Trail Report – : Rhinelander, Wisconsin – January 5, 2023

Reporter:Hodag SnoTrails

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: Hard base with snow covering

Date of Report: January 5, 2023

Area Report:

Trails are open and almost all waterways are marked.  We didn’t get the snow that was forecasted, but groomer drivers report positive feedback on the trails.  There is a good solid base due to the recent weather conditions.  In most areas, the trails are overall good.  Due to overall lack of significant snow base, all holes, bumps, rocks, roots, etc can’t be covered or filled in at this point.

There are spots of icy corners, and some thin areas.  Overall, we will be rating them as fair due all conditions.

Stay close to the barrels on the lakes.  Most of the slushy areas have frozen up, but there could be rough areas from the previous slush points.  Most of the lakes are marked.  Consider them unsafe if not marked.

Conditions don’t look to change without more snow.

Boulder Junction Snowmobile Club Trail Report – Friday, 1/4/2023

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 21 degrees out and snowing lightly

We groomed 15N and 6E last night and 2W, 8W, and 51 early this morning.

With the new snow and reduced traffic, our trails are in good condition.

We are supposed to get some additional snow today and tomorrow along with cooler temps. This will help maintain our trails and provide some good mid-week riding.

If you are in our area this week, enjoy our trails and stop in and support our local businesses.

Look for an updated report on Friday, 1/06/23.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-12”

Date of Report: January 4, 2023

Area Report:

Wow, what a difference a little snow makes. I groomed the west side trails last night and they turned out awesome. There was a few spots where I can see there is no base, but it all panned in. It was a wet snow, and today is a bit warmer, so it is now a little rain/freezing drizzle. Once it turns back to snow and trails can be panned again, this should reset the base. Temps are supposed to drop after snow event, and that will help freeze it up.

We will be watching for more snow, west coast keeps getting slammed with storms. Hopefully that will bring some more snow. Keep Dancing!

News and Reports:

The Cemetery Trail is open.

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.

Snowmobile Information:

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – January 4, 2023

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 9-10 Inches

Date of Report: January 4, 2023

Area Report:

While trails are open, we urge riders to RIDE WITH CAUTION.  Several of the larger lakes are not yet staked and we do not have an ETA yet on when this will take place.  Among notable lakes NOT staked are LCO, Grindstone, Whitefish, and Round Lake.

  • Many main artery trails have been cleared and/or groomed. It was too warm today to put groomers out so many will run during the evenings over the weekend.
  • While many trails are cleared not all trails have been cleared or groomed. There will be side trails that have not been touched yet as we are still very early with this opening.
  • There will be trails that are cleared but not groomed yet, please ride with caution as there can still be equipment out there working as well ruts created from the heavy equipment needed to cut and clear.
  • Lakes reported to be staked are The Chippewa Flowage, Lost Land Lake, Barker Lake, Nelson Lake, Tiger Cat Flowage, Callahan Lake, Mud Lake, and Spider Lake.  We will update lake staking so PLEASE watch for that and DO NOT ride lakes not staked.
  • As always, stay on the marked trails on the lakes, do not venture away and be courteous of fisherman. Also, know the lakes are rough, so ride slowly and with caution.

So, to recap, while trails are open you are riding at your own risk, and we ask you do so with caution. We also ask that if you see any down branches or debris that you throw it off rather than running it over allowing it to free into the base and become a hazard for riders and groomers.

Thank you for patience and please ride safely, this will not be the most ideal riding of the season, but it is a start.

Mid to high 20’s during the day.

New SNOW improved the trails a ton.  Riders were out during the SNOW & last night.   With the temps falling starting tomorrow trail should move back up to Good.  There will be icy conditions with the SNOW & Ice mix today.

NOTE – DEERVIEW LANE SECTION OF TRAIL 1N THAT HEADS TO EAGLE LAKE STILL HAS HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked.   Take it slow.  Hard ice & surface slush pockets still present, particularly on the turn that takes you off the lake to Townline Rd. Stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.

Some reminders when you ride. Have a Map or Phone App. Please no off trail riding & stop at driveways.  Also as you ride you might meet a groomer.   They are big & can’t pull over for us.  So pull over & let the driver direct you.  And oh ya give ’em a thumbs up.  They groom so we can ride!!!

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!

See ya on the trails real soon!!

Area Report:

At 8:00 a.m. it’s 27 degrees out and cloudy.

With heavy holiday traffic our trails took a beating but have held up.

We groomed 2W, 8W, and 51 last night and 8E, 11, and 15S early this morning.

Our groomer drivers are reporting rough trails when they start their shift and smooth them out as best as they can.

We are seeing milder temps for this time of year, but with 3”-5” of snow predicted for tomorrow followed by colder temps, our trails should improve by mid-week.

If you are in our area this week, enjoy our trails and stop in and support our local businesses.

Look for an updated report on Wednesday, 1/04/23.
