Trail Report – : Boulder Junction, Wisconsin – March 2, 2020

Reporter:boulderwi

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 14-18 inches

Date of Report: March 2, 2020

Area Report:

Trail report for March 2, 2020 – Trails are still open but are poor to fair. The sunshine yesterday along with the temps in the mid 40’s really took a toll on our trails. With the temps expected to be in the high 30’s to the 40’s for the week we have suspended our grooming until further notice. I wish I had better news but without some fresh snow and colder temps the trails are down to the base and will continue to degrade. This could be the beginning of the end. The corners and other areas are getting bare and very icy. Road routes and road crossings are mostly bare. Please use caution! Remember to be safe, ride right, and enjoy the ride.

SNOWMOBILE TRAILS IN EAGLE RIVER
Adventure Sledding time of the year
Varying conditions

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS Trails) reports in the last 24 hours:

Trail 10/13 heading south from the groomer barn through town connecting to Alt 13 aka 3S to the Three Lakes connect was groomed.

Cloudy this morning & looks to be cloudy all day.  High of 35.  Low tonight of 21.  Tomorrow high of 35 & low of 19 with scattered SNOW SHOWERS moving in. Next SNOW on Thursday. 1-3 inches in the morning & another 1 inch Thursday night.

Surprisingly there is SNOW to ride in many areas. Enough to groom through town last night & down to the Three Lakes turn around.  Trails have had a crusty SNOW cover with a little loose SNOW on top. This is adventure sledding season.  Meaning when you ride you are going to find every sort of condition.  SNOW covered. Burn through.  Icy.  Mushy with even some water especially road crossing.  As for road routes most are bare.  Under cover sections are shiny ice.  This is a time of the season that really requires that you slow down.  With the conditions on the trails changing quickly you can get into real trouble when riding.

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked.  Stay by the orange reflective barrels. Have not ridden either lake lately but thinking there will be surface slush.  Remember not all lakes are safe.  No markers means probably not safe

There is a 55mph nighttime speed limit.

THINK COLD!  KEEP DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!!

Thinking might ride Thursday.  See ya on the trails!

Reporter:Phelps Snowmobile Club

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: over 12″ on the trail

Date of Report: March 1, 2020

Area Report:

It was a busy weekend out on the Phelps trails.  Grooming was done last night and conditions today should be great.  We are having mild temps in the mid 40’s and plenty of sunshine.  This would be a good week to get in some late season riding.  Trails are smooth, Temps are mild, and traffic has been low during the week.  Come on up and play before the snow goes away.  We will be grooming as the weather permits.  Please as always, safety first.  Trails are smooth and flat but the corners are getting icy.  Use your common sense and have a safe and enjoyable time.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – March 1, 2020

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: .5 to 5 inches on the trail

Date of Report: March 1, 2020

Area Report:

Trail conditions vary, on average, from fair at the best to still pretty good. This all depends on if they are shaded or exposed to the sun. Running scratchers on your machine are pretty much a must right now as it is hard to find any loose snow. This is due to having temps in the 40s during the day and then well below freezing at night. It is close to 50 right now. Anything exposed is melting fast. Most, if not all, road routes are bare. Please stay on the trails no matter how bad they might be. We don’t need to lose any routes for next season because too many rode off the trails this season.

Until we get some fresh snow, it has already reached a point to where it all depends on what you personally find acceptable conditions to ride. If you want perfect pristine conditions, you will have to wait for fresh snow – if we get it. What the conditions actually are is all a matter of opinion. Some would find a heavy frost acceptable to ride on.

The forecast is not good as they are calling for at least upper 30s to low to mid 40s for at least the next 10 days. I wish I had better news for you all but I WILL be honest no matter how much anyone doesn’t like it.

As I have been saying all season – it is extremely important to stay by the markers when crossing a marked lake. With the erratic ice conditions we had this season; it is not going to take long for those conditions to deteriorate fast.

