Trail Report – : Eagle River, Wisconsin – February 17, 2022

Area Report:

February 17, 2022 – 4 degrees – High 7 – 0 tonight

Cold temps are back for a few days. Next chance of SNOW on Friday. 1-3 inches according to the weather guys. Stay tuned.

As the the trails on average Good to Fair. Some area thinner than others. Cold temps bring icy corners & even straight always. So slow down. Dress warm today. Not getting very warm.

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows groomers left the Groomer Barn along Hwy 45N near the Snowmobile Derby Track last night & groomed north & south of town. All of Trails 10W/13N, 17N, 3 aka Manske Swamp, 10/13 thru town heading south to Alt Tral 13 that connects to Three Lakes.

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. Stay by the orange reflective barrels. DO NOT think the entire lake is safe. Several sleds have gone in the water this season far from the barrels.

Short report as I’m riding cross country with a group of 15. This morning we head out from Washburn in Bayfield County. Check out News and Reports below.

News and Reports:

15 riders on 14 sleds left Monday morning at 9:30am from the Ice Castle in Eagle River on the yearly weekday away. This year is a 5 day trip.

We headed west on Trail 70 to 17S to 7 aka Paint Ball Field making our way west heading to Park Falls. Stopped for lunch at the Bear Bar at the entrance to the Lake Tom SnoFleas trails near Lac du Flambeau. Headed from there to Minocqua & west. Arriving in Park Falls at the Northern Light Motel for the night. Rode a little over 100 miles.

Yesterday, Tuesday we headed north to Washburn the town in Bayfield. A bit of a struggle as there were many detours & re routes in Ashland county. But we arrived safe & sound in the late afternoon at the Washburn Inn overlooking the Big Lake! Along with a great big appetite. Another day of about 100 + miles.

Today, were will ride the Washburn & Bayfield area trails.

Tuesday we headed north to Washburn the town in Bayfield. A bit of a struggle as there were many detours & re routes in Ashland county. But we arrived safe & sound in the late afternoon at the Washburn Inn overlooking the Big Lake! Along with a great big appetite. Another day of about 100 + miles.

Yesterday, we rode the Washburn & Bayfield area trails. Plenty of snow & trails good to excellent only about 80 miles.

Today, Thursday it’s back to Park Falls for the night. Trail 13 in Ashland county has re routes & detours so we’re going to try another trail heading south Let you know Friday how that worked out.

Trail Report – : Ely, Minnesota – February 16, 2022

Ely Area Trail Conditions

February 16, 2022

The new snow we got late last week improved our trail bases quite a bit, and there is more snow in the forecast for the next few days. Expect some slushy areas on lakes, so please follow the staked trails when traveling on the lakes.

Taconite State Trail: SLOW DOWN in the ten-mile segment from Ely to Purvis Lake, the trail is narrow here. The entire trail from Ely to Hwy 73/Side Lake is groomed and in very good condition. Watch for exposed rocks in a few of the big hills going west from Hwy 53. And be aware on the Taconite just east of Hwy 169, there is some slush on either side of the junction with the trail north to the Y-Store. 7-26 inches of snow with a 1-6 inch base.

Arrowhead State Trail: The trail is groomed and in very good condition. There is active logging on and around the trail north and south of the Hwy 115 crossing, so use caution in that segment. Also be aware of ice flows on the grade going north toward the Melgeorge’s spur from the Elephant Lake Rd. 8-29 inches of snow with a base 1-7 inches

Putnam-Fishing Lakes Trail: The trail is groomed and in very good condition. Watch for occasional rocks throughout the trail, mainly on the hills.

Soudan Underground Mine Lake Vermilion State Park Trails: These trails are groomed and in good condition. Watch for occasional rocks on the hills.

The Ely Area trails have all been groomed and in excellent shape. The Tomahawk trail is also in good shape. Riders should follow the stakes.

Bear Head Lake State Park There has been significant drifting in areas near the lake. Snow depth is 17-19 inches. Snowmobiling conditions are excellent, trails are groomed with a 2-4 inch base.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Wednesday, 2/16/22:

It’s 25 degrees out this morning with cloudy skies and a high of 30 for today. Temps will be cooling down for Thursday and a change of 2”-4” of snow on Friday. We did not groom last night, but groomed 8E, 11, and 15S early this morning. Our trails have held up and are in good condition, but will soften up today with the warm temps. We have a club ride today to Mercer and will include the details on Fridays report. Enjoy our trails, be safe, think snow! Check for an updated report on Friday, 2/18/22.

