Date of Report: January 11, 2026
Area Report:

First, with the larger groomer down and off to repair, the Northern Hornshoe Trails club extends a huge thank you to James, a groomer from Mercer Area Snogoers who spent 16 hours overnight on Saturday/Sunday to groom Trail 17. Wow, just wow. This is what the snowmobile community is all about!

With the recent warm up & rain Thursday all of our trails have held up well & didn’t lose a lot of base though we got almost none of the 1-3″ predicted snow over this weekend. The roads have lost the snow pack & ice in most places. Slushy lakes have smoothed out & froze down. Advise staying near the markers & not wonder off or you may find yourself in pockets of slush.

Fence lake is still not marked & wont be until we get more cold temps. Be cautious out there. Remember to stay right & 55 at night.

Trail Report – : Conover, Wisconsin – January 11, 2026

Reporter:snobuddies

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 8-10”

Date of Report: January 11, 2026

Area Report:

We groomed most of our trails last night. Judging by the moguls, there was a lot of traffic on the trails Saturday. But traffic was little to none after 8pm which helped us to groom it out and allow the trails to freeze in.

Keep in mind that there might be low hanging branches on the trail. We have cleared quite a few, and other clubs are reporting the same.

Thank you to all that stopped by at the Trailside Roast on Saturday. It was a great day!

Watch out for the large ice heave on North Twin Lake. It is marked with signs, barrels, and green flashing beacons. Please slow down and cross next to the barrels.

Trail Report – : Sayner, Wisconsin – January 10, 2026

Reporter:SaynerStar Lake Barnstormers

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: Varies

Date of Report: January 10, 2026

Area Report:

The weather was interesting this past week.  There were three days of above zero temps and combinations of rain, sleet, and snow.  Fortunately, our trails held up better than anticipated.  We ended up with only an inch of new snow in Sayner, with up to 4″ just a bit to our east.

We will continue to groom nightly for the foreseeable future, unless weather dictates otherwise.

There does not appear to be any significant snow, other than an inch here & there, for the next week.  There are many big events in the next few weeks, which will mean heavy traffic.  Of course, we will do our best to keep the trails as smooth as possible.  Additional snow would sure be helpful!

Remember, if you aren’t able to keep your sled on your side of the trail, you’re going too fast and putting the safety of others at risk!  You can drive too slow many times, but you may only drive too fast once!  SAFETY TRUMPS EGO!

Ride RIght & Ride Safe!

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Barnstormer events:

Saturday, January 17 – Breakfast at Stillwaters from 8:00 – 11:00.

Saturday, February 7 – Chili dump at The Murm from 2:00 – 5:00.

Reporter:Washburn County

Trail Conditions: Fair

Snow Cover: 6 – 8″ Base

Date of Report: January 9, 2026

Area Report:

All Washburn County snowmobile trails are officially open for the season. Even with recent warmer temps and minimal rainfall, the trails remain in fair to good condition across the county. The snow base varies from 6 to 8 inches. If you encounter any trail issues such as downed trees, limbs, or debris, please report them to Washburn County Forestry at 715-635-4490.

Please be advised that on 1/1/2026 there was an incident on Long Lake, off of the boat landing on Blackhawk Road. The ice conditions at this time are very poor and a snowmobile broke through the ice at this location while out riding. At this time no trail route is marked out on Long Lake. The County does not have jurisdiction on Long Lake and is not responsible for marking out a trail across the lake, even though certain sections of Washburn County Snowmobile trails lead to accessing Long Lake, Washburn County Forestry does not maintain anything past the high ground point. Please use caution if you are out on any lake as they are not yet 100% safe.

Remember that grooming and maintenance activities continue throughout the season. Use caution while riding, watch for trail equipment, and enjoy the trails responsibly.

Trail Report – : Hayward / Sawyer County, Wisconsin – January 9, 2026

Reporter:haywardlakes

Trail Conditions: Good

Snow Cover: 6-8

Date of Report: January 9, 2026

Area Report:

This week we had some warmer temps and some rain last night. The good news is that most grooming will resume over the weekend now that temperatures will drop again. We had a great start to the season with quality snow, so we have a good base to work with despite the warmer conditions. While the trails got soft this week and did take a bit of a hit, the overall reports from riders are the trails are still good especially to the north. Trails in the woods have been most protected and the groomers deciding to stay off until it freezes was helpful. The county and town roads have had maintenance this week after the holiday so they have scraped them down so if you are on a section of road to get from point A to point B do stay far to the right and try to catch some of that snow on the edge. Trails that run parallel with highways are also mostly still snow covered but dirty with the road clean up and some berms to the side from the plow spray, groomers will clean that up as they go out. Groomers will also pull that side snow in and fill where they can. Lakes are fairly smooth but have some of that crunchy surfaces, so ride carefully not to hit a hard drift. If you are doing a lot of lake riding, especially without scratchers be sure to find loose snow to keep your machine cool.

Trails in the south east of the county are more exposed and took the weather a bit harder so those groomers will hold off until we get more snow.

There is some snow in the forecast for Saturday, it’s always hard to predict with varying reports, some say an inch at best and some say up to 4”, so yet to be seen, keep up those snow dances!

To summarize, riders are reporting the trails held up good, specifically in the woods and to the north. Most groomers in the county will be back out tonight and tomorrow. Lakes are good but expect icy conditions. So if you’re wondering if you should ride the riders we have talked to, report that they are happy with the conditions but of course, it is a decision for each individual rider.
