All the trails throughout Washburn County are in excellent condition. Clubs & county staff are reporting a few soft spots due to the warmer weather over the weekend. All of the trails have been groomed at least once since last week. Please continue to ride with caution as there may be limbs/branches along the trails. If there is a major hazard such as large tree branches, in the trail please report that to Washburn County Forestry at 715-635-4490. Remember to stay on designated trail surfaces and be aware of current grooming activity on the trails.

Trail Conditions: Early Season

Snow Cover: 5-12

Date of Report: January 17, 2023

Area Report:

Trail conditions haven’t changed much over the past  around here.  We have a great base.. but are in need of more new snow.  Trails are covered with minimal snow cover… we had sleds here over the weekend… and they all said some of the trails were good.. some were bumpy and some ice in the corners… but all are rideable. Hopefully the forecast is right this week… as there is snow in the forecast for Tuesday night… more coming in on Wednesday night into Thursday.  Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted on the trail conditions as they change.

Happy Trails!

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
All conditions
Sleet this AM

Best Riding is still North & East.  There could be deterioration with the sleet most of the day followed by SNOW after dark.  No totals available. No Evil Sun. The work done in December did pay off.   The ice base is still holding on most of the trails.  Still SNOW cover especially North & East. Trail 10/13 heading out of Eagle River is a good ride.  Snirt through town. After crossing the Wisconsin River Bridge trail section the 2 trails split.   Trail 13 heading aka the Bauers is a good choice.  Trail 17N that splits off of Trail 10/13 & head north on the east side of Hwy 45N is another choice.  A bit thin in a short section with snirt just before the Trail 3N aka Manske Swamp.  What the trails do need is fresh new SNOW.

As for east it Trail 10E.  Heading south to split of 10E & Trail Alt 13S.  10E & heading to  Three Lakes OR Alt 13S to Three Lakes. As of late last night SNOW covered.   Sleet may change conditions.

As for west areas of snirt near town & near the connect with St. Germain.

According to the Groomer Tracking System App nearly full grooming.  Only trails not groomed overnight into this morning are 10W & 7 headed toward Sayner & the Uncle Kent trail that comes out at Hwy G north & west of Eagle River.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked & still safe.  Expect very slippery riding & some surface slush from melted SNOW.  Always stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.

Last, off trail riding is a big problem.   PLEASE STAY ON THE TRAIL.

Keep DOIN’ THE SNOW DANCE!!  THINK COLD!

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 15, 2023

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-10”

Date of Report: January 15, 2023

Area Report:

Grooming continues. The Cemetery trail was done Saturday night and is holding. There was a lot of traffic on Saturday and a great turnout for the Trailside Brat fry. We are going out again tonight. I’ll be working on the west side of town. I’ll do another report Monday morning.
Everyone was saying the trails are in good shape considering we haven’t seen any fresh snow lately. That pattern is going to change. Some models are saying we should get some measurable snow, others say it is going south of us. We will see, but cold temps are suppose to come in.

News and Reports:

We have a spot that sleds are riding off trail. This is on Trail 3 where sleds are going past a barrier and caution tape to ride on the ATV trail. We don’t have permissions for snowmobiling on this private land. Please stay on the trail.

If you find a condition that you need to report to the Conover Sno-Buddies like a down tree, water on the trail, etc, either message us on Facebook, use the contact page on our website, or even notify a local establishment. They know how to get a hold of us to fix the issue.

  • A reminder to ride between the orange blazers. Along Hwy K West, there were several 100 trees removed this summer to place new electric poles. Most of the stumps are still there. If you were to hit one, it could ruin your trip quickly. Ride Right ➡️ Ride Safe.
  • To see where the Groomer is at, check out  Groomer Tracker  Half the cost of the app comes back to Conover Sno-Buddies to support grooming operations.

Snowmobile Information:

As I had indicated on Thursday, lack of moisture and warmer temps, compiled with heavy traffic, put us in a position that we put the groomer on standdown Saturday. We still have plenty of snow, but it’s gone sugary on us, and Keith is afraid, putting the groomer on it would only do more damage than good. All of our trails are pretty bumpity. It was an amazing weekend, great riding, with heavy traffic, but amazing riding. Starting at 4 AM tomorrow, it looks like we are going to get freezing rain and ice. John D is still pretty confident we should have some sort of major snow operation Wednesday/Thursday. None of the weather operations are predicting that, so we’ll see what firms up in the next couple of days. Thank you.Mark

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 12″-16″

Date of Report: January 15, 2023

Area Report:

The trails have been holding together surprisingly well despite the heavy traffic and warmer than average temperatures we’ve been seeing. A lot of the corners are becoming ice so use caution. Most of the swamps we are finally able to groom through and seem to be solid. The lakes seem like they have been doing okay for now as well. With the heavier than normal traffic and the warmer temperatures i would expect the trails to deteriorate through out each day. We’ll be out doing the best we can to get them back in shape by morning. Thanks and be safe.

Reporter:Stretch

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Between 2″ – 4″ base

Date of Report: January 15, 2023

Area Report:

It’s been a rough year to give trail reports. We’ve got snow in the Keweenaw, but it’s like late season conditions. All road crossings and towns are getting snirty or no snow at all. However once you get out of town there’s still plenty to ride on. There is snow in the forecast on Tuesday/ Wednesday which is must needed so that might help.

Ride with cation because we still have open water in places and in spots they are reopening from all the warm weather we’ve been getting.

County Report

Trails will close on Sunday January 15 at 9:00 AM due to the expected warming temperatures. Please ride with caution as trails are early season conditions. Riders should also avoid lake ice which remains very inconsistent. Also remember to respect our generous landowners and stay on the marked trail! Please check to see if trails are open in connecting Counties.

Personal Report:

Out riding this afternoon and evening and trails are good to excellent.  It’s too bad the warm temperature are coming, however once it cools down again, the trails will be good to excellent.