The snow last weekend was such a blessing and just in the nick of time! The trails are great! We will continue to watch as this weekend approaches; even temps will keep them cold and hoping Friday brings a little fresh snow!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
GOOD to FAIR

February 16, 2022 – 6:50m 21 degrees – High of 31 today – 0 tonight

Heading into a temperature pop up today. Down to 0 tonight. Then back down to 10 for a high tomorrow. Temps will be bouncing up & down for the rest of the week. The warm temps today will soften the trails up a bit. But shouldn’t o much damage. Weather guys forecast SNOW on Friday 1-3 inches!!

The Groomer Tracking System AP (GTS) shows groomers left the Groomer Barn along Hwy 45N near the Snowmobile Derby Track last night & shows nearly a full grooming.

Trail 13 way up in the northern section of trails heading toward Buckatabon Lake was only partially groomed. Plus Club trail called Uncle Kent’s. Otherwise all are groomed & waiting for you to get out & ride!

When you come upon the guys grooming first pull over & then give ’em a thumbs up!

Trail Report – : Three Lakes – Brule River, Wisconsin – February 16, 2022

Area Report:

The Three Lakes Brule River Trails system is in pretty good condition. We need snow, but with the cold weather we have not lost much. You may find a few snirty areas closer to town, but when you get out in the woods, they are really nice. Watch your corners, they are icy. We are on a regular grooming schedule. All of our system is currently open and in very good condition. Lakes are marked. Stay close to the barrels for safe ice. Please stay on the trail and between the markers. Please remember to drop a few dollars in our donation boxes at your favorite trail stop. Every little bit helps.

Trail Report – : Iron County, Michigan – February 15, 2022

Trails are holding up good…. we received another 5 to 6 inches of snow this past Sunday – Monday morning. We’re not receiving big snowfalls this season I think because the temps have been so terribly cold… but those cold temps have really held our trail system up and given us one heck of a good ice base. Both clubs continue to groom daily so trails are just the way you like them.. flat and smooth!! 😉

Again, just a reminder to all you “fun loving” sledders… our bars and restaurants are open to 100% compacity this season… so lots of places to stop along the way to grab a bite to eat.. drink and warm up those fingers and toes!!

Trail #2, Trail #107, Trail #15 N. , Trail #116, Trail #113, Trail #18 are all in very good to excellent condition.

Trail #15 S. is fair to good condition.. Trail #111 is also in fair to good condition with about (3 miles of road riding.

Trail #16 – has some logging going on between the intersection of #116 and then heading east toward Crystal Falls.

Can you believe February is already halfway over and you never know what March will bring weather wise. So check out the calendar and see when you have some free time to come north and do some riding.

And don’t forget if you’re in Iron County… be sure to look for “Nick Baumgartner”. Iron County’s only Olympic Gold Medalist. Congratulations Nick…. you so deserved the “GOLD”!! 😉

As always, while out on the trails watch for the groomers and their operators and be sure to give them the “Thumbs UP” for a job well done!!!! Remember they are the reason your ride is nice and smooth!! 🙂

Douglas County received approximately 2-6 inches of much needed, snow across the county last week. As Grooming reports come in the Trail Conditions will be updated.

Douglas County Forestry does not maintain any trails across lakes. If you would like information of specific trails please contact the Snowmobile club in that area.

It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property. Please Stay On Marked Trails.

Please share this info with anyone that you believe would be interested…our goal is to inform as many trail riders as possible.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Monday, 2/14/22:

It’s -12 degrees with sunny skies this morning. Weather forecast calls for a mid-week warm-up, with little precipitation through the week.

Last night we groomed 2W to Keego Road, 8W, 15N and 6E. Early this morning we groomed 8E, 11, and 15S.

Despite heavy weekend traffic, our trails are in good riding condition. We are still developing moguls on 15S between Hwy K and the Sayner Trail 11 intersection. After that intersection, the trail is very good down to the intersection of Trail 10.
