Trail Report – : Eagle River, Wisconsin – January 7, 2022

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS IN FAIR TO GOOD RIDING CONDITION

January 7, 2022 – 6:18am 7 below zero – High of 12 today

With the new SNOW the trails are in FAIR TO GOOD RIDING CONDITION. We found all SNOW covered. There are some icy corners heading west & far north. Some road crossings were partially blocked from road & driveway plowing. 10E which runs east of Eagle River along Hwy 70E was SNOW filled from road plows winging the banks. This from no grooming Wednesday overnight.

Today I’m happy to report the Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows nearly the entire system was grooming last night.

Trail 17N was not groomed from Chain o’ Lakes Rd by the Cenex Gas Station north to where it crosses Hwy 45 north of Eagle River. This trail is on the east side of Hwy 45N
Trail 10W was not groomed from the Trail 10W/13N intersection to Croker Rd. This section is west of the Wisconsin River Bridge section of Trail 10W/13N. The section that turns right & heads south. Rest of 10W was groomed

REMINDER: Catfish & Eagle lake trails were marked & are NOW OPEN. To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels. Note the spur from the northside Eagle Lake boat launch that leads to Eagle Waters is NOT OPEN at this time. Work in progress. Stay tuned.

There is a re route on 10/13/7/17 heading west. Here’s a photo of the work done on January 3rd. Did stump grinding to help smooth out the area. New SNOW has helped that area a lot. It will take some time to smooth out & a lot of SNOW so expect it to be very rough.

All Clark County snowmobile trails remain CLOSED at this time as more snow is needed before they can be opened. Riding on CLOSED trails is trespassing and fines apply, not to mention it could cause long term trail closures from unhappy landowners!

News and Reports:

Our club has been active for 34 years now. We started out as a small club in 1988 named The Neillsville Rec Riders, designing ATV routes that accessed the Clark County Forest Trail System, via roads. We then created our first cross county un-groomed snowmobile and winter ATV trail system from Neillsville to Granton. In 1993 we purchased a used Bombardier groomer to start grooming our trail for snowmobiling. In 1996 we expanded our snowmobile and winter ATV trail system from Neillsville to the Clark County Forest Trail near Hatfield.

In 1997 we added a tractor and new drag to our grooming fleet to keep up with the grooming schedule. In 1999 we further expanded our growing trail system with a snowmobile trail running from Granton to Sherwood. In 2001 we made a big achievement in trail devolpement by creating a snowmobile trail from Neillsville to Loyal, giving us a total of 56 miles in groomed snowmobile trails across private lands. In 2002 we had to add a second tractor and drag to keep up with the high grooming demand. After receiving heavy, drifting snows during the ’06-’08 seasons while continuing to get stuck with our tractors, we felt the need to add a newer tracked groomer to our fleet.

We purchased a Piston Bully trailer groomer to keep up with the demanding trail grooming where our tractors fell short, in deep snow and eliminated 1 tractor and drag! We groom our trails 20′ wide where ever possible and they are the best marked in the county, you won’t get lost on our trail system! In 2010, we had to cease the operation of winter ATV use on all of our snowmobile trails, due to increasing abuse from disrespectful ATV’ers creating problems on private lands. Moving forward in 2011 we strive to keep up with the best snowmobile trails in the county and that is out main focus moving on. Upgrading in 2017 we purchased a 2007 Prinoth BR180 tracked groomer adding two tracked machines to our fleet. In 2021 with the need for a newer, larger, more durable tracked machine we decided to sell our 1988 Piston Bully and 2007 Prinoth and purchased a 2008 Piston Bully Trail Bully that could handle the job both older machines were doing.

The Clark County Forest ATV and Snowmobile Trails are maintained by the Parks and Forest Department as well as the 9 other clubs that maintain the rest of the trails in Clark County. Our club would not be where it is today without the help and permission of the 89 landowners who allow us to cross their lands. With out them we would have no trails. All of our members that help out, donate their time and it is much appreciated when we get compliments on how well of a job we have done.

Hello Riders!

Thank you for doing your snow dance!!! Much of the county received 6″ of fresh snow Tues and Wed. All groomers are out in full force today and tomorrow early to set up the weekend riding! Expect great trails!

The temps are cold this week, but are to be in the mid-20’s on Sat, so fresh snow and great temps are the recipe for great riding!

Groomers reported to be out (but are not limited to, expect all maintained trails to have been groomed by the weekend);

Sno-Mads: 15, 77, 31, 8, 63 in the Seeley Hills and 15 and 77 to Nelson Lake.

Winter Huskies: 9 Mile Loop of the Tuscobia was brushed and groomed. 9S and to from Couderay to Price County Line. Trail 10 (the Tuscobia).

Birchwood Bobcats: 31, 10 (Tuscobia), 3S and into Washburn County. Lake Chetac is staked.

Musky Sno: 9, 5, 3, 18, the Spider Lake, Round Lake, Moose Lake, Tiger Cat and Callahan areas to 320 towards the Flowage. These have been done early this week and again starting tonight. As noted in an earlier post trail 8 and 3 in the northern part of the Chequamegon National Forest is a heavily used trail as it is used to enter and exit the county. It is a heavy haul for the groomers to make it that way (minimum of 8hr trip) that takes focus off of other trails and pushed volunteers into wee hours of the night. This creates trail issues in that section. the club has been brain storming and has decided to relocated a groomer to a business closer to that area so travel time can be minimized and better focus on this section. This groomer will move the end of this week/early next week.

Loretta Trailblazers: Currently grooming all between Tuscobia and Hwy W in the Flambeau. 25 south to Price and Rusk Co line will be groomed tomorrow.

