Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – February 21, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

Wanted to update after the weekend, and BEFORE the big snow. Heavy traffic all weekend. Big groups, but most all we hit were well organized and in control. By yesterday, our grade 17 south of Stearns Lake was gravel. We almost hit 40 here, and asphalt was poking out on the roads. We would have heard the sound of taps playing softly, and would be burying the leg lamp today. BUT, anywhere from 6-12″ predicted in the next 48 hours. Headed to town shortly for gunpowder and guitar strings, and maybe a couple of cans of Whoo Hash. Stay tuned. Mark

SNOW ON THE WAY

February 21, 2022 – 7:00am 11 degrees – High 18 – Low tonight 7

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of Vilas County.  It is in effect until midnight Tuesday night. SNOW totals of 6-9 inches are forecast. Just what the trails need!  Just to be sure START DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!. 

Currently the trails have all conditions & the conditions change quickly.  Yesterday’ warm up softened up the SNOW.  With the new SNOW coming trails will improve greatly by late Tuesday.  If you will be riding be aware weather conditions will change quickly.  With blowing SNOW.

Groomer Tracking Systems (GTS) shows groomers back out grooming last night.  Here are the trails groomed:

North of Eagle River

  • Trail 10/13 from groomer barn to the connect with the Conover trails
  • Wisconsin River bridge crossing of Trail 10/13 that heads west
  • Trail 13 heading north toward Buckatabon Lake/Bauers Dam connect with Conover trails – ALL loops groomed
  • Trail 17N
  • Trail 1 to the northside entrance to Eagle Lake trail

East & South

  • Trail Atl 13 heading south of Eagle River all the to the Three Lakes connect
  • Trail 10E main trail to Three Lakes connect. Chanticleer Inn trail to the Eagle Lake entrance & Grampa Grahm (1) were not groomed
  •  

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. Stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  Several sleds have gone in the water this season far from the barrels.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – February 20, 2022

Area Report:

All trails were groomed on Saturday. The little bit of snow we got Friday helped. We are forecasted to receive a good amount of snow Monday thru Tuesday. This should help cover the small areas we have that are a little thin on snow. Stayed tuned for the snow totals from the storm. corners may be icy as snow gets banked up from sleds. Remember to slow down in corners in anticipation of it being icy. 

Trail 3 still has the gravel section where it is coming up through the snow. The patch is roughly 250 ft long . Please ride safe ride right and for the conditions.

News and Reports:

We have our poker run going at this time . You can get your poker cards at many of our supporters locations in Conover, Land o Lakes, Phelps and Eagle River. Poker run ends March 5th with drawing at Twin Lake Pub. Check out conoversnobuddies.com for more info.

Snowmobile Information:

Please stay on trails. We are starting to have some off trail riding on private property and on the xc-ski trail. We ask you respect the land owners and the other clubs trails.

Also noticed several corners where sleds have lost control in an icy corner and have left the trail. Please ride safe and enjoy the scenery. 

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – February 20, 2022

Area Report:

The updated forecast is calling for 9-12″ of new snow between tomorrow and Wednesday!  This would normally be great news, but we currently have one of our tractors broke down (axle issues) on Trail 7 between TIN markers 217 and 218.  It could be a few days before we can get it out, so please be extra cautious in this area.   

We will be doing our best to keep the Barnstormers system groomed with just one machine.  You can expect that some of our trails are not going to get groomed every night.

LOGGING UPDATE:  We’ve been informed that logging operations have started on portions of our trail 11.  They’ll be logging from Nebish Lake Road to Starrett Lake to Mystery Lake.  IMPORTANT:  Loggers have the right of way.  They have the authority to close our trail, so please be respectful; don’t get in their way and don’t give them reason to shut us down!

WARM UP & HEAVY TRAFFICE

February 20, 2022 – 8:25am 21 – High 38 – Low tonight 7

Big warm up today with a low of 7 tonight.  Trails are going to really soften up.  Will be breakdown of trails especially in the open areas where the evil sun does it’s damage.  POTENTIAL FOR SNOW STORM  Monday – High of 15 & Low of 6 PLUS potential of 3 inches of SNOW.  PLUS the same for Tuesday with High of 11 & Low of 0 PLUS 5 inches of SNOW! You better be DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!

North of Eagle River

  • Trail 10/13 from groomer barn to the connect with the Conover trails

East & South

  • Trail 10E main trail to Three Lakes connect. Chanticleer Inn trail to the Eagle Lake entrance, Grampa Grahm (1) & 9 mile trail NOT GROOMED

The trails have high traffic.  If riding today today be aware of the icy sections in corners & straight aways’.  Tons of traffic so Slow Down, Ride Right & Watch for Oncoming Sleds

Catfish & Eagle lake trails marked & OPEN. Stay by the orange reflective barrels.  DO NOT think the entire lake is safe.  Several sleds have gone in the water this season far from the barrels.

News and Reports:

15 riders on 14 sleds left Monday morning at 9:30am from the Ice Castle in Eagle River on the yearly weekday away. This year is a 5 day trip.

