The pop up to low 30’s is passed.  Highs for the rest of the week will be in the low 20’s during the day.  Single digits at night except for Thursday when it will be in the teens & SNOW.  SNOW’s not going anywhere!

In Sno-Eagles Country, Eagle River trails are in VERY EARLY RIDING CONDITION. Expect all types of riding. Swamps & wet areas are tight. Riding today & will have a full report of conditions tomorrow.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails are NOT marked.  So please stay off for now.

Groomers were out Sunday night grooming most of the trail thru downtown. Trail 10/7/17 heading west was groomed from Oak Lane by Williams Pine Gables all the way to the Sugar Camp connect along Hwy 17S. And north on 10/13 to 3 aka Manske Swamp and back over that area into town.  Last night Alt 13 to the Three Lakes turns around, 10E to Three Lakes connect to include Nine Mile trail that connects to Three Lakes. (Three Lakes trails open at 8:30am today) Also groomed the trail portion of Grampa Grahm off of West Carpenter Lake Rd.

There is a re route on 10/13/7/17 heading west.  Here’s a photo of the change.  It’s rough ride now.  Should Trail 10-13 heading westk re reoute 12-2021smooth out as we get more SNOW.  Please stay on the trail.

Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – December 28, 2021

Reporter:Threelakeswi

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 9-10”

Date of Report: December 28, 2021

Area Report:

The day has finally come, as of December 28th, our trails are open.  These are early season with some trails or sections of trails ungroomed due to wet areas in swamps.  We received about 5-6” of snow recently with more in the forecast. If you encounter a wet spot, just keep your speed and ride through, it is safe to cross it.  The lakes are considered unsafe if not marked.

Please note: we have one permanent closed trail.  The lake trail that went from Big Stone Lake, across Bonkowski Rd to Laurel and Medicine lakes is closed.  Please respect our landowners and do not try and take this trail.   The landowner is building a house where our trail was. There was no feasible reroute.   We want to thank the landowners for the years of access for that trail.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-6″

Date of Report: December 27, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

I just got in from grooming onboard Hornshoe #1, and we are in business.Trail 17, the grade, has a 4″ compacted base from Woodruff to just south of the marsh. Sleds are picking stones the last couple of miles where our 17 ends and Mercer picks up. It is thin out in the open where there are no trees to hold snow on the trail. Trail 5 into the casino is good. We found the rut where the pickup dropped in last week on the outbound run, but on our return pass, no bump. This snowfall seemed to compact well, and right now at midnite it is nine degrees, so it should set up well for Tuesday. The sleds we met, and the ones that passed us, did not tear up the trail. I still caution using trail 1, Stearns Lake Road. Coming home, I see where sleds have carved into the bank nicely, but the cover on the road is thin. We need more snow. As always, I urge riders to join a club to see how we make this work, thank your volunteers that make this happen, hug your groomers because we are cute, and ride safe.  Mark

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – December 28, 2021

Reporter:Stretch

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 3″-4″ Base

Date of Report: December 28, 2021

Area Report:

Trails are starting to shape up pretty good considering the warm spell we just had. We got another 2-3 inches of snow today and more on the way for most of this week.  I spent Monday morning with the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club spreading snow on the Portage bridges lower level. It is now open to snowmobile traffic and will be groomed daily. Trail 3 up Brockway mtn is bare over half the trail so avoid that and come into Copper Harbor from the north on trail 134. Trails 124 and 133 are still round and need to freeze up a couple water holesyet. The only trail left is 122 and it should be ready to go in the next couple days. Ride safe, be careful in the corners, and remember it’s still early season riding.

Area Report:

Trails in Oneida County are open as of Tuesday, December 28th @ 8:00 am.

All trails in the Oneida County Funded Snowmobile Trail System (as administered by the
Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department) will officially open for the
winter season at 8:00 am on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
All lake and river trails in Oneida County are considered unsafe and should not be
utilized until they have been clearly marked by a local snowmobile club. As always, the
Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Recreation Department recommends riders stay on
clearly marked trails. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile. The trails are
in rough, early season condition.

