Wisconsin River Bridge crossing on map it is 10W/13N
Trig’s Shell section of the City trail to Bloom Rd

Catfish & Eagle Lake trails are marked. Conditions on both lakes may produce surface slush with temps up & sun out. Remember not all lakes are safe. Look for markers and/or signing. If you don’t see any the lake is not safe. P.S. There is a 55mph nighttime speed limit.

Eagle River has long held the distinction of SNOWMOBILE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, and it’s a matter of pride that causes local clubs and businesses to work so diligently to maintain that title. Snowmobile fever becomes a way of life in our Eagle River winters, and the talk often turns to “picks”, “carbides” and performance. In fact, these snow machines seem to outnumber cars during the winter months.
Over 500 MILES OF GROOMED TRAILS connect the communities of the area, including access to major county and state routes. Trails wind throughout the area’s scenic forests, but frequently pass close to service businesses which can provide you with fuel and sustenance, shelter and refreshment. If you don’t have your own snowmobile, several dealerships will be happy to provide you with equipment during your visit.
Trails will close on Sunday January 15 at 9:00 AM due to the expected warming temperatures. Please ride with caution as trails are early season conditions. Riders should also avoid lake ice which remains very inconsistent. Also remember to respect our generous landowners and stay on the marked trail! Please check to see if trails are open in connecting Counties.
Personal Report:
Out riding this afternoon and evening and trails are good to excellent. It’s too bad the warm temperature are coming, however once it cools down again, the trails will be good to excellent.

Snowmobiling Information
Stoughton is one of the well-known snowmobile trails of southern Wisconsin. A charming city located within Dane County is one of the favored trails for Midwesterners. With an average of 41 inches of snow every year, Stoughton has proved to be a favorable place for snowmobilers to enjoy their sport. Amongst its trails, Stoughton is known for its trail systems named as The Yahara River Trail, skirting the Yahara River and the Virgin Lake Trail which connects the Virgin Lake Park to the Jackson Street.
There was a time when these trails were marked out only with the help of painted tin coffee cans being stuck out on the top of sticks without any safety requirements or licenses. However, thanks to Roger Nietzsche and other founding members of Stoughton Viking Snow drifters Snowmobile Club who took up the mantle of maintaining and promoting the trails.
Stoughton has had a variery of local clubs formed by the local families since 1969 these are some of the oldest in South-west Wisconsin. They maintain the trails every year.
While the safety is observed at all the levels, you do need to have a valid safety license in order to snowmobile through the trails. Oregon, Utica, Waubesa and Rock County are some of the places that are connected to Stoughton through these public trails.
The local clubs maintain the 38 miles of public trails that connect snowmobilers from Oregon, Utica, Waubesa and Rock County. Stoughton is a haven for snow sports and adventure lovers. So hurry up and plan your winter fun with Stoughton this year!
