Temps continue to bounce up & down.  Not looking good. Haven’t seen a sledding season like this in a long time.  Last I remember was in the mid-80’s. Actually much of the 80’s were up & down. With low SNOW in the early 90’s.  Then we got clobbered with SNOW in ’95. Spoke to a man who remembers in 1973 there was little or no SNOW.  He remembered as it was the year he moved up to Eagle River.

Area Report:

Vilas County Snowmobile trails remain closed at this time.

Wish there was better news, it has been cold last few days, but temps are rising. We hit high 30s during the daytime hours. Forecast is for upper 40s later this week. And there is no snow in the future. This has been one of the top 3 lowest snow falls on record.

We continue to have weekly meetings at our local establishments to help support them during this time. Check out the Conover Sno-Buddies Facebook page for weekly stops. This week is Dublin, Club 45, Bauer’s Dam, and Twin Lake Pub.

Our Poker Run has 2 weeks to go, so make sure you get your cards filled and turned into Twin Lake Pub for your chance to win.

Landover ATV Club continues to do weekend rides and Dublin Sports Bar is doing another weekend Poker Run. Stop by to get a card. All funds from the Dublin poker run go back to the winners.

Trail Conditions: Closed

Snow Cover: 1-3″ More or less

Date of Report: February 15, 2024

Area Report:

Not a lot going on in the Hornshoe territory. We still have a donation link for our Kubota groomer at www.hornshoe.org. People are donating, and we are appreciating.

News and Reports:

There is a lot of activity in the Northwoods this weekend. I belong to some cool groups on Facebook. One is Vilas County Community. A lot of good information about what activities are going on, places to go, people to meet. Vilas Counties website also has a lot of cool links. I like the fact that you get posts from groups, and clubs, that keep you up to date of upcoming activities. I see quite a few people asking what they can come up, and do, without snow to terrorize.

Snowmobile Information:

I would say we received about 3″ of snow last night. Enough to blow some snowshine up your trail, but not anything to unleash the hounds, or mobilize the John Deere. Several clubs have fun stuff going on. Cruisers and Forest Riders are doing a tag team event at Lakeland Power Sports Saturday. Lakeland also has some great deals on gear. Frosty Club is on the ice at Bendts Camp. Manitowish Waters Sno-Skeeters has an event at their clubhouse behind the Chamber of Commerce at the airport. White Thunder Riders has their auction at 4:00 at their clubhouse. I always say riders should belong to a club and also be aware of whose trails you ride on. These fund raisers pay for equipment to keep the trails going.

Groups worth mentioning:  K.A.O.S. ( Kids and adults on sleds) Amazing youth group many riders do not know about. Then there is the NextGen Riders – new group that targets young adults on sleds that are too old for KAOS, but too young to hang with the W.H.O.W (WOW, for short) group. (White Haired Old Weasels). I do not see anything on the internet for WOW. They have trouble remembering what day of the week it is, let alone how to operate any newfangled internet contraptions.

Have fun

Mark

Trail Report – : Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin – February 13, 2024

Reporter:Toulish1

Trail Conditions: No Snow

Snow Cover: 0.00″ to 0.00″

Date of Report: February 13, 2024

Area Report:

Not a lot going on in the area. My wife had some blinds installed yesterday, and the installer spotted a wolf on her way in. She asked me if we have many animals around, and I told her wolves, coyotes, bobcat, fox, and a huge fisher. I am getting to be a regular Marlin Perkins this winter. Oh yeah – squirrels, lots of squirrels.

News and Reports:

I am currently tracking a major snow event that looks to give New York City the most snow they have had in two years. 3-5″ of snow, and they could be paralyzed! Winter storm Lorraine could dump 5-8″ in Cape Cod, and it’s turning into a real Nor’easter eh. I was hoping the weather channel would interview one of the locals that sound like they are from Scotland. People tell me I have a heavy midwestern accent, but at least I don’t speak in cursive – hah!

Snowmobile Information:

Now to the good part. Trails are currently closed, and when your reporter has to watch videos of snow from out east, that is a good indication of the status of our local weather, and/or his overall mental stability.

LOTS of local snowmobile fundraisers going on this weekend, the 17th and 18th. We have a group of 25 coming to stay with us, and on Saturday, we are going on a fundraiser roadtrip. We are starting in Woodruff, then Boulder, Presque Isle, Manitowish Waters, then finish up with a little White Thunder. I see quite a few groups doing the same, and taking their trips anyway. Clubs appreciate it, businesses appreciate it, and it helps the Northwoods.