We headed west on Trail 70 to 17S to 7 aka Paint Ball Field making our way west heading to Park Falls. Stopped for lunch at the Bear Bar at the entrance to the Lake Tom SnoFleas trails near Lac du Flambeau. Headed from there to Minocqua & west. Arriving in Park Falls at the Northern Lights Motel for the night. Rode a little over 100 miles. Trails were Fair to Good to Very Good. Especially in Price county. That evening the Price county Snowmobile Association was having their monthly meeting at the Northern Lights Motel. Got to talk to many of the drivers.

Tuesday we headed north to Washburn the town in Bayfield. A bit of a struggle as there were many detours & re routes in Ashland county. But we arrived safe & sound in the late afternoon at the Washburn Inn overlooking the Big Lake! Along with a great big appetite. Another day of about 100 miles. Mostly Good trails with some Fair & a bit of road running.

Wednesday we headed from Washburn toward Bayfield. When Tom & I had sled issues we turned around & headed back to Vallhalla Bar & Grill to wait for the utility truck & trailer to pick up Tom’s sled. Rode back on my sled double back to the motel in Washburn. Rest the group headed north to Bayfield putting on about 80 miles. Good trails P.S. Vallhalla Bar & Grill has terrific pizza. The same evening went back with the group for dinner. Food was fantastic!

Thursday morning we left Washburn heading back to Park Falls & a return visit to the Northern Lights Motel. Took a slightly different route back. To avoid the re routes & detours. We rode double back for most of the trip. Switched out the last leg of the ride with a rider. Riding her sled. She rode double with Tom. Little under 100 miles with Good trails.

On Friday, left Park Falls for Eagle River. Price county doing a fantastic job. Trails were Very Good to Excellent all the way through Price county. Heading west into Oneida county. Then Vilas. Stopped for lunch at Musky Bill’s. Very crowded. Then east toward home. All conditions of trails & as we got closer to Minocqua heavy, heavy traffic. Many sections of SNOW fall as we rode. Later in the day winds picked up. Just west of Eagle River winds caused white out conditions & some tough riding. Crossing the great swamp just west of Sportsman’s Chalet 4 of us lost sight of the trail location & ended up getting stuck in deep snow. Rest of the group made it to the Sportsman’s. Then the iron men of the group came back to dig us out & get us back on trails. Eventful day. Over 100 again on Friday.

Home safe & sound after an adventurous ride with the last of the buried sleds home safe & sound after dig out on Saturday.

Area Report:

We’ve gotten a bit of fresh snow and it’s helped a little.  Trails are still in really good condition except in super heavy traffic areas.  Forecast is calling for 4-8″ of new snow early next week, so keep your fingers crossed!

This is Presidents weekend and the busiest of the season.  Please understand that the traffic will be very heavy.  Ride accordingly and be respectful of other riders.  Also be patient with the restaurants and bars.  They’re doing their best to take care of this many people.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS NOT GROOMED OVERNIGHT DUE HIGH WINDS
EXPECT VARYING CONDITIONS

February 19, 2022 – 7:29am 3 below – High 14 – Low tonight 8

Friday brought about 3 inches news SNOW.  Along with it came very high winds & wind gusts.  45 mph plus.  Riding yesterday afternoon into last night was very dangerous.  The high winds caused complete whiteouts on the trails.

Pop up of temps on Sunday.  Could be 40.  Then on Monday high of 16 and SNOW followed by SNOW on Tuesday with a high of 10. 1-3 inches of SNOW on Monday. 3-5 inches of SNOW on Tuesday. 

Due to the high winds last night no grooming was done on the Eagle River Trails. With that said the trails have high traffic & are in need of grooming.  If riding today today be aware of the icy sections in corners & straight a ways.  Many trails are rough & have moguls.  Slow down & be safe.

Returned from a sledding trip on snowmobile to Park Falls.  Then on to Washburn for 2 days of riding.  Back to Park Falls.  Then home yesterday.  Somewhere between 400 & 500 miles.  For the most part trails were great.  Few areas of poor signing.

Area Report:

Douglas County received approximately 2-6 inches of, much needed, snow across the county last week.  Trail conditions range from fair to excellent.   As Grooming reports come in the Trail Conditions will be updated.

Douglas County Forestry does not maintain any trails across lakes.  If you would like information of specific trails please contact the Snowmobile club in that area.

It is critical that we respect the landowners who allow us to utilize their property. Please Stay On The Trails.

Please share this info with anyone that you believe would be interested…our goal is to inform as many trail riders as possible.

Trail Report – : Price County – Park Falls, Phillips & Prentice, Wisconsin – February 18, 2022

Area Report:

The trails in the Fifield/Pike Lake area are all open and groomed and generally in very good to excellent condition   As is always the case, the heavily used trails like 101 east of Pike Lake is still thin, but we groom it regularly so it smooth.  The 4-5” of snow we got last Friday did wonders in covering up a few rocks coming through and allowing us to smooth out the bumps  Happy Trails!

The 6” of new snow we received on 2/11 has added to the base and trails around the Solberg Lk area are now in Very Good to Excellent condition. There is logging on trail 102 between Old 13 Road and Trail 121 going North to Hicks Landing Rd. That portion has been bulldozed to allow the logging trucks to haul, so you may want to avoid that area for the time being. If you are going North, Go to Solberg Lake, then head North to trail 112 at Solberg Park.