The Snowmobile Trails in Ashland County are Open. After the snow storm trails are being packed. No base due to the fluffiness of the snow. Conditions are FAIR. Ride at your own risk. Always keep safety in mind. Stay on the trail. Lots of Ashland County snowmobile trails are on farmers land, please be respectful so we don’t loose our easement to their property.

THE SOUTHERN UNIT (ZONE B) OF THE LANGLADE COUNTY SNOWMOBILE TRAIL SYSTEM INCLUDING ALL STATE-FUNDED TRAILS ARE SCHEDULED TO OPEN ON SATURDAY JANUARY 8, AT 6:00 A.M. PLEASE USE CAUTION BETWEEN INTERSECTIONS 39 AND 41A AND FOLLOW THE CORRIDOR MARKED BY THE SNOWMOBILE CLUB.

THE TRAIL BETWEEN INTERSECTIONS 49 & 58 IN ZONE A WILL OPEN IMMEDIATELY. ALL OTHER ZONE A TRAILS OPENED ON JANUARY 1, 2022. Click here to view a map.

The trails in Zone B will be open to ATVs after January 18, 2022. The trails in Zone A will be open to ATVs after January 6, 2022. ATVs are not allowed on snowmobile trails when the temperature is above 28° F. UTVs are not allowed on the Langlade County Snowmobile trail system.

The Langlade County Snowmobile clubs, sponsors, and operators of the existing trails have put in many volunteered hours brushing, signing, and grooming to provide snowmobile trails for your use. Please support the snow clubs, thank them for their efforts, and patronize their business sponsors.

Zone B is in normal early season condition with 3-7 inches of base. Expect rough patches in fields and swamps.

Zone A is in good to excellent early season conditions.

All lake and river trails in Langlade County are considered unsafe and should not be utilized until they have been clearly marked by a local snowmobile club. As always, the Langlade County Forestry & Recreation Department strongly recommends riders stay on clearly marked trails. Please respect private property; use of trails across private lands is a privilege. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile. The trails are in rough, early season condition.

Out of our winter storm from Tuesday night to today we received 12+ inches of snow and it is still snowing. They are calling for another 3+ inches. Temps through the weekend for Saturday we will have a high of 23 with a low of -4, Sunday will be a high of 3 with a low of -13. Remember to dress in layers and stay warm. Please stay on trails and if you see the groomers please pull over, they have the right away.

Gogebic Range Trail Authority Groomer Report January 6, 2022

We have experienced 12-18″ of snow as of this morning in North Ironwood on trail 160. Other areas seem to have 8-14″ of new snow, but lots of wind has blown most of it into the woods. Be advised there are likely trees that will come down from the wind storms and snow load, ride defensively and ride right.

Snowmobile trail 2, 8 and 11 connecting them has been groomed twice in 24 hours. Trails are rated very good to excellent. Snow and wind continues to fall! Trail 11S will be groomed tonight.

Groomers will be running in the afternoon and overnight. Trails are froze in hard and we are starting to have normal excellent conditions!

Gogebic Area Groomers Report January 5, 2022

You want snow – we’ve got snow. Over 8″ of new today and nothing but snow in the forecast. Groomers have been out – cleared the way through 8W and have stated that are trails are looking beautiful! With more snow falling throughout the day and cold temps in the forecast, trails will be in very good if not excellent riding condition.

U.P. Thunder Riders Trail Report January 6, 2022

Groomers are out packing the trails after receiving 10-11 inches of new snow. Trail conditions are very good.

Trail Report – : Bayfield County, Wisconsin – January 6, 2022

Area Report:

The whole county received some fresh snow yesterday, and some lake effect was still falling this morning in the northern part of the county. The north and central parts of the county received the most snow. Our groomers are out getting the trails ready for some great riding this weekend. Trails in places are still early season so as always, be aware of the trail conditions in the area you are riding. Just a reminder to all to please respect private landowners and stay on the trail. Stay on the trail or stay home!

Some trouble spots to note:

The Wally Polk Trail/Trail 40 near Port Wing and Herbster is closed. Flag road is a suitable re-route.
Trail 1 to Red Cliff/the Casino is temporarily closed due to a landowner issue. We have a solution, just need a few more days to get it rideable.
Trail 1 outside Cornucopia off Klemik road, at last pass the trail had been plowed down to dirt but hopefully the new snow covered it nicely.

Namakagon Trail Groomers: NTG Trail Report: 12″+ of lighter fluffy snow. Both groomers were out panning on Tuesday and did all trails except 15 from Pioneer Bar to Grand View which was done this morning! (Wed). Snow is very light and didn’t amount to much on the trails after panning but definitely improved them. Once we get out on snowmobiles, I’ll send another report as to how they are!

Barnes Barnestormers: Barnes received around 5 inches of snow. Our trails are in excellent condition and all will be groomed by Friday morning. The south end of trail 31, towards Sawyer county, didn’t receive as much snow, so is only in fair condition

Drummond SnoJacks: 8-12” of new snow yesterday before noon and it was still snowing. Groomer was out yesterday packing trails.

Washburn Valhallers: Trails in the northern part of the county are in excellent shape. 14+ inches of snow in the north central part of the county. The groomer out of Washburn is grooming Thurs morning but with 8-10 inches of fresh snow, I have to believe trails will be in good shape for the weekend. We will have all our sections groomed by Friday evening. Trail 63 (Moquah Spur) was still kicking up rocks on last groom so riders should use caution.

South Shore– Port Wing, Herbster & Cornucopia: Trail 40, 41, and 1 into Corny were groomed Tuesday before the snow. Snow was thin near the lake, but the fresh snow should help that. The groomer is out today, Thursday.
