 10 intersection.  Headed east on 10 all the way to intersection of 10/13.  This area was better with mostly chop.  Took 10/13 heading east to the Wisconsin River bridge area. This section of trail was very rough & had deep moguls on the west side of the bridges.  Bridge area was frozen.  East side of the bridge to intersection of 3N to Conover & 10/13 heading to town was chop.  Trail 10/13 heading to Eagle River was very very rough with deep moguls.  We rode to the intersection of 3N aka Manske Swamp.  3N was rougher on the west side of swamp area.  Swamp area frozen.  East side chop.  From there headed south on 17.  Well ridden trail with chop Dinner at Buckshots.  Then into town to Trail 10/13.  Through town snow covered.  Took Alt13 aka 3 to 10E trail all the way home  All was GOOD to VERY GOOD. Met one groomer at 17 & 10/13 intersection and another just as you head onto Alt 13 aka 3.  So all we rode in Eagle River was groomed last night except Manske Swamp aka 3N.

It was 28 when we left & high 30’s when we returned.  Trails nearly everywhere were SNOW covered. Definitely in the woods.  In the afternoon lots of puddles at road crossing especially in town.  At beginning of day roads were icy covered.  By end of day roads were bare with a few sections of ice. Was amazed at how well the SNOW held up.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked.  Conditions on both lakes may produce surface slush with temps up & sun out.  Remember not all lakes are safe.  Look for markers and/or signing.  If you don’t see any the lake is not safe. P.S. There is a 55mph nighttime speed limit.

THINK COLD!  KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!!

See ya on the trails today!
