Trail Report – : Spooner and Washburn County, Wisconsin – January 23, 2023

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Open

Snow Cover: 10+

Date of Report: January 23, 2023

Area Report:

There has been a recent dusting of snow across the county. Area Clubs & County Staff are continuing to maintain a close eye on trails and their conditions. All of the clubs are reporting the trails to be in great condition for riding. There are some areas and sections of trails getting soft with the recent rain and warmer temps at the beginning of the week. Cooler temps & more snow is in the forecast so the trail base should harden back up and create great riding for the remainder of the season. Please remember to ride with caution and stay on designated trail surfaces. Clubs are out grooming and maintaining the trails on a regular basis so please use caution when you encounter grooming equipment

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – January 23, 2023

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 4-8”

Date of Report: January 23, 2023

Snowmobile Information:

Gadzooks there were a lot of snowmobiles this weekend. Hornshoe, trails are in overall good condition. Groomer Mike reported there are some icy spots in the Raven lake area, and due to the strange sleet we had yesterday morning, didn’t all fill in but overall there’s plenty of snow. The trail along Highway F is in amazing shape. 17, the grade, is in good condition from Woodruff all the way up to H. There is still snow all the way up to where Mercer takes over just on the edge of the Powell marsh, but there is gravel showing in spots between the bridge and the Mercer line, and it’s thin around the bridge out in the middle of the marsh. Trail 5 into the casino is good. As of this morning, everything is groomed, and it is currently 12°. Hopefully it sets up well, but the areas that are prone to potholes tend to open up with heavy traffic. Some new snow would be nice, the heavy traffic tends to make the snow a little sugary. The MS riders will be staying at the casino this weekend starting Thursday. There are hundreds of riders that take donations for MS in order to ride. Northern Hornshoe club is cooking up food and activities for them this coming Friday. Anyone interested in volunteering to help can show up at our groomer shed on Friday morning at 8 AM. The groomer shed is located at the Lac du Flambeau transfer station on Highway H. Should be another busy weekend for the trail system. Ride, safe, respect and appreciate our landowners, and thank our sponsors. Mark

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Very Good

Heavy traffic all weekend. Trails in Very Good shape.  Temps were in the mid 20’s during the day & teens at night all weekend.  This will continue Friday with SNOW on Friday.  Saturday the temps are forecast to drop to single digits during the day & below zero at night for the next 2 weeks.  There was a schiff of SNOW later last night. Plenty of SNOW on the trails but a SNOW DANCE to bring some fresh SNOW would be great.  The young man on the left rode along with the driver over the weekend.   Future of grooming in Eagle River!

Did not ride this weekend as we were volunteering at the Derby Track for the races.   Plan to get out today or tomorrow.  Riders I spoke to said trails in great shape.  Did soften up a bit with all the traffic.  No problems to report.

Full grooming ALL weekend.  Saw groomer out on Trail 10E & in town when heading home last night from the Derby Track.

Do know Eagle & Catfish Lake trails still have drifts off the marked trail so please stay by the orange reflective barrels.  Remember not all lakes are safe.

NOTE: Off of Trail 70W after entering St. Germain is a trail locals call “The Goat” trail.  It is a Club Trail that starts at TIN 287 to TIN 288 that is CLOSED.  It is clearly marked as CLOSED with fencing & signs.  Please do not ride through this area from either direction. DO NOT RIDE ON HWY 70 as this is not legal.   Right click on the photo to open a larger version.

On snowmobile designated road routes need to follow the speed limit set for the road for all vehicles.

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 18″-22″

Date of Report: January 22, 2023

Area Report:

Trails have been holding together fairly well considering the warmer temperatures and higher than normal traffic we’ve been seeing. A couple corners have become icy so use caution when entering a corner. With some cooler temperatures heading our way at night this upcoming week I would expect them to improve and stay together much better than they did last week.

EAGLE RIVER TRAILS
Very Good to Excellent

Eagle River Trails groomed by the Sno-Eagles are in fantastic shape.  There has been heavy traffic all weekend.  Groomers have been out every night into early morning.  Many times there are riders coming through right after the groomers so some trails do not have time to set up. Picture on left taken last night.

No problem areas to report this morning. Reports of small section of mushy SNOW on the west side of the Wisconsin River Bridge section of Trail10W/13N. Grooming will take care of that by filling with SNOW & packing. Same rider told me Manske Swamp,Trail 3N is tight with no mush.  Rest of the trails are in great shape.  Heavy traffic.  Be aware.  RIDE RIGHT.

Still road crews continue to clearing roads & driveways so watch for snowbanks at crossings.  The high banks might make it hard to see so be sure to stop at the crossings.

Eagle & Catfish Lake trails are open & marked & still safe.  Ton of SNOW cover. Expect drifting. Slow down. Always stay by the orange reflective barrels to be safe.