It starts at the intersection of trail 10/13 & Conover trail 3N heading west crossing the Wisconsin River.  It comes out at trails 10W & trail 13N intersection. Approach on east side is choppy. Approaches to the bridge on both sides are pretty good.  Bridge itself has moguls. Approach from the west is also very rough.
  • Trig’s Shell section of the City trail to Bloom Rd.
  • Trail 1 off of 10E that heads north along Dollar Lk Rd past Chanticleer Inn to the entrance of Eagle Lake

Snowmobile Trails

Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club (Townsend) –  2/28/20

he groomer’s were out last night shaving the ice to hopefully provide some cooling snow for engines and slides. Cooling has been a problem in recent days because all the snow has frozen down, it really worked yesterday as we were able to shave up a layer of snow off the frozen trail. The season may be growing short.  Temps dropped throughout the week, then warm into the weekend. The trails should remain fine in VERY GOOD RIDING CONDITION, though icy with a few bare spots starting to show up!! throughout our system, except between intersections 510 & 512, which I would  rate as marginal riding condition, with much dirt starting to reappear.

Paul Bunyan Riders Snowmobile Club (Lakewood) –  2/26/20

All 3 groomers were out last night. Trail boss Bob Prasser reported lot of bare spots and lot of ice. We always give you a honest trail condition report and without a significant amount of snow this might be the last weekend of grooming.  Please be careful on the corners and hills. Swamps are starting to break up

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club (Mountain) – 2/26/2020

Chute Pond Snowmobile Club trails are open, groomed on a regular basis, and in fair to very good condition. Most trails east of Hwy 32 are in fair to good condition and the snowcover is thin. Most trails west of Hwy 32 are in good to very good condition, with a flat, hardpacked trail. The warm weather has caused some bare/burned out spots, and the melting has caused some slushy/icy areas. Our team of groomers will continue to work the trails to keep them in the best condition possible. The season is not over- there are still many miles of great trails to ride- there are just some ugly spots here and there. Some fresh snow would help improve the trails, but that may not happen. This may be the last weekend with really nice trail conditions- next week the warm weather returns.

NEW DETOUR: There is a new detour route from INT#447 that runs north and west and intersects with the 18 Corridor trail at Riverview Rd (see map- detour is shown in red). Thank you to the Towns of Mountain and Riverview for allowing the use of the unplowed town roads to complete this detour. The detour route is groomed and marked.

Exceptions (see map): Trails that will remain closed indefinitely are from INT#451-INT#453 (from east of Hwy 32 behind the Junction to Jack Pine Rd), and from INT#447 north to the 18 Corridor trail near Cooked Lake (the northern pipeline trail). DO NOT ride the closed trails- they have not been cleared from the July wind storms because the swamps are still wet and have not allowed equipment to get in to work on those areas yet. The closed areas are tangles of fallen trees in a swampy area- you don’t want to go there.

Cautions for the entire season: Be aware that any off-trail riding- even to take one ski off to “grab a little loose snow”- could be dangerous. The July wind storms have devastated many areas of our forested trails, and there are many trees and limbs on the ground just off the edges of the groomed trails. Please stay safe- stay on the groomed trails. Riders are urged to reduce speed and ride with extra caution, as the forest and the trails look very different since the storm. There are numerous logging operations that will be ongoing throughout the season. Please use extra caution in these areas. No Chute Pond trails cross any lakes or rivers- use extreme caution on all frozen surfaces. You are encouraged to carry a portable hand saw if possible, since limbs and branches continue to fall onto and over the trails. Please- ride sober, stay to the right, and stay on the marked trails.

Bagley & Brazeau Joyriders – 2/28/20

The trails took a hard hit from the sun and the heavy traffic last weekend, but they are still ride able. The groomers are working hard again, to give you at least 1 more weekend to ride. The trails are fair to very good condition. The best trails are the west side of Parkway Rd. We are not grooming in some of the marshes and low areas again, also watch for icy spots.

Gillett Sno ATV Riders – 2/24/20

With warmer weather the and no good snow in the near future we are going to have to close the spur off trails from the Nicolet State Trail.  The corners in the trails that run through the fields are beginning to become mud puddles.  The Nicolet State Trail will still be open from Shawano Line Road to Suring.