For Hodag Sno-Trails system, all of the land trails have been cleared, inspected and packed with the machines.  They will be packed again with the machines over the next few days.  We are trying to develop a good base and packing the swamps prior to using the drags.  Tentative schedule for full on grooming with the drags will be this weekend.  The machines will be out packing regularly prior to that.

The lakes are not marked and should be traveled at own risk at this point.  Lakes will be reviewed for marking starting this weekend.

This is early season riding, please be patient.  As of Sunday night the fields were bare.  There isn’t much of anything to work with at this point.  We are packing them as flat as possible and working toward the long term good base.  There are just a few wet spots, but shouldn’t cause a serious issue for riders.

As always, let’s respect our landowners and keep on the trails (between the blazers).

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 4″

Date of Report: December 27, 2021

Snowmobile Information:

Based on what I moved today, we got a solid 6-7″ of snow last night and today, with some drizzle on top. I will be out tonight so I can give an update after we work it. Forecasts seem to be for another 1-4″ possible in the next day or so, then quiet until the weekend. I see where a couple of sleds ran trail 1 Stearns Lake Road, and it looks like they are getting to pavement with their carbides. There are some banks to grab onto in spots for slides. Mark

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – December 27, 2021

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 6-9 inches of snow

Date of Report: December 27, 2021

Area Report:

Hello Riders!!
The season is upon us!! Sawyer County got our Christmas wish, snow and lots of it! From the center of the county (Chippewa Flowage) and to the north we received about 11″ and the southern part of the county around Birchwood about 8 1/4″. This snow fall was a good wet and heavy snow. Currently we are sitting at about 30 degrees so temps are bit warm, not warm enough to melt or hard anything just enough to make the fresh deep snow a bit soft so many groomers will be waiting until at least Tuesday to go out as they will wait for this snow to set and freeze in the night when the temps drop so they can pan and pack it down. Some may be out late tonight. Temps will be in the single digits to the negatives at night so this will help freeze and solidify this base very nicely. Temps during the day for the holiday week bring the teens and low 20’s with some more snow fall Tues, Thursday and Saturday. It is a great week to ride!
Some reports in on specific areas today;

Birchwood received 8 1/4″. Gates on 31 south to Washburn Co are open. Grooming will begin Tuesday. Lake Chetek will start staking closer to the weekend. That area invites riders to pack down the marshy areas in the southwest corner of the county.

Winter area trails are open and ready. The Tuscobia is open and ready. Groomers also will go out in that area on Tuesday and they too invited riders to pack trails.

Both the east and west side of the Chippewa Flowage main trail is staked. They are currently opening gates on the west side of the Flowage. Some of the small trails off of the main trail on the Flowage that take you to places such as Sisco’s, The Landing, Big Musky and Chippewa Pines will be staked later today. Please note there are some wash outs and larger rocks on trail 12 between 18 and the Flowage and some on 18 between County Rd B and Hemlock Haven Rd. The new snow will assist in the washouts once it’s frozen and panned and if you encounter any large rocks and want to help if you could stop and throw them off the trail that would be very much appreciated, both for riders and groomers.

Staking on Grindstone, LCO, Whitefish and Sand will begin Tuesday. Callahan will begin today.

The groomer in the Round Lake, Spider Lake and Lost Land Lake areas will be out later today. The Tiger Cat Flowage, Spider Lake, Lost Land Lake, Moose Lake and Nelson Lake are staked. Little Round and Ospry will begin today and Big Round tomorrow. The Seeley Hills groomer will be out in the leading days as well.
Our season is upon us! However, true to form it came in one rush overnight and now we wait for the cold to set in. So while trails are open please ride with caution as the groomers cannot be out quite yet but will be in the following days. And most lakes should be staked by the end of tomorrow so if you’re on the lake please ride with caution and stay close to the stakes. If you are out riding and helping pack down the trails we thank you!

Welcome to season 2022!
