TRAILS UPDATE
VILAS COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAILS OPEN
Trails are in on average Fair Early Riding Condition

Temps will be warmer today then yesterday so if you plan to ride it would good to get out early.  Checking the GTS Trails app it looks like many clubs in county were out with the groomers in the last 24 hours.  Riding today & will report conditions this evening.  In the mean time THINK COLD & do a SNOW DANCE.

Here’s yesterday ride report:

Headed out on the trails mid morning yesterday.  8 degrees when we left.  Live east of Eagle River.  Took 10 heading west toward Eagle River.  ROW had pretty much snow.  Took spur to Catfish Lake at 12 Pines, which is marked with no slush at all. Off at Braywood Bay.  Road route (10) to Bloom Rd & back on the trail(10).  Frozen solid from Bloom Rd to Loon Lk Rd. Picked up the very smooth grade (10/13) headed north through town.

Crossed over to trail 17N near Derby Inn.  17N all the way to Phelps.  Mixed bag on 17.  Thin snow under the big pines. Otherwise lots of snow cover.  Some hard ice.  Not much snirt but some leaves.  Some rough areas.

Picked up 6W in Phelps.  There has been some rehab on 6W as you leave town so it had some rough areas but snow covered.  6W all the way to Land o’ Lakes.  6W has lots of different conditions.  Far amount of snow on much of the 6W.  Thin snow areas under the big pines & logging in a section of the forest.  That section has logs docked along the trail & trail is plowed with mostly just hard ice. There’s a short stretch of 6W just as you come into Land o’ Lakes that is crusty.

Rode through Land o’ Lakes heading west on 6W & 5.  On the west side of Land o’ Lakes there was a lot more snow.  Headed south on 13 toward Conover.  Snow covered deeper in some areas. Farther south on 13 the snow was not as deep as 6W & 5.

Took 3 aka Manske Swamp over to 17.  It was frozen hard & as smooth as I’ve seen it in a long time.  No mush or water.  17 back into Eagle River.  Crossing back to 10/13 & through town. 10 heading east back home.  All in all trails were way better than I thought they would be.  Rating them on average FAIR EARLY RIDING CONDITION.

As reported Catfish Lake is marked & no mush or slush.  Eagle Lake is not marked & not open & not safe.  Remember if a lake is not marked or on a map with a trail it probably is not safe.

Good to get out & ride almost a 100 miles.  Tomorrow we ride northwest out of Eagle River on 10 aka Wisconsin River Bridge trail.  Heading to Sayner, Star Lake, Bouder Jct, Presque Isle & Manny Waters.  Will report trail conditions tomorrow night.

Thanks to the clubs for all their hard work.

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 4-5”

Date of Report: January 1, 2021

Area Report:

We have received a few inches over the past few days however it still isn’t enough to build a base and open the trails.  We still need more snow.  The swamps and lakes have frozen well this year so far.

Please stay off the trails.  They are closed.  You will get a ticket.  We spend a lot of time securing these trails from private landowners, please don’t ruin it for us by riding them when they are closed.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – January 1, 2021

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 7+ inches

Date of Report: January 1, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

Vilas County trails opened today at 0800. Rode trail 1 from trail 17 at Fence Lake up to trail 51. Thin base on Stearns Lake Road and E. Boundary Trail, but rideable, not icey. Ran trail 51 to highway 51. Some bare spots, but overall pretty good.Just need caution and be on alert for ruts, exposed areas, and an occasional stone. Trail 17 into Woodruff from trail 1 thin with rock spots but overall pretty good for early season. Sled traffic wearing on it. Also ran 17 from the casino toward Mercer, but turned around due to rocks on the grade. I met upwards of 40 sleds today, and everyone I saw was showing caution. Wolf

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 5-7 inches

Date of Report: January 1, 2021

Area Report:

Vilas County snowmobile trails will open on Friday at 8:00 am. Upon this notice, we have groomed all of our trails to be ready for the opener.

Please keep in mind that we have had minimal snow and riding will be typical of early season riding conditions with some vegetation protruding through the base.

Minor caution to riders that will be riding on 2W between Whitney Lake Road and Keego Lake Road. There is a short section of trail with a few scattered truck ruts and potholes that have not been completely filled in with snow.

Welcome everyone, be safe, enjoy the trails and be respectful of other riders and our fragile trails at this time.

Think Snow!
