Area Report:

We recived 3 inches of light fluffy snow but insufficient amounts to allow riding . Another 2-3 inched are expected

Monday so time will tell.

Should the trails be opened keep in mind that do to construction there are numerous dangerous areas along

Highway 50 in Kenosha east of the interstate. Also there is a solar farm being developed west of the interstate

north of Cty Highway A on Corridor 42

Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 24, 2022

Area Report:

Trails are in good to very good condition. We continue to see lower sled traffic in the area. That has allowed the groomer operators to keep up on the trail conditions without robbing from the hard base. Without significant new snows, some of the “holes” can’t be filled, but overall the trails are very good.

We are seeing some signs of icy corners as they get burnt out. Some of the hills and exposed trails are getting thin. The fresh powder events over the last few days was a nice way to freshen them up.

Our lake crossings look good so far as no significant slush areas identified.

There is one trail closure on the Hodag Sno-Trails system: Trail H4 from Boom Lake to the intersection just north of River Rd. This is basically the “land” route to not running Boom Lake. The trail is closed at this point. We have been just notified that this is a permanent closure. Running the lake is the reroute. The club is continuing to look for another “land route” but it takes time and money (unfunded – club trail).

Get out and ride, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Keep an eye out for grooming activity at anytime. We continue to double-groom on days we need to for coverage of one of our groomers. The guys have been keeping up during this spell with a groomer down. I believe the trail conditions have not suffered at all during this time.

UPDATE 1/23/2022

Trail update on trail 49! We successfully made it over the beaver pond for the first time this season! We picked up about 6″ more inches of new snow yesterday. All have been groomed late last night or will be today. The only exception is the courtesy trail between Kewadin Casino and The Antlers restaurant. Please scroll down below for each trail.

—We’ve had a busy year, brushing, signing and performing necessary repairs on our 100 mile trail system and our equipment. Please see our Facebook page for pictures and updates on what our dedicated volunteers have accomplished. -There is now a plowed parking area at the beginning of trail #8 under the International Bridge, which has an all season porta John. Make sure you lock your vehicles and trailers.

-We now have a marked trail going to Chippewa Motors. It starts once you come out of the woods east of M-129 off #449. It comes into their parking lot from behind if you need parts or service.

-City curfew is from 1 am – 6 am. Remember most City streets are open to traffic 20 mph, stop at all intersections, and ride on the right hand side of street not on side walks. Watch for closed streets that are posted, mainly around the hospital, university, and state trunk lines.

-When the trail is running along roads make sure you go with the flow of traffic on the right side of the road.

-Remember trail base is the amount of snow between your track and the ground below not the amount of fluff piled up in the woods. 10 inches of snow compresses to less then a inch on the trail.

-If you are staying in the Sault please look at our list of supporters on our web page and give them your business. Please do that in all towns you visit. The grooming entities are all made up of volunteers who want you to support those who support us!!!!!!

*Sault Ste. Marie to Brimley, Trail #8 –

*Brimley to Raco, Trail #8 and #480 to just west of Spile Dam

When going across the bridge in Brimley make sure you go with the flow of traffic! Blowing and drifting occurs when you first leave Brimley.

Watch for trail change going south just before getting to Raco.

*Mission Hill trail #889

Excellent – groomed 1/23

*Sault Ste. Marie City Trail, Trails #497, #449, parts of #8 & #49

Good – Groomed 1/23- overall in great shape .

****There is a WET AREA on the courtesy trail between Kewadin and The Antlers. If you attempt it, you risk getting stuck in deep water and mud. We attempted to groom on 1/16 but it is still too wet***

Be sure to stop at the stop sign on top of the hill by the tunnel. It is very difficult for groomers to stop when they are going up hill so please stop and stay off to the side.

Good – groomed 1/23- We made our first pass over the beaver pond south of 12 mile today and this trail will continue to improve as a result. It’ll take a few passes in the area where we could not groom prior to today to get it really smooth but it is now in far better shape.

Make sure you follow the reroute once you cross the bridge going south at 7 Mile road .

*Kinross loop & south to Pickford, Parts of Trail #49, #472, and #494-

There is a long stretch of road riding along Ploegstra Road before you get to the Spile Dam area where it is down to pavement when we do not have recent snow

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Monday, 1/24/22:

It’s 3 degrees out with a light dusting of snow overnight.
Our groomers were out last night grooming 15N, 6E, 2W, and 8W. 15S and 8E were groomed early this morning.
With cold temps forecast for the week, our trails are holding up well and are in very good riding condition.

January 24, 2022 – 8:13am 1 above zero – High of 12 today

Another day in paradise. Cold temps & low sun. Trails overall are in really good shape & SNOW covered. Heading north & east is where you’ll find the best SNOW. There are some icy corners so slow down. Last please don’t ride off trail. When you leave the trail you’re trespassing. It’s also dangerous. There can be “stuff” hidden under the SNOW or a wet swamp section. There was about 1/2 inch SNOW yesterday. Next SNOW Wednesday night into Thursday morning. No good reports on totals yet. In between teens during the day & single digits or below zero at night.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows nearly all trails groomed in Eagle River last night. Here are the trails NOT groomed overnight

Trail 10W/13N – Section called Wisconsin River Bridge that heads west. This includes 10W heading to Sayner & 13N heading north toward Bauer’s Dam.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. To be safe stay by the orange reflective barrels. DO NOT think the entire lake is safe. There have been several sleds going into the water this winter. ALL were not where near a trail.

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – January 23, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

I ran with groomer Dean last night.17 North is good yet, but thin after the first bridge and then drops off as you get closer to the open area in the marsh. Sleds are running off grade to the east, and although bumpy, no visual evidence of sinking in. Trail 5 into the casino is good to very good. 17 south from H to Stearns Lake Road is good but showing wear. Trail 1 Stearns Lake Road to East Boundary has adequate snow to cool and lubricate. 17 from Stearns Lake Road to Woodruff is good to thin in spots, especially around the bridge and then gets thinner closer to town. F trail is good, but after it switches to road at Gunlock, scrounging snow gets hard.Lakes are good, and Fence trail is open again. There are ice bumps in the middle, and the slush area off the boat launch is frozen leaving ruts where the sleds dug in. I have not run it since we got the couple inches of snow, and the wind. There were riders that destroyed a considerable section of new landscaping in a landowners yard on the Pokegama Lake shore trail. It was intentional, malicious, and will cost a lot to repair. Clubs and trails cannot survive without our landowners. We work hard to build and maintain relationships with these generous people, and a couple of weenees destroy it all in minutes. That’s all I have to say about that. Mark

Trail 10W/13N – Short section from where trail crossed Hwy G & comes out on Adams Rd. This is north of Eagle River.

Trail Report – : Keweenaw Peninsula / Houghton-Hancock, South Range, Copper Harbor, Michigan – January 22, 2022

Area Report:

The past few days has dumped over a foot of snow on Keweenaw and Houghton County. All the snowmobile clubs have been on top of grooming and the trails show it. Most trails are good to excellent shape and said to be fast and flat. I can say trails 3 from Houghton to Toivola hasn’t looked this good in years due to perfect snow and weather condition. Temps for the next week will be below average with snow in the forecast almost every day. So come on up and enjoy the western UP’s trails.

All trails are open except Trail 3 from Lake Linden to Dollar, the Frieda Loop, and trail 109 south out of Twin Lakes.

Don’t forget the Masters Racing Circuit is holding the Winternationals Hillclimbs in South Range is coming up February 5th & 6th. Also I’ll be there with a groomer for those who would like to see what we use to give you that perfect ribbon.
