Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12″

Date of Report: December 22, 2022

Snowmobile Information:

Vilas County Trails will open at 8:00 Friday. Northern Hornshoe trails are looking good for the opener. No reports on lakes. I would advise caution until we get get boots on the ground reports. My intel sources say the ice recovery people have been busy so far. We ended up with 10″ of snow on marginal ice, then it got cold. I will not be on deck to give a live patrol report until after Santa brings our snow. I will also be grooming. Also keep in mind heavy puffy snow is forecasted, and a lot of wind. That means drifts, and possible tree damage. I see a lot of “How are the trails?”, or “Can I drive on the lakes?” on the Vilas page. A lot of people respond, ” Join a club, and find out.” For a small investment, you get connected to a lot. AWSC, KAOS, Miss Snowflake. I missed a lot over the years as do a lot of people. It takes a LOT to make this sport work, and its a blast being a part of it. Ride Safe. Mark
