Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – February 5, 2021

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8″ of fresh white gold

Date of Report: February 5, 2021

Area Report:

It’s a Winter Wonderland!!   Rhinelander area received 8″ of fresh snow on Thursday.  Hodag Sno-Trails has been out steady getting the trails ready for the weekend.  Drivers have said the trails have improved drastically, moving the rating to “good”.  Please be aware, we try to do all of our grooming at night, but there are instances that we have activity in daylight.  Keep a watchful eye out for groomers on the trail.  If you meet a groomer, please pull over and let them by.

We are continuing to groom on our regular schedule.  All lakes are marked and ready for traffic.  It is always beneficial to ride near the lake markers for the best ride.  We haven’t heard anything regarding slush on the lakes, but it could appear with the heavier snow cover.

As always, please stay on the marked trails.  It may sound like a broken record, but it is sooooo important for the life of our trail system that all riders respect the rights of our landowners (over 150 just on Hodag Sno-Trails system).

Stay safe, and ride like the wind.    Bundle up, it will be a cold weekend and following week.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-10”

Date of Report: February 5, 2021

Area Report:

Well, the weather man finally did it. They got their predictions wrong in our favor. We got closer to 12” total. We had all of our equipment out last night and everything groomed out real nice. The cold temperatures are moving in now which will creat a excellent base.
The lakes are all marked, however you might start to see some slush. Remember, the throttle is your friend when you hit slush. Stay close to the barrels for the safest ice.

Trail Conditions: Excellent

Snow Cover: 8-9

Area Report:

Hello Riders!!

Mother Nature finally showed up this winter!! The snow started in the early hours this morning and continued well into the afternoon. The county received a good 4-6″, being conservative with that number until reports are in. Some areas perhaps more. We are in for a great weekend of riding, actually with the new snow and the cold temps forecasted in the next week we should be set for a great couple of weeks!! The temps will be cold but it’s snowmobiling, we dress for the occasion! The snow only recently died down so groomers are starting this late afternoon and tonight. We will report more specific snow fall numbers as well as groomed areas tomorrow morning but for now the ones we know are:

9 and 3 between Round Lake and Lost Land Lake

3/5 from Lost Land Lake to Reel Livin Resort to Moose Lake

Seeley Hills – 31/8/63

31N near Birchwood to Washburn County Line and into Washburn County, they will complete a pass around Long Lake as well.

Again, many more groomers are out and/or will be out in the next 24 hours or less but we will wait for their official updates.

Lakes are very snow covered now and will be good riding, please stay on the marked trails as it becomes hard to spot hazards off of the trail just under new snow. Trail 18 entrance/exit onto and off of the Chippewa Flowage in front of R & R is still closed. The cold weather on its way may help this soon and we will update when given the green light but for now, PLEASE stay out of this barricaded area for your safety but also to allow the area to refreeze well.

Surrounding Counties; Ashland, Bayfield, Washburn, Price open. Rusk and Barron partially open (see Travel WI for more detailed reports from those counties).

You’re in for some great riding! Dress warm and be safe!! And if you want to get a chance to win some money keep your eyes peeled for the “Sawyer County Snowmobile Friendly” signs out there and take a selfie with it tagging #sledsawyer2020 and the Hayward Lakes Convention Bureau! What a fun way to show your great times in Sawyer County!

Trail Report – Feb. 5, 2021:

Well, we finally received much-needed snow just in time for the weekend! As of 3 a.m., we received about 8″ of new snow which has greatly improved our trail base. Unfortunately, on Wednesday night one of our groomers went down and will be out of service for at least a week. That means our remaining groomer will be running around the clock to keep the trails in shape.

Prior to the new snow yesterday, we groomed 2W and 8E. During the snowfall we groomed 15N, 6E, and 15S. Early this morning we are grooming 8W, 51, and 2W. We’ll be repeating our rotation starting on Friday afternoon into Saturday.

Last weekend 1,013 sleds rode past our trail counter. With this recent snow we anticipate many more sleds to come through town. We’ll be doing our best to keep the trails flat as this is the first time this season when we’ll have the snow conditions to develop moguls on the trails.

Trail Advisory: When riding on the airport spur, please stay on the marked trail which is on the far edge of the airport adjacent to the road.

Speed Limit Advisory: When passing through town, whether on Corridor 7 or Corridor 15, please use the marked trails, follow the signs, and observe the 15 mph speed limit. Snowmobiles are not allowed on the town’s Main Street.

When riding in our area, ride on the right, respect other sledders, and enjoy our trails and area businesses.

Think snow!
