Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6-8 inches

Date of Report: January 17, 2021

Area Report:

Hello Riders!

I know many are curious about trail conditions. Yesterday the snow was slushy, some trails were good some were fair and some had icy spots and/or kicked up rocks. Our snow got quite heavy and wet and slushed up. There was also lots of traffic this weekend on top of that snow so we need it to freeze and to groom to see how they are holding up. We need cold temps and some fresh snow. Tomorrow during business hours we will speak to groomers, clubs, businesses and riders to get a transparent and honest report, everyone’s good and bad differ so we will get the most popular and accurate consensus at that time and post a report. We never want to defer anyone from our county and trails but do want to be concise so you can plan to ride on good trails and make memories and continue to visit us. We also want you to trust that this is where you will find your accurate info, good or bad that allows you to make the decision to ride. Until then please be patient as we compile the info, it’s a large county with hundreds of miles of trails to check and Mother Nature is playing some tricks so hang tight! On the meantime thank you for being so excited about our area and enjoying this great sport! Stay tuned! And think snow!=

Area Report:

Traffic on our trails over the New Year’s weekend was robust. Unfortuantely we continue to have folks going about their business in a careless and thoughtless manner. Our local DNR wardens made 50 contacts  for no trail pass displayed of which most were in compliance. They did issue 2 citations for snowmobile safty and  no registrations.

Keep in mind that The Kenosha County Alliance of Snowmobile Clubs work hand in hand with the DNR to keep our trails safe.

OUR TRAILS ARE PATROLED !  Please use common sence and abide by common snowmobbile trail use etiquette !

Thank you

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 6-8 inches

Date of Report: January 16, 2021

Area Report:

The snow dances are working and just in the nick of time before the long weekend!! Much of the county to the north received a fresh 4-5″ of snow last night pushing us into good condition!! It is currently snowing a light wet snow as we report.

The southern area reported to have received about an inch. The snow we received is a wet, heavy snow and will be great to add on to your base and pack down as it freezes! A groomer is out in the Round Lake/Spider Lake/Lost Land Lake area right now checking the status. Many more will go out tonight when the temps drop and this wet heavy snow freezes and they can pack it down. This snow has taken care of much of the exposed rock on corners and those “snirty” trails near the roads. The Chippewa Flowage reports to be in great condition!

Speaking of lakes all lakes in the county are reported to be staked aside from LCO. We understand that there is excitement to ride this lake but safety is first…we WILL report when there is a change! It’s been years since it has frozen over this late into the season, unsure of all of the reasoning behind the late freeze and the complications that are arising to make it safe, sounds as if there are a few. All lakes are different have different build to them so they can not all be treated as the same. Not staking this lake it is not something any one of these volunteers and businesses want but it’s not safe, it’s that simple and that is all that is important. As you have seen in updates, they are checking the ice daily and it is progressing but slowly. Please do not ride on lakes NOT STAKED for your safety and the lakes that are staked, please stay close to the marked trail to avoid any hazards i.e. heaves, slush, plowed fish shanty roads, stumps, rocks, etc.

Over the next few days we should continue to see light snow fall and the temps will slowly drop firming everything up and making for a great ride!

Surrounding Counties: Bayfield, Washburn, Douglas open, Barron partially open, Rusk, Price and Ashland closed.

Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and clubs and thank you to all of you for choosing Sawyer County as your riding destination!

Once again the weather guys were wrong and they still got paid, yesterday we had about 1-2 of the heavy wet snow, 5-6 is what we needed to open the trails in Oneida county so we still have to wait again for our next storm, this week temps are going to be dropping and north west winds will be picking up with lake effect snow. Vilas county had little traffic and the trails are in poor to fair condition, until we get more snow this report wont change, its like ground hog day all over again.

Trail Report – : Land O’ Lakes, Wisconsin – January 15, 2021

Reporter:Phil

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: lightly snowing

Date of Report: January 15, 2021

Area Report:

The weather man predicted 1-3 inches and then 3-5, then 5-7…..oh we were getting excited……but then reality set in and there was about 1/2 inch this morning when I went to the Lodge. At least it has been lightly snowing this afternoon and early evening. Temp is 32 degrees so a drop of ten degrees or so would be appreciated. We will see what tomorrow morning brings.

Trails are rideable but definitely need snow—-6 inches to really get them where we need them to be. Some spots are good and some are bare with rocks. Be careful and be respectful of private land owners.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 15, 2021

Reporter:BayfieldCounty

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 2-12 inches

Date of Report: January 15, 2021

Area Report:

1/15/2021 update: The winter snowstorm didn’t bring near as much snow as we were hoping. Across the county we received anywhere from a sprinkling to 5 inches in the higher elevations. Groomers will be out doing what they can with the snow we received so be alert when out on the trails.

Snow base (in inches):  2-12 inches

Status (Closed, Open, Partially Open): Open, early season

Condition (Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent): Fair to Poor

With no new snow and warmer temps, trails are holding up and rideable but in fair to poor condition. A slow-moving winter storm is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday so we are hoping that dumps a bunch of snow throughout the whole county. If we do get a bunch of snow, I’ll try to do a quick update on Friday.

The same trouble spots still remain:

  • The Grand View and Mason areas didn’t receive much snow and sled traffic could damage farm fields. Please use caution.
  • Trail 1 along the South shore is rough but passable.
  • Trail 1 to Bayfield and Legendary Waters Casino are currently closed. The trail into the City of Bayfield will not open this year, but we’re hopeful for next year. The trail to the Casino is currently being worked on and will provide an update when it opens.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: Trails are in fair condition. Some are more brown than white but rideable. Hope we get some snow!

Barnes Barnestormers: Barnestormers trails are in poor but rideable condition. Trails 17 and 31 are good once you get north of trail 18, and 18 is in good condition. We groomed trail 7 to Drummond and trail 63 from Lake Owen to Grandview on Friday. (Poor condition). We hope to be grooming again by the weekend if the weather is accommodating.

Drummond SnoJacks: The Drummond groomer remains out for repairs. Barnes and/or Namakagon plan to help out on our trails so refer to their report.

Frosty’s Vintage Riders: Trail 4 from the Corridor to the Diner- very poor. Mason to Delta: fair to poor. Forest roads are fair, Scenic Drive road routes are fair.

Washburn Valhallers: Trails in the Valhalla area remain in fair condition. Hopefully we will get a good snow on Wednesday night.

Trail #13, Ashland to Washburn:  Very thin but ridable; Trail #13, Washburn to Valhalla:  Thin but ridable; Trail 33/31/63, Valhalla to Moquah:  Covered but getting thin with exposed rocks on #63. Trail 31 around Valhalla; Covered but getting thin; some of the most snow in our area. Like everyone, we are really hoping for some snow with this next system.

South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Trail 1 from Port Wing to Corny is rough with no grooming yet. Wally Polk trail is fair so is trail 40 and 41. We need snow and I will be out grooming!

WAINO – Waino Riders will not be grooming until we get some snow. Hopefully at the end of the week. Trail 1 is rideable and that’s about it.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – January 15, 2021

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 4-8″

Date of Report: January 15, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

We had about 4-5″ of wetter snow that packs down nice last night. It is also snowing lightly as I report at 3:00.Keith and I went out in the groomer and panned the Northern Hornshoe system, and if the temps drop without a lot of sled traffic today, we should set up nicely. I would report “fair” to “good”, but for a more accurate assessment, tune to www.hornshoe.org. Wolf
